The War

The door flew open imprinting fear in the heart of Susan Lee she steadied herself to flaunt her fighting skills as she walked to the door, once she got to the door here eyes met the dready figure of Luke, his eyes were a bit red and his skin was pale.

"Why?" He asked calmly.

"Luke, you are here, come on in" she ushered but he kept staring at her with his cold eyes.

"Why did you send her there? Why did you say anything? Mom why!?" He addressed her like he always did.

"Her life is in that bastard's hands now and it's all because of you took her there" he screamed, his red eyes were stinging as the tears threatened to fall.

"Did you love her this much?" Mrs Lee laughed a bit.

"Surely I could never have loved her as much as her own mother, so why?" He asked

"You are right, surely you do not love her as much as I do.." Mrs Lee said calmly.

"..My child was loosing herself slowly, staying up in the nights, being blank in the day.." She said as tiny bits of memory came to her.

"..the taunts, the mockery, she had even forgotten the times of the day, she lost interest in going out, she needed to leave this place, as a mother I could not watch my child go Luke, I couldn't!! I did what a mother would do" She replied leaving Luke a minute to calm down.

"Then why the Evergreen pack?" Luke asked

"Because I was sure she would be fine" Mrs Lee replied.

"Sure?" He asked.

"Is this is what being sure brings?" He asked.

"Did you believe that they would not find themselves?" She asked.

"We say only what we think, the moon goddess is the decider of fate" Mrs Lee deadpanned.

"You and my child were going to resist the moon goddess message to you and how did that turn out for you?" She asked.

"Somethings happen because it is the will of the heaven Luke, somethings are not within your control, the quicker you learn this, the easier it will get" she said.

"So you truly do not fear for Diane, everyday she spends alive there, is a cause for glorification for us here" Luke said.

"I am scared, I pray every night, but my child bears the Mark of the goddess, if the goddess has blessed her with this fate, then she should be able to protect her, and if my child dies, then the will of the gods is done, after all I did not question the moon goddess when she took the life of my husband now did I?" She asked.

"I have only little control over the things that happen and I cannot blame anybody for that" she said.

"I will rescue her and bring her back here" Luke said.

Mrs Lee expression turned foul.

"Surely you do not feel compassion for him as your son in-law" Luke said on noticing her mood swing.

"He is the husband of my child so technically it makes him, but that is not my major source of concern"

"Then what is?" He asked.

"You wish to bring her back, how?" She asked but he just kept quiet.

"You cannot claim another man's wife unless through war or do you plan on stealing her away in the Night?" She looked in his eyes, there was a certain type of emotion in his eyes but she knew very well what it was.

"War? Are you crazy? Have you learned nothing from the death of your father or my husband?" She asked.

"You will bring this land to a drastic end if you continue to fuel your passion of war, whether you choose to accept it or not we lost the previous war with the lives of our soldiers and our leaders, the former Alpha of the pack was a kind man but you have seen his son, he is ruthless, this pack would not survive his wrath, have you ever wondered why Diane made no complaint before deciding to get married to him? She loved you so much she decided against marriage because she wanted to watch you become a great leader" she said.

"The more reason why I should save her" Luke responded turning his back away from Mrs Lee and moving towards the direction of the door.

"This mistake could cause you Luke, greatly even" she said behind him.

"He won't win us this time, we reached a ceasefire term, we did not sign a peace treaty, he will use Diane as a card against us" he halted.

"If he is doing that then don't you think you are already being a subject to his will?" She asked, but he walked away instead of replying her.

"Please lord don't let him make this mistake, or anyone in fact, please don't let him make the same mistake my husband did" she prayed, her mind was slowly drifting off to the thoughts of her dead husband, he had always hated the Evergreen pack for reason she could not say she did not know.

He took interest in the boundary line that the Evergreen pack shared with their pack and asked the Alpha Mr Rowley to claim, the land,make use of it. The Alpha of the Evergreen pack was nice but he was not stupid, he refused to let go of the land.

They had several meeting over the Land use and possession, no one could tell that he was brewing the thoughts of a war in his head with the crazy ideology to strike first, when it was last expected and truthfully it was unexpected.

He told her about his plans the night before he told the Alpha.

She tried her best to stop him but he was already lost, the next week came and the Alpha and her husband left for war.

Two weeks passed and the soldiers returned with the bodies of the some of the soldiers they could savage, the Alpha and her Husband.
