Chapter 25.
Megan went back to the Four Season hotel like she had planned to check if Matilda was back from her break from work but couldn't find her.
The hotel attendant she met, Evie later confessed that Matilda had been fired after she failed to return on time.
"She asked for a few days off. And after that she never came back. The manager had her fired, we still haven't heard from her."
The attendant said and Megan sighed. She placed her hands on the counter.
"Listen, I really need to get in contact with her. I know you don't give out information of your staff but you'd have to understand it's urgent."
The attendant sighed and looked around.
"I can help you look up her address. But don't let anyone know I helped you."
She said as she glanced around again.
Megan nodded.
"Sure. I won't tell anyone."
A few moments later the attendant came back with a piece of paper.
"It has her address and her home number. I hope this helps."
"Thank you so much!"
After checking out the address, Megan didn't hesitate going to check out the apartment right away, she had taken a day off and the Cafe was going to be in good hands without her.
They could handle things without her.
She just really had to get her memories back.
And as soon as she could.
She was tired of waiting, Matilda could have something useful for her. Checking back her call logs, she had found out that she called Matilda at least twice in a week for at least four weeks straight. And it wasn't just short calls, they were really long calls.
This only made Megan more curious about what they had been talking about.
She had told Roman about her worries. He was also concerned about her not gaining her memories fast enough. Frequent trips to the doctor had indicated that nothing was medically wrong with Megan.
Dr Walter advised Megan to either live her life without those memories or wait and let it all happen naturally.
Both options weren't as favourable as to her as they should have been.
"Here we are. Apartment 6B."
Megan whispered as she rubbed her hand on her belly, a constant habit of hers.
She knocked on the door and got no response. Then she kept on knocking hoping Matilda would answer, but with every knock it got increasingly clear that nobody was home.
She had tried the home number too, it had been going to voicemail.
She sighed.
A door opened opposite Matilda's apartment and a woman with a baby on her hip walked out.
"Are you looking for Matilda?"
The woman with her hair in a scarf asked and Megan nodded.
"Yes. My name is Megan. I'm a friend of hers, I haven't heard from her in while."
The woman raised her eyebrows at Megan.
"If you're really a friend of Matilda then you should know she hasn't been home in a while."
The woman said and Megan shrugged
"I don't know. We stopped talking for a while and then I noticed she was gone. I've been trying to reach her."
The woman sighed.
"She went to Mexico. Her father had a really bad accident so she had to leave to take care of him."
Megan's hand flew to her mouth.
"I had no idea. Is he okay?"
She asked.
"I don't know. I haven't heard from her since then and she isn't picking any of my calls."
"Did she say when she'll be back?"
Megan asked hopefully and the woman scoffed.
"I'm just her next door neighbour. And no, she didn't tell me any of that."
"Now will you please stop banging on the door I'm trying to get my baby to sleep."
The woman said and Megan glanced at the baby who looked fussy.
"I'm so sorry. Thank you for your time."
She said as she started walking towards the elevator.
Well, it looked like there was no hope of her getting help from Matilda.
"Any luck?"
Roman asks as he picked up Megan's call while walking out of his board meeting that was still going on.
"No."
She said sadly and he sighed.
"What happened?"
"She travelled to Mexico. And she's not picking up her calls or anything. Her father was in an accident."
"That's terrible."
"I know! And I have no other way to reach her. I don't know what to do Roman."
"Calm down Megan. Remember what Dr Walter said. We'll figure something out okay?"
"Okay."
"Do you still want to go out tonight or you're not feeling up for it anymore?"
"We're still going out. Don't you worry about that."
"Great! I'll call you when I'm done at the office."
After briefly dropping by at the cafe to check if everything was going well and close for the day, Megan went to her new apartment to look for what to wear.
She had not gotten any new clothes she she had to make do with what she had but she still wanted to look as sexy and fashionable as possible.
She found a navy blue short dress with a nice A line skirt. It was free enough and hid most of her belly in the folds of fabric. The top of the dress was her favourite part of it. It was off the shoulder and it fit her perfectly.
She would have to do something about her hair, the last time she had worn the dress her hair had looked perfect with it's curls.
She removed her hair from the bun and ran her hands through it. Something about pregnancy had made it even more thicker and shinier. And even though she loved how she always looked with long hair, she was desperately in need of an haircut. She wondered how she would look with shoulder length hair.
Twenty minutes later, Megan was dressed and early. She had skipped makeup because she was too tired to do a face full of makeup so she stuck to the basics like mascara and lipstick.
Her eyebrows were always near to perfect and required little grooming except for a bit of gel. It was one of her best assets, growing up she always had the perfect eyebrows.
She picked low heels that matched the dress perfectly after failing to find sandals that would go with the dress.
She was spraying on perfume when she heard the doorbell.
She did a little twirl and went to the door.
Roman was standing at the door with a bouquet of the prettiest red roses she had ever seen and a box of what seemed to be chocolate.
He looked amazing!
He was wearing a blue shirt under his tuxedo that matched the cold blue intensity of his eyes. His hair looked a few inches shorter. It looked nice on him but Megan knew he would look better if he grew out his hair longer.
"You look stunning."
He said as he stood in front of her with a sheepish smile. His eyes were fixated on hers.
He didn't even know where to look but Megan had certainly put in the effort to look every bit as good as she always did.
Her hair was lovely and swept to her left side. The dress which was off the shoulder showed ample amount of her creamy skin and neck. And Roman absolutely loved the delicate earring dangling from one of her ears.
The gown itself was simple and elegant and as Roman looked further down he noticed that it was hiding most of her bump.
He finally looked at shoes and saw that she was wearing low heels which gave a glimpse of her shell pink toenails.
He wasn't sure he had a foot fetish but Roman had a thing for pretty feet and painted toenails.
"These are yours. Freshly picked."
He said as he handed her the flowers.
"They're very pretty."
Megan said as she collected the flowers from him and led him in.
They walked towards her kitchen where she dropped the flowers on the counter after sniffing them and Roman handed her the box of chocolates.
"La Maison has one of the best chocolates I've ever tasted and I would love you to try it out."
He said as he handed her the box of chocolate and Megan raised her eyebrows but smiled at him.
She remembered telling him that she was craving chocolates a while ago, was that why he was gifting her with a very expensive box of chocolate?
"I'm happy to try them out."
"So, where are we having dinner today?"
"Ever had dinner on a boat cruise?"
He asked and Megan shook her head.
She was bursting with excitement just thinking about the possibilities of where Roman was taking her.
"No. I haven't. I guess I'm about to find out right?"
She asked and he nodded.
"Exactly. So, I suggest we don't waste more time and get to it right away."
Megan nodded.
"Right! I can't wait."
