CHAPTER 51
“Ruby, your friends are here,” her secretary said as she stood at the door.
“Send them in,” Ruby said and moments later her gang entered the office.
She smiled at her friends as she saw how relieved they were now that school was over. They had been together for years and even though they were done with school, it wasn’t the end of their friendship.
“I’m so glad you made it in time. Help me carry those will you?” she said to her friends as soon as they were inside.
“We should, only that way can we leave here as soon as possible,” Alex said.
“Says the man with a broken heart; drinks are on me tonight,” Ruby said and they all cheered.
“I love the sound of that. Let’s go out and enjoy ourselves and forget about all the bad things and hope for a brighter future,” Nancy chipped in.
“Nice words my dear friend,” Jack said as he holds the first box.
“Let’s do this then,” Ruby said as she stood up.
The four of them began to collect the boxes in her office to the awaiting cars though the members ended up doing the whole work. In the end, they just stood by their cars while the boxes kept on coming.
“But seriously Ruby, why do you have so many boxes? It’s not like the office was your home?” Nancy asked and somehow Ruby felt her heart sink.
“Now that you ask me that question, I just realized that it was more of a home too. I am going to miss it,” Ruby said with her voice filled with so much emotion.
“We will all do but I bet there are so many students who are partying because we are leaving now,” Jack said and they all laughed.
“How can they not celebrate after everything we did?” Alex asked and Ruby just shook her head before answering.
“We live in such a scary world. If you don’t want to be eaten then you have to attack first. Besides, I don’t have any regrets. My conscience is clear,” Ruby told her friends and she meant every word.
“I get what you are saying. Anyway, let’s just forget it and go out there and have some fun,” Nancy said.
“Are we not going with the kids?” Alex asked.
“I wouldn’t him to keep on ordering me around. He won’t be coming and he has classes to attend,” Ruby replied and they all looked at her.
“I can’t believe you are saying this but you have a point. Let’s leave here before they come here,” Jack sided her and she smiled at him.
“Aren’t you sad at all?” Ruby asked Jack.
“I am fine, don’t worry about me,” Jack answered but Ruby wasn’t a fool, she could see that he was hurt.
She didn’t want to ask what happened between Jack and Brian since she respected his privacy but if it continues like this then she was going to intervene but first tonight wasn’t a night for that.
After all the boxes were loaded in the car, the four of them drove straight to Ruby’s place since she was the only one who had boxes. The butler and the maids carried the boxes inside while she and her friends settled themselves in the lounge.
She met her mother who was busy giving her friends some drinks.
“I don’t see him, where did you leave him?” Grace asked.
“At school, he has classes and I would kill for some alone time,” Ruby replied her mother and she saw a sneaky smile on her face.
“I guess if you want that then you will have to leave now. I know Harvey and he won’t tolerate you going around drinking even with your friends,” Grace said and Ruby sighed.
“I will let them finish their glasses and we will be out of here,” Ruby said and saw her mother smiling once again.
Ruby returned to her friends where they talked while finishing the glasses of juice that her mother had given them.
When they were done, they bided Grace Farewell before the four of them drove away from the mansion for the club. Because of the exams, they couldn’t even go clubbing or have some nice time but since they were all done then there were not going to hold back.
Harvey couldn’t believe that Ruby actually ran away from him at school. It was her last day at school and yet she just left fully knowing that he couldn’t come to her since he was in a lecture. When he got home, he found out that she wasn’t there but had gone out with her friends to have some fun.
“Don’t be angry dear, you know her so well. How about you calm down and wait for her to come back?” Grace asked but he just didn’t have that patience.
“I can’t let her drink alcohol especially in that condition,” Harvey said it out aloud and Grace’s attention was all on him. What had he just done?
“What do you mean by that?” Grace asked.
He was nervous but since the cat was out of the bag, he just had to go ahead and confess.
“She is pregnant,” he spilled the beans and saw Grace taken over by shock and surprised that she nearly dropped to the ground.
“What do you mean by that? Does she know? How long have you known this?” Grace began to bomb him with questions.
He took hold of her and walked her to the couch where they both sat down. This wasn’t a conversation that one would have while standing up.
“To answer all your questions, Ruby is indeed pregnant and she doesn’t know it,” Harvey replied.
“How far is she?”
“I have known about it for a month now but I just couldn’t tell her. I didn’t want her to be distracted especially when she was busy with exams. I took the test when I started suspecting about her irregular menstruation cycle and I was hoping to tell her when she was done but I just didn’t expect that she would go drinking,” Harvey said sounding worried.
Grace took his hands in hers and he looked at her. She was crying even though no sound was coming out.
“I didn’t know you were this mature. Thank you for being in my life and Ruby’s. You were so considerate not to tell her even though I can see how she is going to react when she learns about this news. I won’t keep you here longer, go and stop her from drinking but don’t separate her from her friends. You know how edgy she can become,” Grace said and he felt relieved that she wasn’t mad at him.
“I will go and do that,” he said as he stood up.
“Your dinner will be here when you come back.”
