Chapter 27.
She was making chicken Alfredo pasta, she had just finished draining the fettuccine pasta and she was about to start on the sauce when her phone started ringing.
It was Salma.
Oh Salma.
Salma was way past her due date and she and her boyfriend were expecting their baby for quite a while now. When she last spoke to her, she didn't think the baby was coming soon.
Maybe she had the baby already, Megan was so excited for them.
"Hello! Salma?"
"We have a baby girl Megan! She's so beautiful!!"
Salma cooed and Megan started grinning.
"Oh my God! When did that happen?!"
She exclaimed.
"Last night. I went into labour around 11 pm. We had her this morning and I had a very long nap. I decided to call you. Chloe is already on her way here!"
"Oh my God! That is so precious! I am so happy for you both. Did you pick out a name for her yet?"
She asked and Salma murmured.
"Yea! We did. Olivia Madison. "
"I love that name. How's Donald? Is he okay?"
"Oh he's just ecstatic. We're so happy."
"That's great Salma. I'm so happy for you. I think I might drop by later with some flowers and a baby gift. Is that okay with you?"
"Sure! It is. I'd love for you to meet Olivia."
The call ended briefly after that and Megan just couldn't stop grinning. Salma wanted a daughter so bad and she finally got one.
She and her boyfriend Donald were too scared to check the gender of the baby while she was pregnant thinking it was going to be another boy but Megan was glad that it all worked out for them.
She couldn't imagine how ecstatic they were both feeling.
She was bringing out a pack of chicken breasts when her doorbell rang.
In her excitement, she didn't check or ask who it was thinking it could be no one else but Roman and she opened the door.
She was surprised to see Anthony standing in front of her.
With a grey T-shirt that looked dirty and had paint splatters on it and jeans.
His ginger hair looked unruly and his light brown eyes had large purple bags under them. Megan doubted that he had been getting any sleep at all.
But the real question was how he knew where she lived?
It was scary to her.
Only Roman knew where her apartment was. Even her own mother had not gotten the time to visit. And she didn't have the address either.
"How did you find me?"
Megan said as she didn't move away from the door.
Anthony's eyes raked all over her. She was already showing and she was wearing a small pink romper suit.
"Well... Your mum.. She gave me your address."
He lied and Megan shook her head.
"Anthony, my mother doesn't know where I live. Yet."
He had not been expecting that answer from her. Frankly he had just lied hoping it would be true.
He laughed nervously.
"I had to find you. You know? I've been trying to reach you."
"Anthony how did you get here?"
She asked again, her grip on the door was tightening and she was frightened already.
"Is that really important? The important thing is that I'm here and we need to talk. About us!"
"About our baby!"
He said as he looked at her small belly. Megan instinctively put a hand on her belly, as if to protect her baby from him.
"We won't be doing any talking. Not until you tell me how you got here."
There was a short uncomfortable silence as Anthony cleared his throat.
"Will you at least let me in?"
He asked and she shook her head.
"No."
She didn't feel safe with me, she wasn't going to make the mistake of letting him in.
"I really needed to see you. So I followed you from work one day. I promise I just wanted to know that you were okay."
Megan's eyes widened in shock.
He was stalking her?!
Unbelievable.
"Anthony... You followed me from work?!"
"It's not as bad as it sounds. I really just wanted to make sure everything is okay with you and our baby."
"Our baby?!!"
"Megan I'm confident the baby is mine. And I'm sorry that I stalked you..."
"Sorry? Anthony right now I'm terrified of being next to you!"
She snapped and he became calm.
Megan was feeling very uneasy.
"I don't want to deal with you right now. And I don't think I ever want to deal with you for a very long time..."
There was only one thought that kept crossing her mind.
God I hope he isn't the father of my baby.
There was something about him, the way he acted around her and the way he treated her.
It made Megan feel unsafe, like he was obsessed with her.
Stalking her only made her fears more valid.
