chapter 16: Game Night
It was almost midnight. Blaze was in the living room completing his work peacefully until Diva decided to join him.
She entered the room with her laptop intending to finish some of her work but got bored within some time as she really didn't like her work.
She looked at Blaze for a moment to see him engrossed in his work and decided she would rather play some games.
Diva was a pro gamer. She loved gaming a lot rather than her boring job.
Soon she started to play League of Legends on her laptop to get rid of her boredom. Also because she was filled with the thirst for blood.
During a match going on, Blaze suddenly asked Diva, "How is your work going?"
But Diva was so into her game that she ignored him. After all, her triple kill was more important.
What is she doing? he wondered when he didn't get an answer from Diva.
With full curiosity, Blaze decided to peek at the screen. When he did, he saw that Diva was playing a game on her laptop.
Blaze was observing her how much she was into her game, soon understanding that Diva had a liking for games.
"If you love playing games so much, then why do you work as an editor?" Blaze asked Diva when he noticed her hands were not moving any longer.
Diva's character had died and she was waiting for it to resurrect. Hearing that question, she frowned and gave Blaze a look of disdain, expressing how much she hated her job through her eyes.
"I love gaming a lot. I play games whenever I can and want," Diva said as she went back to playing, close to victory. Cunningly, she dodged the question of why she was an editor instead of doing something she loved.
Blaze smirked slightly and said, "I bet you can't beat me though."
The match had ended and Diva looked in his eyes as she said, "Are you challenging me?"
"Yes," Blaze replied blankly.
"Bring it on," Diva smirked with confidence.
Soon enough, their gaming night had started.
Diva recommended starting with League of Legends since she was already in. Blaze agreed and started to log in.
"The one with more KDA rate wins," Diva stated.
"Alright," Blaze agreed.
They started the match. The match was pretty exciting because they were being able to play together. Backing up during fights, strategically ambushing enemies together, making the right call whether to fight or retreat, their unity was well expressed.
But they didn't forget about their challenge. They kept stealing kills whenever they could and avoided death as much as they could.
The match had ended in a victory for their team. But the one with the more KDA rate was Blaze.
"I win," Blaze stated with a small smirk.
"Impossible! I demand a rematch!" Diva claimed while puffing her cheeks.
"Sure. Get ready to lose again," he said calmly.
"We will see about that." Diva's confidence didn't lower, rather it increased as she had a strong will to win this time.
They played another match, where Diva ended up having a higher KDA rate.
"Haha! Yes, I win! On your face, Blaze Hudson. Woohoo!" Diva made her joyous calls.
Blaze was shocked. Even though he knew she was a good player from the first match, he wasn't used to losing.
"It's not a final win for you. It's a draw right now, so stop celebrating," Blaze retorted. He wasn't ready to lose, come what may.
"Okay, Blaze. Let's go for the next round then!" Diva exclaimed with excitement.
"1v1."
She arched an eyebrow. "Oh? You wanna go one on one with me? Awesome! Let's do this."
They played against each other twice. Full out brutal, no holding back.
At one time Diva won, the other time Blaze.
"It's still a draw," Diva breathed out, not wanting the competition to be a draw; rather she wanted to win.
"Yeah. Let's switch games," he suggested.
"Yeah, let's play Chess!" Diva told him with new vigor.
Blaze was surprised to see her choice of game. He didn't expect an over-energized girl like her to play a calm game like chess. He wasn't sure whether she could have that much patience or not.
He let out, "Sure."
Nevertheless, they would be lying if they said they were not enjoying the valuable moments with each other.
And with that, their game of chess began.
Diva was playing from the white, while Blaze took the black. They had been playing for the past thirty-six minutes.
"You are very good at it," she mumbled, looking at the knight.
"So are you," said Blaze, putting a pawn in front.
These were the only words spoken in the entire game. No words were exchanged after that. After a long game of one hour and forty-three minutes, their match had ended up in a draw once again, making them sigh.
"After this long match, it just had to end up in a tie." Diva pulled a few strands of hair from her face in frustration.
"That was totally unexpected," Blaze stated. He didn't think it would be a draw or the match would be this long. Surely, he had underestimated Diva.
"Mortal Combat?" Blaze suggested.
"Sure!" Diva agreed cheerfully.
They grabbed their controllers and started their game, choosing their respective characters.
They got engrossed in their battles. Sometimes Diva won, sometimes Blaze. Each time, their winning number was equal.
"Another round?" Blaze asked.
Getting no reply he looked towards Diva only to find that she had fallen asleep. He looked towards the time to see it's already five in the morning. No wonder she fell asleep. Even he was feeling tired.
He went to get a blanket and put it on her. Blaze took a seat beside her, watching the screen for a while.
He was thinking how much she was into games, and how much good she was at it-the way she got excited at each win, the pouts which covered her face when she lost, the sigh when it was a draw. But he would be lying if he said that he didn't enjoy the game night.
He flinched at the sudden weight on his shoulder. He looked to see Diva had leaned on him, her head resting on his shoulder.
He didn't have the heart to wake her up. So he leaned back on the sofa, and closed his eyes, wanting to get some rest.
Unknowingly, he had also fallen asleep.
