Chapter 13

"Honey, it's been a long we went on a date," Ashley said, as she woke up next to Logan.

"I am a good cook, I can give you a treat in the dining room," Logan said as he leaned closer to kiss his lover.

"Yes, but we have done that over and over again, I believe I know all your recipes," Ashley said, tossing towards the other side of the bed.

Logan leaned closer to her and asked, "Alright then, where do you suggest we go?"

"You are the man, you should take charge," Logan made a little groan to remind her that he was in a fight a week ago, maybe she would reconsider her decision.

"It's not working, pick me up by three." Ashley rolled out of bed to prepare for the hectic day ahead.

"Okay, Ms., let's make it five, I have a meeting with my clan," Logan said.

"Okay, five it is" Ashley respected the fact that her boyfriend was a werewolf, though deep down the ventricles of her heart she wanted to be part of his everyday life, she wanted him to walk with her holding her hands wherever he was going, she loved Logan and so far the only thing she disliked about him was his absence and for that reason, she wanted to follow him to wherever he was. Sometimes she closes from work and heads straight to his club to spend time with him until they decide where they were spending the night at. Ashley understood that she was not accepted by his clan. They considered her a mere human, knowing fully well of the history of the central city everyone was living at the edge, trying hard to prevent anything that will inflict pain on them and the number one precaution was not to get any closer.

She liked Logan because he saw people for who they were, just people and nothing more, and for that reason, everyone felt the Tropicana nightclub was a safe space for everyone. Until last week when he had come home, bruised and injured by vampires. It gave her sleepless nights for a day or two until he reassured her everything was okay and she should worry not.

Logan got to the location of the meet-up an hour earlier, it was a casino with only a single light on, and it was focused on a wide round poker table; it had several eight chairs, widely spaced among each other. Logan sat on one of the chairs and waited for the remaining leaders of his hybrid clan. He thought about Ashley as he waited patiently for the rest, this time he felt a little scared as he remembers her and the reason for this feeling of discontent was from a conversation he had with her two years ago. He lay on her lap while she tried braiding his curly hair.

"Of all the species in Central city, which do you love the most?" He asked randomly from their conversations about things occurring in the city.

"Oh my, I used to love the vampires more"

"Used to?" Logan looked at the adorable face of his lover.

"Yes, after Andrew I didn't like them anymore."

"Wow, he did you a solid," Logan laughed which caused Ashley to draw a strand of his hair playfully.

"Ouch!" he screamed.

"Watch your words or you will get more," she threatened with a smirk on her face.

"Understood, your highness," he said and asked. "Why not humans?"

"Because I can read and have seen their treachery besides they are not united for only the elites have a group, an average girl like me have no group to hang on to," Ashley added. "The werewolves have packed, the vampires have theirs also but the proud humans don't look out for their own, only when it is beneficial to themselves."

"You never mentioned anything about the hybrids." Logan chipped in.

"Because I loathe them."

"Huh?" he said as he stood up from her lap and faced her. "Why?" He looked confused.

"Because they are so secretive about their identity, I do not know why they do that but I hate the fact that they do so."

"And you cared to explain the reason why?" He asked worried but hid his expression with a smile so as not to give her a reason to suspect his real identity.

"Have you ever seen a hybrid around?" She asked, he nodded in declination.

"So you see until their reason is well known I will continue to dislike them. Now bring your hair let me continue what I started." Logan lay his head on her thigh only for her to continue running her hands through his scalp.

The chairs were full this time, everyone had come along with their guards who stood in the dark.

"Welcome everybody!" Logan addressed the chiefs.

"Thank you, Hefe," Lord Carlos said in his Mexican accent. The table consisted of six other well-respected leaders.

Logan stood up and continued to address his people. "I am grateful for you honoring this invitation, though it came on short notice as our common ritual every month, we make time out of our busy schedules to discuss any issue that troubles us or a way to improve our manner of living and to assist any sub-clan that needs assistance to grow or jump the hurdle. This has been the way of our forefathers and we plan to hand over the baton of leadership to the next generation better than it was handed to us." Everyone nodded their heads in affirmation slowly.

Logan pointed to one of the female leaders that sat next to him by his right "Queen Vicky, over to you," and he sat down.

The blood-red-haired woman stood up and bowed to all the other leaders. "Thank you, Lord Logan, for honoring all of us. So far so good, everything is fine with my people," she gestured with her hands. "But what is this I hear about you getting in a fight with a giant in your club?" she asked looking at Logan. Everyone at the table threw their gaze toward Logan.

"Eric the giant?" Lord Draxler, seems to be the oldest in the group due to the white beard he had all over his face.

"He assaulted a woman in my club. What could I have done?" Logan asked.

"Was she a hybrid?" The brunette lady, Queen Astana, queried.

"I did not wait to check, she was in trouble and I helped. Everything only escalated." Logan tried to explain himself.

"It doesn't matter, you should have told your guards to handle it!" Queen Vicky, snapped.

"Logan do you know the responsibilities that are placed on your shoulders?" Lord Draxler asked.

"Have I ever given you a reason to question my abilities as your leader?" Logan asked calmly.

"You just did," Lord Carlos said.

"Maybe if you have had a personal guard with you all this wouldn't have happened." Queen Vicky chipped in.

"And I have one," Logan replied, glaring at, Queen Vicky.

"Tyler is a werewolf, not a hybrid."

"And what did I say about stereotyping?" Logan asked. "Can you all just keep quiet and listen to me?" Logan commanded.

The casino instantly became silent as a graveyard. "What happened in the club the other night, was my fault I agree but my point is this; she was a lady being bullied by Eric the giant or whatever you call him, I rescued her and I am not saying that I am her knight in shining armor or whatever you guys are thinking but she was in my club and I felt it a duty to protect her which I did. I dealt with Eric and his boys and I made sure they wouldn't lay their hands on a lady anymore," he looked towards Queen Astana and said. "Yes, she is a hybrid. Did I regret fighting? Yes, would I have protected the lady if she was another specie? Of course, I will. Will I do it again if I find myself in that situation again?" He looked at everyone that was seated at the table and said. "Yes I will, now can we can move to the next topic of the day, for I need to meet someone later on," he looked at his silvered watch and saw the long hand slightly on six and the shorthand on two.

"Just be careful, for every action has a repercussion. Eric the giant isn't a man that would let everything go just like that." Lord Carlos warned.

"Thank you, Lord Carlos" Logan gave him a little smile. Whatever Eric was plotting, he was ready for it.
