CHAPTER 40
Ruby flinched for a moment and she cleared her throat before looking at her again.
“I know that you don’t like me but that doesn’t bother me at all because no matter what we are one family like you said. But sister let me clear with you; whoever I date or sleep with is none of your concern. I will not stop seeing Harvey for any other reason. I love him and I will never stop loving him, you can never stop this,” Ruby answered her back and she could hear her honesty in every single word.
“I will make sure that dad hears about this. Will you be satisfied if dad disowned Harvey and you? Will you come back to your senses if he divorces your mother just because you were too stubborn and selfish not to let go?”
“Nothing like that will ever happen. We may not like each other but sister you are stuck with this. For your own information, dad already knows about the issue and he isn’t affected by it. So, make your peace and stop acting like you care. You have never cared from day one,” Ruby said those remarks and she found her heart aching.
“How dare you utter such nonsense?”
“It’s not, sister. If you have shown such concern back then when we were young, back then when Harvey needed your love the most then maybe we wouldn’t be in this kind of situation.
But because you are a selfish prick, you abandoned that poor kid and I have to pick him up and nurse him back. You should have been there for him but you abandoned him. So, don’t try to act like the victim here.
Everything that is happening to you right now is because of what you did in the past. Go back to you house and repent. Don’t try to make everything look normal when it isn’t. I love Harvey and he loves me; I just want you to know that.
If you are done with what you came to say then please leave my room. I have exams to write and I wouldn’t want to slack off just because of you. You have a department to run,” Ruby attacked her.
She wanted to strangle her right then but now wasn’t the time.
“Don’t think this is over. I will still talk to dad and Harry and see where you will run to,” Helen said and left Ruby’s room.
She was very furious that she didn’t talk to anyone as she left the house. She got into her car and drove off immediately. She wasn’t going to let this one slide; she was going to make sure that Ruby pays for the words she just told her right now.

She stretched her arms as she finished writing the last statement of her essay. Her final exam was done and now she was free of all the stress the exam brought during this couple of weeks. She closed her papers and took them in front where she put them on the stack of other papers.
She left the exam hall filled with joy. It was bad to brag but she could feel it that she had aced the exam. The results were going to come later but for now all she had to do was rest and start planning about the vacation.
She returned to her office and sat down in her chair. She looked at the photos on her desk and smiled. There were quite a lot; a family photo, one with her and her mother, another one with her friends and the last one she was with Harvey. These people brought joy in her life and made it possible for her to keep on wanting to live.
She touched her couple bracelet and she sighed. She remembered the day Helen came home to threaten her. She won that battle even if she told her some rude things. She just couldn’t help it. Even if Helen hated her, she shouldn’t have abandoned her own flesh and blood.
Both mother and father had agreed for her and Harvey to date so there wasn’t much to worry about even if they had to be more cautions now. It would not be good to just behave the way they did when the elders didn’t know.
She checked her calendar and noticed that there wasn’t much for her now that the exams were done and the semester was coming to an end. She was going to take an early break and leave the rest to her Vices.
There was a knock on her door before the door was opened. She smiled as she saw the person who was coming through.
“Finally, you are done. I was waiting for you,” Harvey said as he gets inside.
“Is this what you call waiting? You weren’t here when I finished.”
“I know right. Sorry about that, I had to run an errand but now I am here,” he said as he gets behind her.
“That better be true,” she said.
“I will never lie to you Ruby. So, are you hungry?” he asked her as he massaged her shoulders.
“I’m starving,” she replied.
“That’s good; I will take you to that restaurant. I heard that there is a new chef,” he said.
“Okay, if you are buying then I will go,” she said.
“I am, let’s go now before your friends come,” he said.
“You don’t want to see them?”
“I want to but not just now. I want to have some alone time with you. Just see it as a school date.”
“I love the sound of that,” she said as she stood up.
She took her cell phone and looked at Harvey.
“Let’s go.”
