Chapter 34
Out of respect and courtesy of his friend Phillip, Roman had invited Lydia out on a date. He had also talked to his mother, who had told him that he and Megan needed to talk, to give him bit of closure.
His mother was right, they did need closure. He needed to talk to her. He wasn't sure of what he was going to say or if she was even going to speak to him but he believed it was the least he could do.
He was getting ready for his date, Lydia was a smart, lovely woman and if she could help him stop thinking about Megan like Phillip had said he fully intended on taking that opportunity.
Every minute he was plagued with memories of Megan, their past and their present memories. He wondered how she was doing. He was relieved that she had not asked him to take back the apartment he gave her because he believed that she truly needed it, even more thn she realised.
He tried to conjure up an image of how she would be and then he quickly decided against it, it was best that he let go of the past.
"You look lovely tonight."
Roman complimented as he helped Lydia to a seat. He was right, she was.
She was wearing a beautiful eye catching shimmery gold dress and her blonde hair fell in long waves behind her back. He couldn't help but notice how the dress had a long thigh high slit and plunging neckline but his eyes didn't linger on them for too long.
"You too. I'm glad we finally get a chance to be alone together. I was beginning to think you didn't like me or something."
She said and Roman chuckled lightly as he signaled the waiter.
"Wel, I've been swamped with work lately, so there's been a whole lot to do."
Lydia nodded her head.
"Oh I'm sure you do, as a CEO of such a large company I assumed you'll barely have time for youself or the ones you love."
"Well, I like to make time for the important things."
He replied. The waiter came back to their table and they told him their order, they continued making small talk right after but Roman's attention was divided.
He tried to concentrate but he found himself distracted every second.
"Are you okay?"
Lydia asked with growing concern as she set her glass of wine down.
Roma nodded as he forced a smile.
"Of course, I must be a little tired. Please go on."
He said but Lydia didn't, he wasnt paying attention to her, she could tell that there was something on his mind. And it was starting to look like she was the only one interested in having the dinner. She had done everything that Phillip had suggested that she did. She had talked about his favourite topics, his childhood, excluding his father knowing that was a sensistive topic as his father had died a long time ago and she had talked about his interests.
But he didnt seem to care, he kept zoning out every second and it was starting to get frustrating considering the time, effort and energy she had put in preparing for the dinner. She wanted Roman Harrington, but he didn't seem to want her.
"Is there something wrong? It feels like you're not here."
"I'm really sorry Lydia. It's really not your fault. I'm just finding it hard to concentrate."
He apologised and Lydia nodded.
"Phillip told me you just got out of a relationship or something of the sorts with someone else."
Roman gulped hard, he didn't realise that Phillip had told her so much about him, why did he?
He wondered as he nodded his head.
Lydia sighed.
"I don't know, maybe you're not ready to be in another relationship yet."
Well, she was right, Roman thought as he nodded.
'Yes. I guess you're right. I'm so sorry."
"I should leave. Do you need me to take you home?"
Lydia raised a hand as she threw her napkin on the table.
"I'll be fine. Thanks."
She gritted out.
She stood up and walked out. Roman sighed, he signaled to the waiter and settled the bill. He had to see Megan, if closure was the one thing that would help him move on from her he was ready to talk to her and get closure.
Omni Wellness centre, that was the name of the place she had called right after Mrs Seymour gave her the details, fortunately, they had a vacant spot and they asked her to come in for an interview the next day. Megan was so excited, she had never really been to a wellness center before, but they mentioned something about needing a manager, someone open minded and cool headed and a bunch of other qualifications that Megan felt she could work with.
The place was so soothing and relaxing. It was all white, it even had a waterfall inside. The floors were shiny and white, polished so well and nice that it looked like marble and the receptionist table loooked like it was hewn out of a large white marble stone.
The attendants also looked different, they were all wearing white long robes and Megan suddenly felt awkward and out of place in her modern work clothes.
"Hello. Welcome to Omni."
The receptionist said in the most soothing and gentle voice that Megan had ever heard. The whole ambience and atmosphere of the place was so soothing and relaxing that she felt all the stress slowly dissipating from her body. There was also something that sounded like the sound of water trickling in the background, she supposed it was supposed to be calming too but it just irked her and threw her off balance.
"Do you have an appointment?"
She asked and Megan shook her head.
"I'm Megan Andrews, I'm here about the job."
The lady nodded.
"Right this way please."
As Megan approached her interview, Roman was at the café shop asking about her. He couldn't get her out of his mind, the very next morning he was awake he rushed to the café. He had ignored the calls from his friend Phillip and even Lydia.
On getting to the café shop, he learnt Megan no longer worked there. The owner came out to see him. The woman was small and petite and had an apron around her waist. she smiled sweetly as she saw Roman.
"I heard you're looking for Megan, she left yesterday."
Roman nodded, his hands on his waist, lost in thoughts. That would leave no other option for him than to go to her apartment. God knows what would happen between the two of them if they were alone and in close proxixmity. That was one of the reason he didn't go to see her at her apartment, because he didn't trust himself around her.
"Oh. Did she quit on her own?"
"No, she didn't. I just couldn't afford her anymore. So I had to let her go."
Roman nodded, Megan had mentioned something about that before, how she might get laid off if her boss ever came back.
"Thank you for your time, I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble."
Roman sighed as he prepared to leave.
"Oh, it's no trouble at all."
"I don't mean to pry, but are you two really close?"
Mrs Seymour said after spotting the look of concern on Roman's face.
Roman nodded.
"Yes, we are. We are dating... Kind off. we didn't really end things on good terms so I was hoping we'd talk about that."
The old woman nodded slowly.
"Well, I hope things work out well for the both of you."
"Thank you."
Roman answered as he left.
"I got the job?"
Megan squealed in excitement as she shook her new boss Laura's hand.
Laura nodded enthusiastically. She was a slim willowy blonde woman who wore the same white robe as everyone else except that hers had a red sash. She looked very much like a hippie to Megan but Megan made no comments.
"Yes. You did. You have a great aura around you and you're so open minded. Besides, you also had a very good recommendation from one of our oldest members."
Megan didn't know that Mrs Seymour used to come to the resort but she was happy her recpmmendation had come in handy. The interview wasn't really like any she had been to, so she was worried that she underperformed.
Laura gave her a few doucments to sign and then she took her on a tour of the wellness centre and Megan was impressed and a bit spooked out. First of all some rooms were off limit to her, which she found weird but Laura just told her it was the rooms where they had private sessions with really high end private clients.
But every other room looked normal and relaxing, after the tour she had a chance to speak with the employees, Laura wanted her to begin right away and Megan was not complaining, the pay was really good and her job didn't really require her to do anything more than oversee the affairs of the place since she had very little experience in relation to the field.
Overall, it was a great job and she was sure she would be very happy there.
