Chapter 26

Logan had expected this question like a pregnant mother who had passed her due date. Like a farmer who had prayed endlessly for rain and now the cloud was finally heavy. Logan knew the question was coming but he was not prepared for it. Since his fight with Eric the giant, Logan had avoided eye contact with her, he could not look her in the eyes. He felt guilty that she finally found out his true identity, he had planned on telling her maybe in the future, but it was nothing like this. The pain of it all was that he could not find a perfect reason why he hadn't told her about his true identity. How would she feel if she knew he was the leader of the hybrid clan in the central city? Would he have a relationship after that? Logan became scared and wondered how he could navigate the whole situation.

"Huh," he feigned ignorance.

"You heard me well, Logan Reeves. If I hadn't found out, would I have ever known my lover's, true identity!?" The fact that she addressed him as her lover gave Logan a beacon of hope that he still had a relationship at the moment but at this point, anything could happen.

"Nothing hides under the sun forever. Eventually, the truth will prevail. I love you, and I have my reasons for not telling you but let me ask you this Ashley," Logan placed his hand on Ashley's lap.

"Would you have loved me, if you knew I was a hybrid from the start?" Ashley was about to reply when the doctor came out from the emergency room.

"Doctor, is he okay?" Logan stood up and walked towards the doctor that approached them.

"Your friend will survive. We should thank our stars that your friend is a werewolf but right now, you need to let him rest," The doctor said with a smile as he walked away, to see another patient.

Logan couldn't hide his joy as he thanked the moon goddess and smiled at the love of his life as they hugged each other. Heading back to sit down in the waiting room. Logan's phone chimed with an SOS message. It was from Lord Carlos. The message read

"Casino right now!" Logan cursed, "What the hell goes on in this city without the hybrids knowing?"

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"To meet the chiefs of my clan," he announced, Logan dialed Jessica's phone.

Jessica had gotten the longest night of her life. Time moved like a tortoise

as she waited impatiently to know the current situation of her best friend, she had paced through Logan's penthouse about a million times as she believed it calmed her nerves, but this time there was nothing calm about his nerves because she would always stamp her feet on the marbled floor as she soon as she gets to the other end of the room. Jessica was by the kitchen area, opening the tall fridge door that was big enough for her to walk through it when her phone vibrated.

"OMG!" Jessica's heart raced. "Hello," she began. "Please tell me you are all alive, how are Tyler and Ashley? Please tell me you are all made it." Jessica panicked.

"We are all fine" Logan's chilled voice could be felt through the phone "Can you please come down to the hospital, I need you to be present at an emergency meeting and I can't leave Ashley alone again" Jessica had a lot of things running through her mind, how could all of them be fine and still be at the hospital? Who is at the hospital? Why the hospital? What was Logan not telling me? Could it be Tyler?

And just like he could read her mind, she heard Logan assure her, "do not overthink it, everyone is fine, Tyler took more of the beatings but he would be fine also, I just need to be somewhere at the moment."

"Okay, which of the hospitals?" She asked, scared maybe he could hear her heartbeat from the phone.

"The biggest hospital in the city, St. Andrews," and he hung up the phone. Jessica immediately moved towards Logan kept his car keys and took the closest key she could lay her hands upon and moved towards the elevator.

"I think I will wait for Jessica to arrive." Ashley pouted her lips.

"Of course, we will wait for her," Logan said as his heart continued to race. Logan couldn't help but wonder, how could he be this scared of this creature that sat beside him when he was the leader of the hybrids and his name had made its pact in the community to the stage that it made people shiver.

Logan's heart became discombobulated by the fact that he had to attend the emergency meeting and he was certain that his fellow members had found out about his incident with the vampires, what would his late, Uncle Joe think of this moment if he was still alive and witnessed the actions of his nephew? Logan continued to pace through the waiting room when Jessica walked hysterically into the room. She ran towards Ashley and hugged her best friend tight, squeezing her like she hadn't seen Ashley in a long while.

After they were done with their whole greeting and showing of affection to one another, Ashley broke from her hugging Jessica and looked towards Logan, among all the tension that he noticed in her eyes, there was still an element of bravery hidden at all the angles of her eyes.

"Shall we?" She asked Logan.

"Thank you for doing this " Logan thanked Jessica.

"It's nothing," Jessica adjusted her hair.

"At least my best friend is back," she tapped on Ashley's shoulder. Ashley held her hand and smiled. After Logan had given Jessica all the information she needed, he forced a smile through his lips and walked towards Ashley, holding her hands as they both walked out of the waiting room.
