Chapter 26.

Roman had planned the perfect date. And Megan was very thrilled. A dinner date on a boat cruise, it wasn't something she had been on, despite how popular boat cruises were in New York. Still, Roman had gone all out for their dinner date.

Everything was exquisite, from the decor, to the music to the ambience and the courteous staff they met.

Everything seemed to have been planned because as they arrived at Le Chateau d'Amour their private table was already waiting for them.

"This is beautiful."

Megan said as she settled in her seat. There was a band playing soft jazz in the background and Roman was sitting across her.

"It looks like you had everything planned out."

She said as she looked around again, Roman was staring at her intensely.

"Yes. I wanted somewhere you'd like."

"Well, I like this a lot."

The waiter came in with the menu and asked them about what wine they would be drinking. Megan opted for water.

Since she was pregnant she couldn't take alcohol and she still wanted to go through the menu to see if there were some good non alcoholic drinks she could try.

"Are you okay with that?"

Roman asked as she swished the water in her glass.

Megan shrugged.

"Once I look through the menu I'd decide on what I want to drink. Why aren't you ordering wine?"

Roman shrugged.

"If you're going to be sober I might as well stay sober too."

Megan's cheeks warmed, her tummy seemed to be doing flip flops. Or was it the baby kicking?

It was still too early right?

"You don't have to."

"No. I want to."

"Are you ready to go through the menu?"

He asked and as she nodded.

They had Italian food and that was no doubt what Megan would be going for, she could smell the pasta already.

The waiter came back to take their order and the menu list and then he left again.

"I'm sorry you weren't able to see Matilda. Is there any way for you to contact her?"

Megan sighed.

"No. Not really. I guess I'll just have to wait."

"But I had such high hopes though."

"I felt like she was the key to solving many of my problems."

She added as she looked at Roman and he smiled.

"I know you talked to her a lot before you lost your memories and I've tried to tell you as much as I know. But don't you think a DNA test would help you out?"

"I mean... For starters it'll help me know if I'm the father of the baby. Who knows? Maybe you'll remember something after that."

Roman offered and Megan looked away.

He was kind of right.

He could be. But she also didn't want to admit that she was terrified of knowing the truth.

She knew it was an important crucial decision in her life but still she wasn't quite ready to face it yet.

"Waking up in the hospital... And not recognising you or Anthony and then learning that I was pregnant... All that was so traumatic for me."

"I don't know how to explain it... But it was like I was thrown into this new life with new people who kept telling me who I was and the things that I did that I don't even remember!"

She started chuckling and Roman sat upright, his blue eyes fixated on her beautiful hazel eyes.

"I just want to get that part of me back. More than anything."

"You don't know how it feels... Being told about all these things you did and stuff that happened and not having a fucking clue about it all."

"Megan..."

Roman said as he reached out for her. He hated seeing her down or sad and he would do anything to make her happy.

If she didn't want to do a DNA test, he wasn't going to force her to do one even though it killed him to know the truth.

He was itching to know the truth, but he was going to respect her decision anyways.

"I don't know how you feel. I wish there was a way to make you feel better about everything that's happening. Honestly."

"I suggested the DNA test because you remember what Dr Walter said, he can't guarantee your memories coming back if they're not back by now. And you might have to move on."

There was a long uncomfortable silence between two of them after Roman spoke.

The waiter came over and served their appetiser.

"What do you think?"

Megan asked as she sipped the glass of lemonade they brought her.

Roman furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"About what?"

"The baby. Do you think it could be yours?"

She asked.

He always asked himself the same question too.

If the baby could be his.

When they met during those three weeks she lost her memory, they were having a lot of sex. Sometimes it was protected and sometimes it was not.

He couldn't say for sure he was the father.

And since Anthony was in the picture too, Roman didn't know what transpired between them.

He didn't even want to think about it.

Nor could he ask Megan to explain.

She didn't have her memories yet.

But he knew her.

And the Megan he knew wasn't that type of girl.

Even though she was going through a rough time then, he doubted she would have ever done such a thing.
When he first found out about it, the thought of it alone has enraged him. And it made him lash out on her.

"I don't know Megan. I wish I could say I know but I don't."

"And I can't lie that question haunts me everyday."

He confessed and her eyes widened at the look on his face.

She didn't realise how much her indecision was costing him. She didn't care to think of how it would affect him or Anthony either.

Her mother was right.

She was selfish.

She shook her head and smiled.

"Let's dig in. I don't want our food to get too cold."

She said and Roman sighed.

"Alright then. We'll talk about this another time."

After a wonderful dinner that Roman and Megan fill with mundane talks about the Cafe, career goals and Roman's job, Roman urged Megan to check out the view at the Balcony so she could see the city at night from the boat.

Together they walked up to the balcony and watched the view in awe.

Megan smiled as she breathed in the fresh salty ocean air. It seemed so mundane but it was very refreshing.

She was having the best time of her life, on a romantic boat cruise with Roman next to her.

He hugged her from behind and Megan gasped a little in surprise but settled into his arms. One of the things she loved about Roman was how he smelled.

He smelled amazing, all the time. He had this woody, citrusy musky yet natural cologne that made him smell amazing.

And being enveloped in his arms only made her more giddy with excitement.

"I really really like you Megan."

He said softly into her ear, tickling her with his hot breath.

She held him tighter.

She didn't know what to say yet. He had left her breathless.

"I've liked you ever since I saw you in that club. And I had the best three weeks of my life with you."

"And even when everything happened and I tried to push you away... I find myself coming back, regardless of everything I said and did."

"I apologise for being a complete asshole while you were at the hospital after your accident."

Megan pulled away from him and turned to face him, looking up at him.

She caressed his face slowly.

"I know why you lashed out Roman... You don't have to apologise."

"I did some things I wasn't proud of either..."

She said and Roman raised his eyebrows

"If you're talking about you being drunk back then, know that I wouldn't have met you that night if you didn't go to the club to drown yourself in alcohol."

Megan chuckled.

"But seriously Roman. I'm not like that. And while it's killing me that I don't remember the things I did... I'm not exactly proud of a lot of things that I did and said."

"And meeting me?"

He asked huskily as he took a step closer to her.

They were so close.

Close enough to feel their hot breaths fanning each other. Close enough for Megan's hair to blow into Roman's face.

She lifted her hand to his face.

"I don't remember much, but I can feel that meeting you has been one of the best things to happen to me all my life."

Maybe time stopped when his lips met hers, but the flutter in her tummy only intensified. Megan’s heart pounded in her chest as her knees got weaker. She could only focus on how soft he felt against her mouth, how addictively he invaded all her senses.

It still wasn’t clear if she dreamed the moment to life, but there was raw emotion in the way his fingers curled around hers. Roman kept his eyes half open, sneaking a guilty peek at her every time he came back for air, just to make sure this wasn’t a product of his imagination.

He had forgotten how much he always craved her.

How much he needed her.

Until her lips met his.
Megan's Baby.
