Chapter 9.

An interview, that wasn't going to be so hard. Megan thought as she looked into her closet looking for the appropriate clothes to wear. She wanted to look smart enough. The cafe manager job was the only job that they managed to call her back for an interview. She had to get it.

She was disappointed she didn't get as many offers as she thought she would be getting but she could also understood why. Her resume wasn't exactly that impressive and working at Ink Co, her last job was the best job she had in a while, before that it had mostly been a series of dead end jobs and all.

She was lucky enough to even get an interview.

There was a lovely emerald green gown at the back of her closet that paired well with a black jacket she owned. It was going to be the perfect fit. She thought as she examined herself in the mirror, her hair was a bird's nest. She had a lot of getting ready to do.

Her mother had called her the night before, right after Anthony had left. They didn't have much to talk about, she just wanted to check up on her and ask if she had gotten her memory back. Which she hadn't and her mother certainly didn't sound too disappointed about it. In her exact words, she believed not remembering would help Megan deal with whatever guilt she would feel later.

From the sound of her mother's voice ah could tell that she was drunk and having a lot of fun in Tahiti with her new boyfriend.

She wished she could at least feel so comfortable and free, without thinking about what the future held for her.

Anthony had said a lot of sweet things the night they talked but Megan was too weary of him. He was too nice and there was so much she didn't  know about him. And he claimed that they had a special connection which rivaled what she had with Roman, one which Megan had no recollection of.

She knew it had to do with her amnesia, but she was ready to take things slow. And with the DNA test approaching, she didn't want to get too close to him.

He was only trying to help her, she knew that. But she wasn't desperately in need of his help.

She was a grown woman who could handle her problems no matter how big they were.

After an hour Megan was dressed and ready, she decided to skip breakfast since the simple act of opening up her fridge had made her nauseous.

Nausea was a common sign of pregnancy, but she was hoping she wasn't going to experience it, especially since her mother didn't when she was pregnant with her.

She only left the house with a juicy red apple hoping it would give her enough strength to get through the morning.

She had left her apartment with minimal make up, she was too tired to do a full face and she didn't want to appear intimidating, she wanted to look as professional as possible.

The coffee shop was quaint and pretty. Cloistered in between a bakery and mini boutique it was the perfect air of scenery even with the noise of the city at the background.

It was beautiful. It had outdoor tables where a few customers were enjoying their coffee in the open air. Megan definitely felt nervous. It was her first interview in a long time at a field she didn't know much about.

She was a coffee drinker, but she wouldn't say she was crazy about coffee. She took her own coffee plain, with a few lumps of sugar. And even after almost tasting all the Starbucks coffee flavours, she still preferred it plain.

Walking into the coffee shop, she found the atmosphere even more warm and cozy than outside. she could imagine herself working in such a nice place, it was perfect, in every sense.

She was still looking around for a less busy waiter or waitress to call when someone tapped on her arm. she quickly turned back, sceptical at first then relaxing when she saw Anthony grinning.

He was dressed in a dark blue suit with a polka dot tie and he also had a suitcase in his hands. He looked quite dashing.

"Anthony! I didn't know I'd run into you here."

She forced a smile and Anthony shrugged.

"Me neither. I just came to get a cup of coffee before meeting with a client."

"Oh! Okay. That's good."

"And you? Tell me you didn't come all the way from Manhattan for coffee?"

He exclaimed and Megan rolled her eyes

"No! Of course I didn't. I'm here for an interview."

"Oh! Here?"

He asked with confusion on his face and Megan nodded.

"Yes! Here. They're looking to hire a new manager. And I think I'd be perfect for the role."

Well... They were the only ones that called her back for an interview. To be honest it was her only logical option. Apart from that it was back to job hunting.

"Are you sure about this? I mean with everything going on?"

"Oh Anthony! Why wouldn't I? I lost my job weeks ago. I need to find another job and this is available and not too far from home so I think its a win win."

"I know. I just don't think you should be stressing yourself at a time like this."

Megan scoffed.

"Thanks... But I'll be fine. Honestly."

"Okay. My table's over there if you want to talk. That is if you're still here before I leave."

She shrugged as she gained the attention of a waiter and waved for her to come over, eager to leave Anthony's presence.

Okay. I'll keep that in mind."

"I'm here for the job interview. I'm Megan Andrews. I got the email about the interview yesterday."

"Oh! well, you're here early!"

The waiter said and Megan smiled.

"Yes, I love to keep to time."

