Chapter 204 Jennifer's Choice
Through the phone call, Jennifer and Leonard realized that Black Thorn Security Company might be an organization of killers. With the financial transactions between Lowell and Henry, it seemed increasingly likely that Leonard's parents' deaths were not accidental.
Jennifer was so frightened by this revelation that she couldn't speak. Leonard leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Ask him out."
Jennifer instinctively wanted to refuse, but under Leonard's cold gaze, she agreed to set up a meeting with the man on the other end of the line.
"Why do you have to meet him? It's very dangerous," Jennifer asked Leonard after hanging up the phone, looking puzzled.
"I need to know the exact cause of my parents' deaths and the truth behind it. They won't reveal anything over the phone. It's easier to get information out of him face-to-face," Leonard replied with a smile that lacked any warmth.
"Master... honestly, I'm really scared. I never thought Henry would do something like this..." Jennifer started trembling at the thought that her husband of many years might be a murderer.
"Henry might not be the mastermind, but he's an accomplice. No matter what, I'm destined to hate him. Now, Jennifer, pick a side. Do you choose to be with him or me?" Leonard asked, looking at Jennifer calmly.
Jennifer trembled at the question and hesitated visibly. Her current luxurious life was entirely provided by Henry. Although Henry often sought other women, it didn't affect her life. However, if Henry found out about her betrayal, she might end up penniless or even dead, just like Leonard's parents.
Leonard observed Jennifer's silence without showing any worry or tension on his face.
Leonard with hands in his pockets smiled at Jennifer and said, "I know what you're worried about. You're reluctant to give up this luxurious life. But Jennifer, I have a question for you. Are you infertile?"
Jennifer widened her eyes and looked up at Leonard in shock. "How do you know that?"
Leonard laughed again. "You've been married to Henry for so many years but have no children. One of you must have a problem. When we made love, you never worried about me ejaculating inside you, which led me to conclude that you're the one who can't get pregnant."
"Even if I can't have children, Henry hasn't divorced me. He's been quite good to me. I really don't dare to betray him." Jennifer admitted and clenched her fists as she voiced her inner conflict.
Leonard stepped closer to Jennifer, staring into her eyes. "Have you ever considered what might happen if he had an illegitimate child?"
Jennifer was stunned.
Leonard continued, "You said you know he plays around with other women. What if one of them successfully seduced him and gave him a child? What would you do then? Do you think he'll divorce you and give you a share of his hard-earned assets? Or..."
Leonard leaned in closer to whisper ominously in her ear, "Or will he choose to spend a little money to make sure you die in a car accident or drown while swimming at the beach?"
Jennifer trembled uncontrollably. Leonard's scenario, though hypothetical, was not impossible.
Leonard watched Jennifer's trembling form without pressing her for an immediate decision. He believed she would eventually side with him.
After several minutes of silence, Jennifer finally looked up at Leonard and asked, "What should I do? What's your plan?"
Leonard gently caressed Jennifer's cheek and smiled. "I have a rough plan, but it needs more thought. First, we need an ally."
"Who do you want to bring in as our ally?" Jennifer asked curiously.
Leonard smiled and handed Jennifer the phone again. "Call Romy and tell her to come to Washington tomorrow."
