Chapter 7.

Entering the park, a slight breeze rustled the leaves making them fall to the solid ground one by one. The air was warm, the beams of sunlight glowing on her skin. The flowers were vast, and they concealed the freshly cut green grass. The pathway was nothing more than dirt littered with random rocks.

There were very few people in the park, Megan noticed as she looked around.

Well, it was only because she had arrived early. After Roman had promised to pick her up he had called later to tel her that he was held up in traffic. He told her to go ahead and wait for him.

She had taken her sweet time before leaving the house, knowing that there was a possibility that he might still arrive late.

She sat down on one of the park benches looking around. It was still too early in the day for kids to be in the park but there was a woman with a stroller walking along the pathway. The baby was crying but the woman was on the phone, obviously frustrated by the baby's cries. Megan looked away quickly, in a few months she was going to be that woman, pulling around a stroller with a baby.

She was still very much in her thoughts until Roman approached her. There was a frown on his beautiful face. And he looked very dashing in his charcoal black suit and dark shades. If he was her baby's father, Megan was sure her baby would inherit a good part of her father's good genes.

They would make a beautiful baby with his striking looks.

"Well... Took you long enough."

Megan murmured as he sat next to her. Roman took off his shaded and gave her a forced smile, he glanced at her quickly and looked away.

"I'm a very busy man Megan."

"Try and stick to the time if there's ever going to be a next time."

She tapped her watch and Roman grimaced.

"Okay. Let's get this over with. I don't have all day."

"God! How did I ever end up in bed with someone like you? Your attitude really stinks."

She muttered underneath her breath and Roman scoffed.

"Me? Excuse me. I'm not the problem here. And if I remember perfectly which you don't you seemed to really like me when we first met."

"Well.. I must have been drunk or something."

"Aren't you always?"

He retorted and Megan narrowed her eyes at him.

"I don't have all day either. Tell me what happened between us. When did we meet? What transpired between us. Did we or did we not use a condom?"

"We met a little over three weeks ago. At a bar, you were drunk, we got talking and you even got more drunk. I was the one who took you home and made sure you were safely tucked in bed."

Roman said and Megan was taken aback.

She wasn't expecting that.

"We didn't have sex or anything?"

She asked and Roman looked appalled by the question.

"God no! I wouldn't take advantage of you that way. That's terrible."

She tucked her hair between her ears, suddenly feeling bad about judging him too quickly. It didn't seem like was that bad.

"Then you told me about having an hotel reservation. And you asked me to come because you already paid for it and all. Yea, we went out for a few drinks and went back to the hotel. We had sex quite a few times."

"Did we use a condom?"

She asked and Roman shrugged.

"Yes, most of the time we did.... We were at it all night to be honest. But I believed you mentioned something about being on the pill?"

Roman said and Megan's cheeks blushed with embarrassment. Why the hell did she keep repeating that! She wasn't on the pill. At least not at that time.

"Was that the only time we had sex?"

There was an uncomfortable silence as Roman looked away. No, it wasn't the only time. In fact, after a few days after that first time, they had gotten quite close. Even though all they had was sexual relations, he had really bonded with her. It wasn't as if she was going to remember it. Or need that particular bit of information, so he chose to leave it out.

"Yes, we hooked up quite a few times after that. But I didn't know you were seeing someone else."

He frowned and Megan looked confused.

"Someone else? Who?"

"That guy! The one from the hospital. Anthony or whatever the hell is name was."

"I don't know... I don't remember him either but all he told me was that we only hooked up once three weeks ago."

"Well. It's possible he's also the father right? So why are you talking to me?"

"I don't know! Because I'm trying to understand what the hell is going on?"

"Well... To be honest, I doubt the baby is mine. But of course, we won't know now. But in the meantime I'd appreciate if you don't let any more people hear about this."

"Why? What do you mean?"

She asked and Roman shrugged.

"Is there anything else you want to ask?"

