Chapter 51: Snow White
**Alice’s Point of view**
"What? What is the point of giving two different poisons?"
Owen clears his throat. "Maybe to make sure it doesn't miss?"
I shake my head. "I think one deadly plant unknown to anyone is more than enough."
"Someone must have thought otherwise." Says Simon.
Suddenly Owen straightens up, eyebrows furrowed.
"What are you thinking Owen?"
"Maybe two different poisons are for two different people." He says, looking at me.
"You think the second one was for me?"
He shrugs. "Someone tried to kill the three of you and it didn't work. I guess this is the second attempt."
"Assuming that's true, how could Elliot have ingested the poison that was meant for Alice?" Melanie asks.
"I think I know." I say. "I thought it was his food that was poisoned, but I remember when Prince Benjamin, Elliot and I were in the library, we heard a sound of glass and we split up to look for where it was coming from and we found a broken window. Elliot had taken two flutes of champagne and drank them, but the culprit must have thought one of them was mine!"
"Okay, but why use two different poisons?" Asks Sam.
"To cover their tracks? To make it look like two separate cases?" Melanie suggests.
"Which would explain why I was hit by a car while Elliot and Derek were assaulted in their home." I say.
"That's right, Derek must have escaped being poisoned too. A drink he must not have had, for example." Owen says.
I nod. "Yes, everything fits!"
"All right, but how do we know what that second poison is?"
"Oh, I know!" I exclaim, straightening up. "The book! The book Gertrude gave me! She said I was going to need it!"
"Where is it? You have to go get it." Says Owen.
"In my room but I can't leave Elliot. Melanie, Sam, you have to go get it and then give it to Simon to bring to me. Make it quick."
"We're leaving right now." Simon says as he hung up the phone.
Half an hour later, the three of us are bent over the book. We turn the pages at full speed.
"There!" Points Simon. "Black Delphinium. This plant again?"
"I looked it up, it's a species close to wolfsbane, and there are others, which explains all the crossbreeding the witches have done." Explains Owen.
"Great. This plant is also deadly. Tiredness, fainting and then coma. And even if it's not a powerful poison, it's deadly because it's one of the few plants that cut off communication with the wolf, preventing any healing. That has to be it!" Reads Simon.
"Please tell me that there is an antidote and that we don't need a witch." I pray, folding my hands.
He tilts his head. "The Moon Goddess is with us. We need ingredients that we can find in a kitchen. We'll be back!"
They both run to the first floor and return with arms full of ingredients.
Together, we follow the directions carefully, which, thanks Goddess, are very clear.
Elliot's parents and the doctors come running into the room, asking what's going on.
Owen briefly explains to them what we have understood and of course, the doctors and Alpha Mark do not want Elliot to be injected with anything.
I lose my patience. "It's not over yet? I understand that you don't like me and that I'm not welcome. We used only food products and I prepared it with Owen and Simon. What are we risking? He's already slipping into a coma."
"She's right." Owen supports me.
Luna Lily sighs. "Give me that."
Simon then hands her the mixture we made. She takes it with a syringe and injects it into Elliot's IV.
The doctors promise to come by regularly to check on Elliot and Alpha Mark settles into a chair, arms crossed.
I feel Elliot's pain growing and I try to make Simon and Owen understand that Alpha Mark absolutely needs to leave.
Luna Lily seems to understand and convinces her mate that they have to go and take care of their pack and organize the raid that we are going to do all together in the city.
Immediately after, I take back my place and the pain goes away.
"We'll leave you two alone. We're going to join them since you and Elliot aren't here to smooth things over."
I nod and wish them good luck.
I take advantage of this moment to learn more about these famous plants and end up falling asleep.
I see Elliot and for a moment I think that I succeeded in reaching him but I realize quickly that it is only a dream.
I hear him say my name and see him walking towards me. He reaches out to caress my cheek and I feel his fingertips graze me.
The shock of it makes me wake up with a start. I look around, lost. I feel a slight pressure on my cheek and look up at Elliot.
His eyes are wide open and he looks at me with affection.
"Elliot! You're awake!"
He smiles. "Yes, thanks to you."
I cry with relief and jump on him, burying my nose in his neck. He does the same and inhales deeply.
"I don't agree you know. I find I had more in common with Snow White who was poisoned than with Sleeping Beauty."
I freeze and straighten up. "Did you hear me say that?"
He nods.
I feel Cassie, previously silent, stir and call out to Leo.
"How do you feel? Do you hear Leo?"
He nods again. "Yes, I hear him. And I feel strangely good. How long have I been here?"
"A day or so. Your condition deteriorated very quickly." I say softly.
"I'm fine now." He says with a smile.
"Maybe you should warn your pack by mind-link."
He nods and his eyes turn glassy.
A few seconds later, it's chaos.
"This is a disaster!" Simon and Owen shout as they enter the room.
"What is it now?" I ask.
"Your father found out you were here. He's mad as hell and has assembled an army in front of our border. I think they are going to attack."
