Chapter 32: Triple attack

**Alice’s Point of view**

After the doctors examined me, my mother rushed to my side.
"How are you feeling?"
"Tired, but I'm okay. I'm sore all over but the doctors gave me some painkillers. They told me that I've been here for three days."
I hear my father swallow. "Yes. Do you remember what happened?"
I nod. "Yes, a car hit me. I didn't see the model or the driver. And I don't think it was an accident."
Someone knocks on the door and I see Sam, Melanie, Alpha Jack, and Derek walk in. They all hug me, telling me how happy they are that I am alive.
"I was so scared when I got there and found you." Derek tells me.
"You were the one who found me?" I ask, surprised.
He nods. "I was with Miss Gibson at school and we heard a car speed up and a loud noise. We went outside to see what was going on and that's how we found you." He says in a broken voice.
"What were you doing there anyway?" My father asks me.
I explain that a stranger gave me an appointment to give me information about rogue’s attacks but that it was just a trick to try to kill me. The question is why.
I see them exchange glances.
"What?" I ask, annoyed.
Alpha Jack sighs. "It wasn't just you who was targeted. Someone broke into our territory but we spotted him before he got into the packhouse and someone broke into Elliot's room and hurt him."
I pretend to be surprised. Well, not totally pretending since I didn't know about Silver Moon's attack. I'm tempted to ask if Elliot is seriously injured even though I know he's not, but that would raise suspicion. So I prefer to pretend that I don't care.
"Did you interrogate the intruder?" I ask Alpha Jack.
He shakes his head, irritated. "He ran away. Or rather, he disappeared. No one saw him enter or leave the territory, like if he was a ghost."
I frown. "How come you didn't sense an intrusion?"
"I don't know, and that's what worries me. That my guards didn't see him is one thing, but I should have felt it. But nothing. And it's the same thing for Alpha Mark."
A silence follows. "So that means someone tried to kill Derek, Elliot and me."
Derek nods. "I was supposed to be at home, but my meeting with Miss Gibson went longer than expected."
Sam speaks up for the first time. "There's one thing I don't understand. Derek and Elliot were attacked, or attempted in Derek's case, directly at their packhouse. Alice on the other hand was lured into the town. Why?"
Everyone is thinking.
"Maybe it was to avoid suspicion. A young Alpha was murdered in his room, another hit by a car. It could have been a coincidence." Melanie says.
"Yes, but Derek was going to be attacked the same way Elliot was." Says my father.
"Maybe not. Maybe he was just watching Derek and when he was seen, he turned around." I offer without much belief.
"I don't think so. You and Elliot were attacked the same night, there's no reason for Derek to be attacked another day." Says my mother.
"In that case, why drag me out of the territory?" I ask.
Everyone remains silent, as confused as I am.
"We are missing something." Says Sam.
"Oh, I know!" Exclaims Melanie, making us all jump. "We know that the intruders got into Red Moon and Silver Moon without being detected and especially without the Alphas knowing. What if it wasn't possible for Blue Moon? What if for some reason they couldn't get in incognito?"
"That's an interesting theory." Says Sam. "We have to find out how they did it. Without that, we'll never understand."
We theorize a lot more for at least an hour until the doctors come back to check me out and tell them I need to rest.
Alpha Jack and Derek are the first to leave. Derek turns around and kisses me on the forehead, promising to come back tomorrow. Cassie is not happy and grumbles, but I know it's mostly for show. She knows that Derek is a very dear friend.
I call him back as he is about to close the door. "Why did we stop having movie nights?"
He shrugs. "Every night one of the four of us has an activity. It stopped on its own I guess." He says, looking at Sam and Melanie who are shaking their heads.
"It's sad. I miss it." I say softly.
He smiles sadly. "I do too. Maybe we can try to arrange to have one night a month free?"
The three of us nod vigorously and Derek gives us one last wave before closing the door.
"Dad, mom, you look exhausted. Go get some rest." They start to protest. "Don't worry, I'm not moving from here." I say with a laugh.
"Okay but Sam and Melanie won't leave you and I'll post guards outside." Says my dad.
Knowing he won't change his mind, I nod, my lips pinched. They kiss me again, telling me they'll be there first thing in the morning and ordering me to rest before finally leaving my room.
Finally alone, I look at Sam and Melanie.
"Tell me. How is Elliot?"