He ignored her question and Megan paused for a while, wondering whether or not she should insist on an answer.

No, she had better things to think about.

"Did I tell you about what happened between me and my boyfriend Nick? Did you know we broke up?"

"Yes, I did. You told me about it. Apparently you caught him cheating with your best friend Camille."

Megan's jaw dropped...

That scumbag! The nerve he had to lie to her that way. Camille? Really?

"Roman. Are you serious?"

She asked and Roman nodded.

"Yes, I am. What did he tell you?"

Megan shook her head, she couldn't even wrap her head around what Roman said. She pushed it aside in her mind.

"No, don't worry. Never mind."

"What are we going to do now?"

She asked after a few moments of silence and Roman scoffed.

"Megan, there is no we."

"At least not until we know who the father of the baby is."

Megan rolled her eyes, his words hurt her but she chose not to let it show, after all she had no one else to blame but herself.

"Fine then, we'll get a DNA test."

"I know. But before that, I'd like to take you to my own doctor. To confirm if you're really pregnant and how many weeks gone you are."

Megan laughed.

"What? You think I'd lie about being pregnant too?"

"No. I just want a doctor I can trust checking you out. Do you have a problem with that?"

He fired back and Megan scoffed.

"No. I have no qualms about that. Book the appointment. In fact, while you're at it, book a DNA test too."

"We can't do a DNA test until you're at least seven weeks gone."

She shrugged as she stood up, she was done with his rotten attitude and him treating her like she was trying to pin the pregnancy on him.

"Well you can book one in advance. I don't really give a fuck."

She started walking away and Roman massaged his temples. She was angry at him, he knew. Maybe he had taken it a bit too far.

He had been very pissed off when he heard that there was a possibility that there was another father.

He knew he and Megan weren't dating or anything when they were sleeping around, but he thought he was the only one.

And with his past history with women, Roman Harrington had a hard time trusting anyone, especially one who claimed she was pregnant with his baby.

Three Weeks ago
Thirteenth of April. Monday. 11:53 pm

"I'm exhausted."

Megan said as she slipped into the covers and the warm arms of Roman.

"Me too. You have quite the stamina."

"Ugh! You too."

"Well... I was only trying to keep up with you."

"Well... That you did."

There was a brief silence that followed as Megan laid on Roman's chest, remembering that it was her anniversary and she had spent it in the arms of another man.

Prior to that, had spent the whole day being sober and going to their favourite places, that was how bad she had been hurt.

"I didn't tell you before... But today is my anniversary."

"Oh."

"With that scumbag who cheated on you?"

Roman asked and Megan nodded..

"Yes, you're right. He is a scumbag."

"Well... How do you feel? Better?"

She shook her head. No, the pain was far from gone but she knew that she would heal, as quickly as she was able to let herself heal.

"No, I don't. But I'll recover."

"It's just so funny that two days ago I thought I was in love."

"And now..."

"Now you're lying in bed with a handsome stranger you only met two days ago."

Roman answered for her and she laughed.

"Yes. Oh God! Did I even get your last name? Harrington right?"

"Yes, you got that right."

"Well... I hope you're not seeing anyone Harrington. I should have asked this much earlier but I got carried away."

"No. I'm not. Why do you ask?"

She shrugged as she drew circles on his broad chest.

"Well.. I wouldn't want to be hurting anyone by sleeping with you. God I know how horrible that feels."

"Hmmmm. You're hurting no one. I've been happily single for a while now."

"Good."

She said as her mind went to Camille. They were childhood best friends, how could she even do that to her?

They had spent all their days together.
They always told each other everything, about their lives and their relationships.

She knew how much Nick meant to her. How could she?

"You know what the worst thing is?"

"What?"

"It's the fact that it was her. It was Camille. My best friend."

"She has everything. She's perfect. Nick was the only one thing that was truly mine."

Megan blinked back hot tears as Roman's hand caressed her face.

"And she took that too."
Megan's Baby.
