Chapter 38
Mrs Harrington needed a sit and a glass of water when she was done.
"Megan. Why didn't you say anything?!"
She said and Megan sighed.
She placed her hand on her chest, trying to calm herself while Megan tended to her.
"I'm so sorry. I was going to, I just didn't know how to say it. Besides, I thought Roman was in a relationship and I didn't want to ruin that."
"You wouldn't have been ruining anything even if he was in one, he's the father of the child he deserves to know."
"Do you know how he has been these past few months?"
She asked and Megan shook her head.
"He buries himself in work to avoid his problems and feelings. He probably spends his nights thinking about you and he has been so unhappy. So, so unhappy Megan."
"I'm sorry... I didn't know..."
"You didn't. Yes. I know you didn't. But perhaps if you had tried considering his feelings first, you'd have known. I know he'd have loved to be there for you all through everything."
Mrs Harrington sighed.
"You have to tell him. Right away."
She said and Megan nodded.
"I will."
"I mean right away Megan. Right away. He's always at work, so that's the best place to find him."
"Thank you Mrs Harrington."
Mrs Harrington nodded.
She smiled as she looked at Megan.
"I've always wanted a girl."
She said softly.
"You can feel her if you want, she moves around a lot."
Megan said as she held her belly.
Mrs Harrington looked happy enough and relieved that Megan even offered.
Slowly, she placed a hand on Megan's belly and her hand was in for a few seconds just enough for the baby to kick.
"Ohhhh..."
Mrs Harrington sighed.
"She's precious."
"Have you picked out any names yet?"
Megan shrugged.
"I have some in mind but now I'm hoping Roman and I get to pick one together."
"That's great! I'm sure he'll be so excited when he finally learns that the baby is his."
********
The next morning, Megan had finally taken a day off work like her boss had demanded. But she had other plans, she was going to see Roman. Although she felt sore all over, like she felt for some days now, she packed her baby bag into her new car, just in case of emergencies.
Although she had been lugging around the bag for weeks with really nothing to show for it.
At Roman's company, the secretary was not convinced that she knew Roman, and the woman claimed that he was in a meeting. Megan decided she was going to wait.
"I'll wait here."
She said as she pointed to the seats and the Secretary frowned.
"He might be there for a while."
Megan shrugged.
"Yea. I don't really care."
She said.
She smoothed her hair.
She had tried to look presentable. As presentable as a nine months pregnancy woman would look. She had recently got a new haircut and she wondered if Roman would like it.
Her hair was now shoulder length with bangs. She didn't think she'd look good in bangs, but she did.
She was wearing sweatpants, no other pants seemed to be as comfortable. A large grey sweatpants with a matching T-shirt and a long grey coat.
Her back was aching.
The seats were pretty uncomfortable.
A tall man in a blue suit passed by and paused when he saw her. Megan ignored him, everyone at the company was acting like they hadn't seen a pregnant woman before.
He turned to the secretary and then Megan.
"Hello Ma'am. May I help you?"
He asked and Megan nodded.
"I'm looking for Roman Harrington. She said he's in a meeting and I'm waiting for him."
The man nodded.
"I see... And who might you be?"
"Megan Andrews."
She replied curtly.
He nodded. He looked like he knew her.
"I'm Phillip. Does Roman know you're coming?"
He asked and Megan shook her head.
"No, he doesn't. But he'd want to hear what I have to say."
She replied and Phillip raised an eyebrow.
"What could you possibly have to say to him?"
He fired back and Megan narrowed her eyes at him.
Who was this guy and why was he so interested. His name and face was vaguely familiar but Megan couldn't really place it.
Oh wait!
He was a friend of Roman's.
Sure, Roman has spoken about him and she had seen him maybe once but she didn't think they've been properly introduced yet.
"That's my business with him."
The man paused, as if contemplating what to do with her.
"You should wait in his office then."
He said as he pointed to the direction.
The Secretary looked furious.
"But sir..."
She butted in and Phillip raised his hand.
"Don't worry. Roman won't mind."
He said.
Phillip led Megan to Roman's office, where the seats at least looked more comfortable.
"Thanks."
She murmured as she plopped into a sofa.
She let out a sigh of relief. That was much better.
Phillip was looking at her strangely.
