CHAPTER 35
It wasn’t a secret when it comes to Ruby’s mood. She was lovely when she wasn’t mad. Last time she got angry she sent the last student council president to the hospital. Back in her days she fought almost every day and broke a lot of bones bust despite all that she stole his heart more and more.
“I will make her happy, I promise you that,” Harvey promised.
“I’m glad to hear that. I will speak to your father tonight when he returned from playing golf,” Grace said.
“Thank you very much. I will leave everything in your hands,” Harvey said.
“So, what about Janet, does she know?”
“I spoke to her the other day and asked her to cancel the arrangement but I never heard a word from her since,” Harvey said.
“She must still be angry. Let me speak to your father first and then we will see where to go from there,” Grace said.
“Thank you. I will go back inside. I need to meet with my friends later today,” Harvey said.
“Okay, please be safe and tell Ruby that I would like to see her if she is done eating.”
“I will.”
Harvey left Grace to her walk and he went inside the house. He found Ruby just finishing her breakfast and he walked up to her. She smiled at him as he approached.
“It looks like the talk went well,” she said as she stood from her chair.
“Indeed, it went well. She wants to speak to you and asked me to tell you to come outside,” he told her as he took her hand.
“I guess she has a lot of things to talk about. Let me go and talk to her then,” Ruby said.
“Okay, I need to go and see the boys. I will call you later,” Harvey said.
“Pass my greetings and warn that friend of yours that if he hurt my Jack in any way, I will castrate him and feed his balls to the dogs.”
“I will pass along the message,” he said and gave her a peck on her cheek.
“Go now and drive safe,” she said and left the dining room.
Ruby walked outside towards where her mother was now seated. She approached her mother and sat beside her.
“You are done eating?” she asked her.
“Yes, I am. I heard you wanted to see me,” Ruby replied.
“Yes, we need to talk. When did this began?” her mother asked.
“It’s been a while,” she answered.
“Do you love him that much?”
“Yes, I do mother. I have never felt that way before for anyone,” she answered her mother.
“You should have told me Ruby. I am your mother and you shouldn’t hide these things from me. I would have supported you either way. Your happiness is mine also and I will never let anyone jeopardize it. If I had known I wouldn’t have cornered your father into arranging that marriage between Harvey and Janet. Now everything is all messed up,” Grace said sounding worried.
“I’m very sorry mom. I should have told you sooner,” she apologized.
“And another thing, I hope you aren’t pregnant yet with his baby,” she said looking very serious.
“I’m not, we are still students and he is still young. I have many things to accomplish first before any of that happens,” Ruby answered with a smile, she couldn’t hide it.
“I hope so. Be careful, I wouldn’t want anything to embarrass this family and that includes you.”
“I will bear that in mind mom.”
“So, let’s change the topic to something else. How were the exams?” she asked.
“They were bearable, I think I did well,” Ruby replied.
“How many are left before the semester ends?”
“I am left with four more and then I will be done,” Ruby replied.
“Okay, just make sure you read properly and rest well. It won’t be wise to strain yourself during a time like this,” her mother advised.
“I will heed your advice mom. Let me go inside. I am meeting my friends today. We will be having a study group so I will come back late,” Ruby informed her mother.
“Okay, my baby. Just don’t return late. Pass my greetings to your friends,” Grace said.
“I will mom. I love you and take care,” Ruby said kissing her mother on the cheeks.
Ruby smiled as she left her mother seated in the gazebo outside. She went back inside the house and changed her clothes. She picked her books and on her way out she took her car keys and went to the basement where they park their cars.