She lied through her teeth and the waiter nodded.

"The office is just around the back, I'll tell Mrs Seymour you're here."

"I hope you don't mind waiting a while..."

"Oh no! I don't. As long as I don't have too wait too long."

Megan added nervously.

"I assure you, you won't. I'll be right back."

Megan looked around the cozy cafe and found an empty seat in a table and she slipped into it trying very hard to avoid the eyes of Anthony. She really wasn't ready to listen to another long conversation. She wasn't in the mood.

She just wanted to get over the interview and get the job at least.

The Waiter came back a few minutes later.

"Mrs Seymour will see you now."

She said and Megan smiled.

"Oh thank you."

She quickly glanced at Anthony who gave her a thumbs up.

The office was larger then she had expected. And very organised. the desk was uncluttered with only a single computer on it and a file. The woman behind the desk was old.

She looked to be around her late sixties. Her black hair sprinkled with grey and in a high bun. She had large glasses that hung low on her nose and she was wearing blood red lipstick.

"Good morning Ma'am. I'm Ms Megan Andrews."

"Pleasure to meet you Ms Andrews. I'm extremely impressed you managed to make it here very early."

Megan blushed.

"I happen to be very punctual."

The woman raised her eyebrows.

"Well, it's quite an impressive trait when you're running a coffee shop."

"Now, I don't really have time for silly questions or semantics. This is going to be quick."

The woman said in a serious voice and Megan nodded.

"Okay Ma'am."

"Good. I've checked out your resume. Of course, you're not exactly the most qualified person I'd want as manager. But there's room to learn."

"Oh! Yes. Absolutely."

"So, Your job is to simply supervise everything that goes on in the coffee shop."

"The first few days I will be showing you around and telling how everything is done do you understand?"

"Yes of course I understand Mrs Seymour. I'm ready for whatever you have planned for me."

They talked for a few more minutes. with Mrs Seymour examining her resume and asking her routine questions, Megan answered every question flawlessly, she was very prepared. They also discussed her pay and it was much more better than expected. Mostly because she was going to also be working on the weekend too.

The cafe was a very busy one especially since it was right in the centre of the city, a lot of people depended on it for their daily coffee so the morning rush was always crazy according to Mrs Seymour.

"I'm glad we're on the same page Mrs Andrews. You're hired!"

Megan's eyes widened. That fast?

"Wait! Are you being serious?"

"Oh yes! Yes I am. I'm going on a trip in a few days and I wanted to settle this as quickly as possible."

"Thank you so much Mrs Seymour! I promise I won't let you down."

"Oh I know you won't. I hope you don't mind starting today? I want to show you around and have you sign a few papers."

Megan literally had nothing to do at home than go back and mope some more about her loss of memory.

"Oh I don't mind! I'd absolutely love to start today!"

"Excellent!"

Mrs Seymour said as she clapped her hands in excitement.

"Come on now! Let me show you around."

Megan stood up and walked with the woman, hoping that Anthony had left. There was no reason for him to still be waiting for her, at least not when she had a job to do.

Fortunately he had left and the lovely Mrs Seymour introduced her to the staff.

After a relatively short day at work learning about her new job, Megan got a call from Roman who told her he was on her way to see her. Her heart skipped a beat as she wondered what exactly he wanted to see her for.

Their last meeting didn't exactly go well and she was very sceptical about having another meeting with him. Especially when it seemed like he could care less about her predicament.

Maybe he wanted to apologise or reschedule the doctor's appointment.

But she really couldn't fathom why he wanted to see her.

"What was so important?"

She asked as she stepped in front of her apartment, Roman was already waiting for her. His hands were in the pockets of his grey coat and his black hair fell over his face.

"I just needed to talk to you briefly about something."

"And you couldn't tell me over the phone?"

She asked as she jammed her key into her keyhole to open her door.

"I could. But it's partly because I wanted to apologise for what I did and said earlier."

Megan raised her eyebrow.

"Hmm. Go on"

She said inviting him in.

"I'm sorry if my words offended you. I didn't intend for them to hurt you."

"What else?"

Megan asked as she feigned disinterest.

"And I figured sooner or later I have to make some things clear about this whole situation and all."

Megan scoffed.

It was funny how he found it hard to even address the fact that she was pregnant properly. She didn't have a situation, she was simply pregnant.

"Why don't we wait for the DNA test?"

Roman shook his head.

"No, this simply cannot wait."
Megan's Baby.