"You're Roman's friend."
She said and he nodded.
"I don't know what you think of me and frankly I don't care but stop looking at me like that."
She said and he smirked. He looked taken aback at first.
"I'm just curious."
"About?"
"What exactly is so special about you that has Roman so wound up."
Megan shrugged.
"We can't help it who we fall for..."
She said. Talking more about herself than answering the question.
"Oh really? I'm sure it's super easy to fall for Roman. I mean what's not to like?"
He said as he pointed all around the luxurious office.
Megan smiled and shook her head.
"You're not very smart are you?"
The smile fell off his face.
"If you know well enough about Roman and I you'd know that when he came back after I had lost my memory I didn't like him, especially when he was insinuating the very same thing you're insinuating. I would have been content with us going our separate ways, he was the one who came back."
"And now you're here."
Phillip said and Megan nodded.
"Yes. Now I'm here."
She wasn't going to tell him why, but he seemed to be working hard at guessing.
The two of them were engaging in an epic stare down when the door quietly opened.
"Megan?"
Roman called and Megan's eyes quickly darted to his side.
Looking at him made her feel jittery. Suddenly her stomach started to turn and her heart was beating as fast as it could.
He looked at Phillip briefly. Phillip left the room.
"Wow. You look great."
He said and Megan slowly stood up and blushed.
"Yea. Don't lie. I look like a whale."
She said and he swallowed hard.
"I thought you'd have given birth by now. I remember your due date was a week ago."
He even remembered her due date???
"I would have called but then I didn't want to disturb you and Anthony."
He said as he moved closer to her.
Megan scoffed.
"No, the baby isn't here yet. She's taking her sweet time."
Roman smiled.
They were both looking at each other for what seemed to be eternity before Roman broke the silence.
"I haven't stopped thinking about you."
"Really?"
Her eyes lit up.
"I thought that with all that happened you'd have moved on..."
Roman smiled.
"I guess I should have but it's hard to move on when you're still holding on."
"I didn't stop thinking about you too."
She whispered and Roman's breath hitched.
He nodded.
"I had thought that with the baby and all, you and Anthony would have made it work."
"No. Anthony is a creep and a liar. I got a restraining order against him two months ago."
"What?"
"What happened?"
He asked as he led Megan back to the couch and they both sat down. Megan's heart felt warm at his touch and she smiled.
"He lied. He did so many things wrong Roman, I don't even know where to start..."
"He faked the DNA tests, he sent me a photo of you and some blonde claiming you're dating her, he lied to me about us sleeping together the first time we met, he lied about so many things."
"Wait? What?"
Roman said and Megan sighed.
Slowly, she explained everything from the beginning to the end.
Roman's face hardened each time she mentioned Anthony and his hands were tightened into fists by the time she was done.
"When were you planning on telling me about the baby?"
He asked quietly and Megan shrugged.
"I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I was wrong."
"I was going to tell you... I swear I was."
"So, that day when I was in your apartment, you knew?"
He asked and she nodded.
"I knew."
"Megan!"
Roman sighed as he buried his hands into his hair.
"I know that you're angry and I understand that you're probably mad at me and wouldn't want anything to do with me again..."
She started saying with tears streaming down her eyes.
Roman raised his head and slowly shook his head.
"I'm mad. Yes. But that doesn't mean I don't want anything to do with you. Never!!"
"Really?"
Megan said and he nodded.
"Yes. I told you, I haven't been able to get you out of my mind."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner..."
Roman nodded.
"It's okay. I guess in a way I understand why you were a bit hesitant to tell me. But now you're here."
"That's all that matters."
He said as he looked at her belly.
Megan smiled.
"She's due anytime soon. She's just taking her sweet time."
Megan said and Roman nodded.
"Can I?"
He asked and Megan nodded.
"Yes."
Roman placed his hands on her belly, he smiled and then slowly he brought his face closer to her bump, whispering softly. Tears wet Megan's eyes and blurred her vision, she blinked it away.
Suddenly she felt a sharp pain at her back, so sharp she gasped in pain.
"Are you okay?"
Roman asked and Megan was still nodding when she felt something wet and slippery rush down her legs.
"I think the baby's coming."
She said as calmly as she could muster and Roman nodded.
