Chapter 29.
As the city came out of the darkness of night, Roman and Megan crossed the Seine river in silence and quiet joy.
She loved the boat cruise. At night the river was breathtakingly beautiful to watch and the ambience at the cruise was everything.
Paris was also very beautiful at night and Megan couldn't stop beaming throughout the entire boat ride, Roman was also keen on showing her the different tourist attractions as they crossed the river.
They had arrived at France at noon and after lodging in their hotel and having a quick supper, Roman had dragged her out to explore the city with him.
She didn't complain either, she was eager to see the whole of the city, as many of it as she could see in their one week trip.
Besides she wanted to see the city at night, the lights looked beautiful at night.
Without the traffic they walked right down the centre of the street and not far away lay The Eiffel Tower, like a skeleton of metal projecting up into a sky that was rapidly becoming blue.
She had only seen the Eiffel tower in pictures and movies, never in real life. Finally looking up at it, she could understand the appeal. She knew why people loved it and she loved it too.
She couldn't wait to check it out.
"What do you think?"
Roman asked as they walked down the street with Megan beaming widely.
"I love it!"
"I never imagined that I'd actually be in Paris. Honestly I haven't been to that many places."
"Really? Well I'm glad you could see it. Paris does have it's charm."
Roman commended as he held Megan's hand tightly.
"Are you okay?"
Roman asked and Megan nodded her head.
"I'm great! Why do you ask?"
Roman shrugged as he touched Megan's cheeks. Her cheeks had a slight pink colour to them, probably from the chilly midnight air.
"I just wanted to be sure that you're enjoying yourself."
Megan laughed. He had no idea how happy he had made her by taking her along with him to Paris.
No freaking idea!
She needed the holiday, she needed the break.
More than anything.
It was so nice getting out of her comfort zone. And nice that she didn't have to worry about work or any other thing.
The night air was a bit chilly so Roman was dressed comfortably and also with a scarf and a coat. Megan had also taken along her coat, but she didn't bring any scarf along with her.
"Where to now?"
Megan asked as they started walking down the street.
Roman turned to look at her with a smile on his face.
"We're going to see the Eiffel tower."
"Really?!"
"Yes! We really are. It's perfect at night and we have a long list of places to visit so we might as well go now and check it out."
Roman made sure they went all the way to the top of the tower, stopping only when Megan felt like checking out one of the many souvenir shops or when her eyes caught something.
When they finally got to the top of the tower she couldn't help but hold her breath. It was simply breathtaking.
Lit by more than three hundred spotlights arranged along its girders, the tower had a gold sheen as soon as night fell. Cones of light highlighted the structure and revealed it in a new light, from the level they were, where the tower's curved silhouette serves up an unbeatable view.
Visiting the Eiffel Tower at night was one of the best decisions they had made.
It allowed them to observe the movements of the light beam emitted by the beacon at the top of the tower. It had a 50-mile range that illuminated the clouds and the city in its hypnotic sweep.
"What do you think?"
Roman asked as he looked at Megan who was smiling at the scenery. Her dark hair was blowing gently in the wind and her cheeks looked rosy.
She looked so damn beautiful and Roman resisted the urge to ruin the moment and kiss her.
Megan sighed.
"I've never seen anything like it. It's so pretty."
She gushed out as she held one hand to her belly while the other hand held Roman, she had a mild fear of heights but she had not hesitated climbing the tower, nor did she even regret it.
"You can see almost everything from here!"
"There you'll see The Arc de Triomphe, Opéra Garnier, the Louvre and Notre Dame de Paris!"
Roman said as he pointed out each and every one of them to her.
Megan kept nodding her head as she followed his fingers as they showed her each and every one of the places he kept talking about.
"I should take a picture."
Megan said as she brought out her phone and started taking pictures of the view.
She turned to Roman after a while and beckoned him towards her.
"Come on! Let's take a selfie together."
Roman moved closer to her and she put the camera in front of them.
She didn't think they had taken any pictures before together and for a long time she didn't remember when last she had taken a photo of herself.
She used to enjoy taking so many photos. Of everything.
After she her breakup and amnesia, she didn't really take any photos anymore.
"I have to ask you something."
Roman finally said as his voice became very serious.
The smile fell from Megan's face and she suddenly became very concerned.
"What's up?"
She asked, trying to sound casual.
"It's nothing really... It's just that I really love being with you."
Roman said and Megan smiled.
"And I know we didn't start things properly... We made quite a lot of mistakes and a lot of things didn't really go as planned."
He held her hand and entwined her fingers with his. Megan lowered her eyes lids as her heart beat faster, she couldn't bear to look at his alarmingly blue eyes.
She wasn't quite prepared to get lost in them.
"But I want you to know, I've always felt the same way about you."
"Everyday... More and more I find myself falling in love with you. And I can't help it Megan, I really can't."
His voice sounded broken for a while and Megan blinked back tears. She tried to smile.
"I've not had it easy with relationships. And I've always tried to guard my heart as much as I can. With you that was the complete opposite. I let my guard down. And even when I was mad at you and promised myself that I wasn't going to come back to you, I somehow found myself crawling back to you."
"And believe me. I wish this had to do with the baby. But it really doesn't. I don't even care if the baby isn't mine. I just really want you, I want you all to myself."
"Roman..."
Megan started.
She was dumbfounded.
Here he was laying everything bare to her, talking to her about his feelings.
"I know this is hard for you too. I know you want to get your memories back first. And I also know you want the best for the baby."
"But trust me, I remember us before you lost your memory and we were perfect. Absolutely perfect."
Megan chuckled.
"And the times we had together back then... Oh damn! I only wish you can remember them Megan. I really wish you can."
He said and Megan smiled.
She wished she could too.
Because with Roman everything felt right, it felt natural.
Her body knew him, she knew him.
She just knew that they must have connected on a level that she had never connected with anyone before.
"Roman... Are you sure about this? I mean... This baby might not be yours and I don't want to ever put you in such a situation."
Roman nodded.
"I know. What are the odds? That it's Anthony's baby? I'm fine with it as long as you are."
She was more than fine with it, she agreed with it. She knew there would be nothing between her and Anthony.
They would never get romantically involved.
That was just how it was
She didn't see herself with him, even if he might be the father of her baby.
It was Roman. He was the one she could see herself with.
"I want you Roman. It's you."
