CHAPTER 34

She asked him very straightforwardly and he didn’t know whether it was wise to give her an honest answer or not but he was going to try his best and just confess about it once and for all.
“I have been meaning to talk to you about it for a while now but because of the exams it was hectic. I don’t see her as just my sister, I love Ruby as a woman and as a sister too,” he confessed and he saw the look on Grace’s face.
He could tell the news wasn’t new to her but at the same time he could see the surprise look in her face as well.
“I always knew that something like this will happen but I was ignorant of it. Do you know what will happen if people find out?”
“I know exactly how it all looks Grace but I can’t help it. I have been in love with her for so long and I know it’s wrong but I can’t live without her. I want to seek your blessings, please allow me to date Ruby,” he said and found himself kneeling down.
He had never asked for anything from her before, he never thought he would one day but even if he had to kowtow the whole day in order to receive her blessings then he was willing to do anything for her.
“Harvey, this…….” Grace didn’t finish speaking and he looked up and saw Ruby walking in.
Ruby knew that she was sleeping with Harvey but when she woke up he wasn’t there. She washed herself and wore a pair of white shorts and a huge t-shirt and went downstairs to look for some breakfast.
But when she arrived there, she heard her mother and Harvey talking. When she approached them, she heard the whole talk and she couldn’t help herself but smile as Harvey declared his undying love for her to her mother.
When she saw him kneeling down, she decided it was time to come clean to her mother so she joined them. She went down on her knees in front of her mother and she looked at her with pleading eyes.
“Ruby, don’t tell me you are…..…”
“Yes mother. I’m sorry it happened this way but I never meant it for it to happen. I love him; I guess I have always loved him from the start but was too blind to see it. I know it’s wrong but this is me begging you please to bless us,” she asked her mother with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Her mother wiped away the tears running down her cheeks and she embraced her in a hug.
“I know my daughter. All I want for you is for you to be happy and if he makes you happy then I will be happy too. Your father will probably go nuts after he hears this but I will talk to him. I will always stand by your side and I hope you two know exactly what you got yourselves into,” Grace said and Ruby couldn’t herself but smile at that.
“Thank you, mother,” she said and hugged her back.
“Come here son,” Grace said to Harvey and the three of them embraced each other in a hug as one.
Ruby was happy that her mother didn’t get to question her much. She was happy that she was willing to lose for her. There were a few obstacles left but she knew that she will be able to conquer all of them as long as Harvey was by her side.
“I can’t believe my babies are now grown up,” Grace said with a teary voice.
“It’s because you raised us well. We are sorry for everything,” Ruby said.
“You are forgiven. Now, did you have your breakfast?” Grace asked her and she shook her head.
“You better go and have something to eat,” she dismissed her and she stood up.
“I will go and have something to eat then,” she said as she looked at her mother.
“Okay, I will have a walk outside with Harvey,” Grace said and Ruby smiled at her mother and Harvey.
“Okay.”
Ruby left the two in the lounge and she went to the kitchen where she told the maid what she wanted. She went to the dining where the maid served her breakfast. While she was eating, so many questions were running in her head.
She was wondering what exactly her mother was talking to Harvey that she wasn’t supposed to hear. She just hoped that she wasn’t going to make anything difficult for him.
Harvey couldn’t believe that it all went simple like that. He was now walking around the compound with Grace.
“I never thought that one day we will be talking about this but I guess I have been pushing it aside all this while. I always suspected that one day this relationship of yours will turn out to be more than the way it was originally supposed to be,” Grace said as they walk together.
“I never thought I will have this talk with you either especially after the way you looked after me. You look after me as your own and never mistreated me before. Because of you I never felt alone or motherless. I am very grateful for everything,” Harvey told Grace honestly.
“I’m glad to hear that from you. I always thought since I came from a humble background and suddenly came into your lives back then soon after your mothers passing, I thought you will never accept me but I’m grateful to hear that from you,” Grace said as she stopped.
“I liked you from day one and I really hope you are not mad at me because of my relationship with Ruby.”
“Honestly, I am relieved, I know my daughter very well. She is a hard person and very difficult to deal with but only you know what she wants. If she is with you then I will be at peace. Just take care of her for me and make sure she won’t get mad. I wouldn’t want to see her angry face in this house. I don’t even want to think about it,” Grace said shaking her head and he smiled.
