Chapter 10.

After a week at her new job, Megan was finally getting the hang of it. Mrs Seymour had gone on her trip and the staff were very nice and helpful to her.

It made things a lot more easier, they were very eager to show her around and show her how everything was done.
And to make things even better Mrs Seymour had paid her in advance. That was such a relief to her. She first thought about using the money to pay for her rent but then she wondered if she could get a new place with the money she had.

She loved her apartment, she really did, but it wasn't the best place to raise a baby and she had to start planning for the future with everything that was happening.

Her apartment was very small, made for just one person to comfortably live in. Two people could stay there and it might be manageable, but having a baby there would be stuffy. She didn't even have enough space to put in a cot or even a bassinet.

That was how small it was.

Her mother was finally back from her vacation and Megan was seriously considering moving in with her till we was comfortable enough to stand on her two feet.

It was the logical thing she could do, even though she couldn't deny she was rather hesitant to live with her mother.

She loved her mother, really she did, but amidst the boyfriend drama and her controlling attitude Megan doubted that she would be able to cope. Her mother would want to meddle in every aspect of her life.

She was behind the counter filling in for a staff that had an upset stomach when Anthony walked in.

Megan waved at him. He was a regular at the cafe. She didn't know if it was because of her or he genuinely loved the coffee but he was always coming over.

And he didn't leave until he had talked to her.

And Megan couldn't help but admit to herself that he was growing on her.

He was so nice, sweet and thoughtful. A complete opposite of Roman.

The last time she had seen Roman, he was trying to get her to sign a confidentiality and non disclosure agreement.
At first she had been really confused, she didn't know why he was asking her to sign such documents, she was under the impression that he had come to apologise from their time in the park.

She was angry that he believed that she would ever stoop so low to tarnish his name in anyway. She didn't even know why the idea popped in his head the first place.

And the matter had quickly escalated to an ugly argument and Roman left so as not to make things worse with her.

It was then she decided to google him. She knew he looked familiar, she knew he was provably rich from the way he dressed and talked, but she never connected the name with the face.

Roman Harrington was the CEO of one of the biggest multi billionaire companies in the country. He always made the blogs as the most eligible bachelor because he rarely made his relationships public.

And he did a bit of modelling when he was younger.

Megan had to pull her eyes away from her laptop as more pictures from his modelling days kept her glued to her screen.

He was a perfect body of art and it was too bad that she couldn't remember their time together.

And everything about his lifestyle had been low key and unknown till a pregnancy scandal a few years back.

Several sources had claimed the DNA test showed the pregnancy wasn't his, but it still didn't stop his name from being connected to such articles.

If only she had tried her best to be the least bit understanding, she would have understood that he was only trying to protect his image and his company's.

"Hey?"

Anthony said as he appeared in front of the counter with a smile on his face.

He was wearing a black shirt that looked like it had splattered paint on it and dark jeans. He also looked very tired.

"Hello Anthony. What can I get you?"

She asked and he shrugged as he sat on a nearby stool.

"Oh I don't want anything right now. Besides, it's a little too late in the afternoon to be taking coffee inst it.?"

Megan shrugged.

"I used to be able to take coffee any day, any time."

He chuckled.

"Awwwn. I'm sure you're going to miss it a lot. Especially when you're surrounded by the smell of coffee."

He sniffed the air and Megan rolled her eyes.

"I'm not even interested in it... I get so nauseous these days."

"It's like I can barely keep anything down."

"Oh! Sorry about that. Do we need to go to the hospital or something?"

Megan shook her head.

"No need. I have a doctor's appointment coming up."

"Do you want me to come with you?"

"Oh no! No need. It's just a thing I have to do with Roman. He wants his own doctor to examine me."

Anthony narrowed his eyes.

"Do you want him to?"

She shrugged. Frankly she didn't care. Although she was very nervous about the trip to the Doctor's office, seeing as she and Roman couldn't go a day without arguing, she was anxious about what their next meeting could bring.

It would mean having to see Roman again and after their last meeting together, she was the one who as supposed to apologise for flaring up.

"It's good. I get examined by a doctor, he can see if everything is okay and set a possible date for a DNA test."

Anthony nodded.

"I just want to make sure that he's not pressuring you to done what you don't want to do."

"I'm a big girl Anthony, I can take care of myself."

Anthony nodded.

"Yes, I know you are. But it doesn't hurt having a little help sometimes."

"Yes, we'd be meeting with you in the next few days. Can you schedule a DNA test appointment after that?"

Roman asked as he walked into his penthouse with his phone to his ear, he was so engrossed that he didn't notice his mother coming out of the kitchen.

He just came back from a trip to New Jersey after a long board meeting. He was tired and he needed rest before going back to the Company.

He wished he could take a few days off but there was a lot going on and he hated to leave work unattended.

"No, not really. I just wanted to confirm everything... And I wanted it to be by you Dr Osbourne "

"Do you know how many weeks gone she is?"

The Doctor asked and Roman sighed as he rubbed at his temples.

"I don't know. I just found out she's pregnant last week. So, I don't really know how many weeks gone she is."

"That's why I scheduled a doctor's appointment with you."

He added and the doctor confirmed the time and date fr the appointment.

"Okay. Thank you Dr Osbourne."

He started shrugging off his jacket as he threw his phone on the couch. He was ready for a hot shower.

"Roman? What's going on?"

Mrs Louisa Harrington asked as she walked towards her son.

Roman's eyes widened, startled as he turned around and found his mother standing in front of him.

She had a frown on her beautiful face.
Louisa Harrington was Roman's mother and Roman was her only son. She was a businesswoman through and through and she had taught her son a great deal about business before retiring to travel the world.

She came to New York to see her son about three times a year even though Roman rarely made time for her.

"Mother... What are you doing here?"

He asked and she shrugged.

"I told you I was coming to New York last week. I doubt you even remembered that I was."

"No! It's not like that. It must have skipped my mind. How are you doing Mother?"

She asked as he walked towards his mother and gave her a brief hug.

He kissed her cheeks but she was still frowning at him. She rolled her eyes and gently pushed him off her.

He wasn't going to fool her with his charms.

"Who were you talking to?"

She asked and Roman shook his head.

"Oh it's nothing. Don't bother yourself."

"Nothing? Wasn't that Dr Osbourne?"

"Yes mother."

"And what was that I heard about someone being pregnant?"

"What happened Roman?"

She insisted as she folded her arms, her eyes glaring at her son.

Roman sighed, his mother was going to get the story out of him one way or the other.

"There's a girl... She says she's pregnant but she's not sure who the father is."

"Not sure? How did that happen?"

"And wait! I didn't know you were seeing someone. Or is it that girl you talked to me about?"

His mother asked with a glint in her eyes and Roman frowned.

"Wait! I talked to you about a girl?"
He asked and she nodded.

"Yes! Did you forget? Her name was Megan or something and the day I called you and told you I was coming to New York you kept referring to her."

"Oh."

Roman said as he tried very hard to remember. His memory was fuzzy.

But he remembered mentioning her.

"Oh, I did. Yes. She's the one."

"Hmm... Interesting. How come she doesn't know who the father is?"

His mother asked and Roman shrugged.

"She had an accident... She lost her memory. About three weeks of it."

"Oh, poor thing..."

His mother answered and Roman shrugged.

"That's why I need to get a DNA test quickly and get everything over with."

"And if the baby is yours?"

His mother asked as she raised her eyebrows and Roman scoffed.

"I highly doubt it. But if it is, I'll take responsibility."
Megan's Baby.
