Chapter 27

Logan's car engine reeved into the parking lot of the casino. It was dark and the only source of light was a fluorescent bulb that kept on flickering. Anybody would get close to Logan's car, will feel the heat that was generated by the car as a result of the way Logan had driven as he tried to make up for the time he had spent waiting for Jessica. He wasn't the type that loved to keep people waiting but with the look of things, he was breaking another virtue he had stood by for a while.

"Today is different," he muttered out loud. "Let's go," he said to Ashley.

Ashley couldn't believe her ears, it was one thing to hide his identity from her and another thing to take her into the meeting of the overlords. "How important are you to the hybrids?" She asked in curiosity.

"Enough to make them set up a meeting to scold me?"

"You are their leader,"

"After, Uncle Joe's death," he answered.

"Then they shouldn't have to call a meeting to scold you or tell you how to govern your people or whatever you plan to do with your life." Logan knew Ashley was complaining because she did not want to attend the meeting but he wasn't about to leave her alone after what had just transpired with the vampires.

"Okay, I have heard enough, ma'am and I am certain that you could mention it in the meeting, but right now we are entering into this meeting together because I am not leaving you alone in the car"

"Why do you have to answer them?" She asked as she folded her hands in the passenger's seat of the car

"Because we Hybrids have a different culture from Humans, Werewolves, and Vampires. This system has made us better than the remaining species. Can we please go at this moment?" He asked. Ashley waited for a while before she opened her door

"Thank you," Logan said and dropped from his side of the car. He noticed the cars that were parked outside of the casino. At this moment, Logan was certain that every high chief was present already waiting for him.

"What is a human doing inside here?" Lord Draxler was the first to flare up. The casino at this moment had been cleared up for the leaders of the hybrids to have their emergency meeting, the only source of light was the one that changed over the poker table where the Hybrids sat, after that, one could hardly know that it was a casino.

"This is the reason why we are having this meeting, I wasn't going to take any chances," Logan said as he held onto Ashley's hand.

"You must be out of your mind, Lord Logan," Queen Astana said in a calm voice.

"Can you people please settle down and listen to me?" Logan said as he gave Ashley a chair to sit on. The cushioned chair was a little bit far from where the light was.

"No, we won't listen to you. We called this meeting and at least you should give us the courtesy to listen to us," Lord Carlos finally spoke.

"Okay, I am all ears," this time, Logan had gotten to the table. He drew his chair backward and sat down, ready to hear every leader of the Hybrid clans seated rant to him.

"We have a code of conduct, We have a way we do things. The rules and regulations are there for a reason, and as a person who was handed over the baton of leadership, you are to lead by example. Younger generations should emulate and look up to you. We have tolerated you for a long time and now it seems you are about to overstep your boundary. Logan, I think it's time you stop this your shinanigans, and stop acting like a child that you are not!" Lord Carlos spoke.

"Wow, okay. Does anybody have anything to say or has Lord Carlos spoken on all your..."

"This isn't a joking matter!" Queen Astana interrupted Logan. She stood up from her chair and looked at their leader

"We asked you to have an entourage that will guard you, but you declined. You told us a single werewolf was enough to protect you and on this same table, we all agreed to respect your decision." Queen Astana placed her hands on the table and leaned closer toward Logan's direction and continued, "We talked about getting you a beautiful maid from a respected family from the Hybrid's clan, You declined the offer also and we chose to respect your decision because that is what we have been doing respect each other and Logan we only ask for one thing and one thing alone and that is to respect us back," Queen Astana turned towards her fellow Hybrids "We talked about Eric the giant in this same place and Logan choose to disrespect all our advice and now he has brought a human to the same place we have our meetings. Why Logan? Why!?" She yelled.

With a smirk on his face, Logan looked toward Queen Astana "Please have your seat," he said in a husky voice.

"Thank you for all your concerns and all. As to having an entourage to protect me, It's not my nature to have men who I could beat having to guard me about my mate, I fell in love with a human and I am proud of it, My love with her came in a way I least expected and I keep falling for her as the day passes. But I am not here to lecture you all on love and relationships but I did what I did because that is what leaders do. If anyone has the question on his mind asking if I would do the same if another hybrid was in her situation," he pointed towards Ashley. "Then the answer is yes, I would do the same, besides I will move mountains for any of my fellow hybrids. So please never question my ability to rule because I will give my life for anyone I care about..." he paused for a while and asked. "Any more questions?" The whole table was quiet like a graveyard. "Okay, I have a human to protect" He stood up and walked towards Ashley.