He had taken things to the next level and it terrified her.
Of what he could do.
"And if I'm the father of your baby? What are you going to do about that?"
"Are you going to deny me the rights to see my child?"
"What the fuck do you even see in that other guy? Because he's rich?"
He lashed out in anger.
"You know he doesn't really care about you! He'd drop you like a fucking hot potato when he gets to know the baby isn't his."
"I think it's time for you to leave Anthony."
Megan said as calmly as she could.
Anthony seemed to come to his senses after that, but it was too late, Megan already slammed the door in his face.
"What the fuck is going on with you bro? Your place looks like a mess."
Raj, Anthony's friend commented as he kicked a pack of chips out of his way. The coffee table was filled with packs of takeout and the floor was littered with empty packets of chips and cans of beer.
Anthony groaned. He had just come back from Megan's place after a very unsuccessful attempt to talk to her.
Frankly, he felt like he had lost all his chances to ever talk to her, she had looked so scared and terrified of him when he told her he followed her from the cafe.
He shouldn't have done that.
Now it had inevitably ruined things between them and frankly, it only made her more suspicious of him. If only he could turn back time and stop himself from doing the things he said and did.
"Is this about Megan? What is with you and this chick!!"
Raj snapped as he walked in front of Anthony.
"She won't talk to me anymore."
"What happened this time?"
Raj asked as he tried to clear up some of the mess Anthony made.
"I followed her from work to her new apartment and she didn't like that."
"No shit dude. That sounds very creepy."
"You don't understand Raj. I need to talk to her. I need to be with her. She might be pregnant with my baby."
He said as he buried his head in his hands.
"And it also might not be your baby so frankly I don't understand what all this is about dude."
"She has made it crystal clear that she doesn't like you that way. Give up before she gets a restraining order against you."
"The only way you'd be getting close to her again is if the baby's yours. And trust me if it isn't yours, then you should be very happy my friend."
Anthony stood up quickly.
Raj was right. The only way he was ever getting close to Megan was if the baby belonged to him.
That was all it took.
That was all he had to do.
Megan wouldn't agree to a DNA test though.
So that might be a little difficult.
But he had his ways.
And a plan.
"Raj. I need you to borrow me some money."
He said and Raj raised his eyebrows.
"What for?"
"It's really urgent. I need your help right now."
Raj sighed.
The things he had to do for his friends.
"How much?"
"And how does he know where you live?"
"He said he followed me from work and honestly I've never been so freaked out about something like this in my entire life."
"Why the hell would he do that?"
She asked as she turned to Roman who had a deep frown on his face.
"Do you need protection? I could get you a bodyguard... Just to be safe..."
"Oh no! No Roman. That's too much. I just... I needed to talk to you about it. That's all."
She said and he nodded.
"I think I need to talk to him. Man to man."
"Are you sure that's a good idea? He was very angry about you."
Megan said as she remembered the words he said when describing her and Roman's relationship.
She couldn't stop thinking about it.
"I don't care. I need to talk to him. He needs to learn how to take rejection very well."
"And I want him to know that if he tries anything as stupid as he did before, he'll have me to deal with."
"Thank you Roman. Thank you very much."
She had called him right away after Anthony left because she was scared and didn't know what to do.
When he arrived all her fears were dissipated but she was still visibly shaken.
After their dinner date which had left Megan ecstatic and blushing, they didn't talk much after that. They both left a lot of things unsaid and Roman got very busy with work.
"I have to go now. I wish I didn't have to leave you alone. But will you be okay all alone?"
He asked and she nodded.
"Yes. I will. Thank you for coming."
"Anytime. Just call me whenever you need me. I'll come running."
He whispered as he touched her shoulder.
Megan smiled softly, but she pulled away slowly, Anthony's words were still ringing in her ears.
"I guess I'll see you later."
She straightened.
Roman noticed the change in her mood but didn't make any comments. Instead, he walked out of her apartment with a smile on his face.
