Chapter 30
Their trip had been mostly enjoyable. Although Megan couldn’t deny she had way more fun than Roman because he had been working, he had to meet some very important clients for the project he was working on. But he showed her as much of Paris as he could.
After their magical romantic moment at the Eiffel tower where he had asked her to be his girlfriend, Megan was ecstatic as well as nervous that she might have made the wrong decision.
But, she was also over the moon. Being with Roman made her very happy.
Although she had told him that they needed to take things slow since she was pregnant with possibly another man’s child with no memory of whom the father was and Roman had agreed. He had simply agreed and they had even spent more time together.
She knew their time in Paris would be much different from how their time together in New York would be because they would have to face reality but she did know that together they would face whatever comes at them.
After their trip, the rest of her week had gone pretty smoothly. She had finally gotten the chance to meet Olivia Madison, Salma’s little daughter and she couldn’t help but wonder if she would be blessed with a little daughter too. She wouldn’t know until her next ultrasound though. Olivia Madison was a very cute baby, but also quite loud. Salma and her partner looked like zombies when Megan walked in. It was as if the baby was sucking the life out of them. Generally, that was how newborns were and Megan knew that the newborn stage was one of the hardest, she wasn’t sure she was looking forward to it.
She also wasn’t sure if she would go through it alone.
“Table three needs a refill!!”
She called out from the counter as she wiped down on the table with a napkin. She loved helping out at the coffee shop these days. Mostly because it kept her back from being so sore from sitting down for the most part of the day.
“Another phone call from Anthony.”
George her employee said as he brought out her phone that was vibrating again.
Megan rolled her eyes.
“Ignore. We’re swamped, I’ll call him back.”
She did feel a bit guilty for ignoring him the fifth time in the day but she had some things she wanted to tell him about, but she was still working and it wasn’t the appropriate time yet.
She wanted to tell him about Roman and how they had started dating already. She had to find a gentle way to break it to him.
She was so deep in thoughts that she didn’t notice when Mrs Harrington walked inside.
Mrs Harrington had not told Megan that she was going to be visiting, but she was in New York visiting and she thought she’d pay her cafe a visit hoping she was still working there. Although her son Roman had refused to divulge any details about her, he did state that it was complicated and Mrs Harrington was determined to find out exactly what he meant about that.
‘’Oh my God! Mrs Harrington!”
She exclaimed and she walked towards the woman. Their trip in Paris had also helped Megan recognize how Romans mother looked like and why she found the lady who visited the cafe months ago so familiar. She was Roman’s mother.
And if Roman had not showed her a picture of his mother she would still have no idea who she was.
Mrs Harrington's eyes widened as she sat next to the window.
“Megan Andrews I believe. I suppose my son must have told you about me then.”
Megan nodded.
“That he certainly did Mrs Harrington. Can I get you anything?”
“Oh no! Not yet! Not when we have so much to talk about. Will you seat with me for a while?”
“Sure! That will be no problem at all”
Megan said as she slipped in the chair directly opposite to Roman’s mother.
Mrs Harrington’s eyes travelled to Megan’s midsection and she smiled. Megan had not realized how much Roman really looked like his mother till she was sitting next to him. The woman was an absolute beauty.
“Aha! I can see that you're showing already. How’s the baby doing?”
Megan nodded.
“The baby's doing really good. I recently started showing a couple of weeks ago.”
“That’s great! Pregnancy can be a beautiful thing. It isn't really my thing though.”
“Oh why’s that?”
Megan asked and Mrs Harrington smiled nervously.
“I had a very difficult pregnancy and an even worse labour. That’s one of the reason why I didn’t have anymore children after Roman. I really just couldn’t find it in me to get pregnant again.”
The woman looked out the window as she shook her head wearily.
“I suppose you could say I was traumatized. Thankfully my husband didn’t care much for children either, one was more than enough for him.”
Megan smiled gently and reached out for Mrs Harrington’s warm hands.
“I’m really sorry you had to go through all of that.”
“Oh that's alright. Thank you anyways. I was in town and I decided to come check up on you. Roman told me some interesting things about what’s going on between the two of you.”
Megan started to blush as she lowered her eyes.
“Good things I hope.”
She smiled.
“Only good things. I'm sorry the first time we met I didn’t properly introduce myself, I was just trying to find out who you were without you knowing who I am.”
Megan nodded.
“That’s okay ma'am. You were a pretty good company too so no need to apologize.”
Few seconds later the two women were distracted by Mrs Harrington’s phone. She smiled at it at turned to Megan.
“That’s Roman, he’s probably wondering where I’ve went. I’ll give him a call.”
At that precise moment, Anthony walks into the coffee shop and Megan rolled her eyes as she spotted him.
“Excuse me for a second.”
She murmured as she stood up to confront him.
“What are you doing here? Anthony, I’m busy and you need to leave.”
Anthony frowned but then smiled slightly.
He looked around the shop and saw that there were a lot of people in it. He didn’t want to draw too much attention to the both of them.
“I guess I’ll see you later then.”
He walked out of the shop just as soon as he came in and Megan was somehow relieved that he had not caused a scene or done whatever. But it also made her worried that he might have something up his sleeves.
Mrs Harrington and Megan talked for a while about a lot of stuffs before the woman left. Megan didn't give her too much details about what was going on with her and Roman, but she did tell her about their trip to Paris and they talked about other topics they enjoyed talking about.
“’I’ve never watched this before. Do you think we could try it out?”
Roman said as he pointed to a movie on the screen and Megan smiled. There were so many movies Roman had not seen and she wondered if it was due to the fact that he was a busy CEO or he was just not a movie person.
“You haven't watched a lot of movies, is this because you're always at work or you're just not a Netflix person?”
Roman frowned his face in thoughts, he had not genuinely thought about it, but he did know that one of the reasons would be the fact that he didn’t have the time. His hobbies were different and even while he was dating, Netflix and chill was wasn’t something most of his ex- girlfriends enjoyed. They enjoyed fine dining and luxury trips.
“Honestly I think its a little of both.”
The doorbell rang and Roman turned to Megan.
“Are you expecting someone? I didn’t expect the food to get here so early.”
“I don’t think it should get here so early. But you can check. I'm not expecting anyone.”
Roman walked to the door to answer it and frowned when he saw Anthony at the door. He was about to slam the door when Anthony stopped him.
“Wait! I have something really important to show Megan!”
“Let me in”
He forced his way in and Megan walked up to him.
“What the hell are you doing here? Get out.”
She snapped and he refused.
“I’m not going anywhere. You’d want to see this.”
“Listen, I’m going to have to call the cops.”
Roman said as he walked towards the coffee table to pick up his phone while Anthony waved a piece of paper in front of Megan.
“What the hell is that?”
She asked as she calmed down a bit.
Anthony shrugged as he straightened himself up.
“You didn’t want to take a DNA test. So I took the liberty of taking one myself.”
“And it turns out that I’m right. The baby is mine.”
Those words. Megan felt like her world had shattered.
“What?!!!”
Roman exclaimed.
