Chapter 10: Egan wakes up

After successful surgery, Egan Robert finally woke up after more than five days in a coma.
His fingers slowly moved, then his eyes. Egan's eyes slowly opened, the light from the electric lamp suddenly affected Egan's vision a little bit difficult. He had to blink and then close his eyes several times to feel better. When his vision stabilized, he looked around the room.
This is a very familiar space, cold white, the smell of disinfectant, the assistive devices have tubes connected to Egan's body. This place is truly a hospital. Egan doesn't remember how long it's been since he's been at the hospital. Usually, when Egan is sick, he will have his doctor come to his house to examine and treat him. Egan rarely has to stay in the hospital because of his health. Now that he's here, more seriously than in the intensive care unit, it's awful.
Egan couldn't think of anything else at the moment. To be honest, his mind went blank, it felt like a heavy rock was pressing down on his head. Egan Robert's head was very uncomfortable.
Everything with Egan is still vague right now
He can't remember what happened. While dozing, the door of the room opened wide, drawing Egan's attention.
Egan's eyes met the eyes of the person who appeared in his field of vision. It froze for a few seconds and then everything broke down as the excited nurse exclaimed.
"Thank god you're awake at last." The girl happily walked closer to Egan, she kept asking: "How are you feeling, can we talk? Do you hear me right? If so, please nod or blink."
Egan Robert immediately responded to the request. His eyes blinked twice, the nurse said with a satisfied smile to him.
"Please wait a moment, I'll call the doctor right away."
With that, the nurse ran out of the intensive care unit. Egan Robert is still on oxygen so the breathing tube is still connected to his mouth. That's why Egan Robert wanted to answer but had difficulty. His body is still quite weak, not yet adapted to his current state
The wait was not too long, quickly took only a few minutes, the door opened again. The doctor in charge of Egan Robert's care and treatment was present to check on Egan's current condition.
Several small tests are conducted immediately. The doctor specializes in lights to check Egan's eyes, measure blood pressure, watch heart rate. Indicators on the electrocardiogram. Examining the incision in the operated part... All is well. Prove that Egan Robert is out of potential danger. Now he just needs to get enough rest.
"Did you see me?" The doctor asked him again just to be sure. Egan Robert immediately blinked.
"Did you hear me?" Another blink from Egan.
The doctor was much more secure. She decided to remove the ventilator from Egan, allowing him to breathe normally.
"We'll take you off the oxygen now." Egan blinked to indicate that he heard and understood the doctor's words.
"We will continue to monitor you. If twenty-four hours after removal from the ventilator your breathing is still functioning normally we will move you to the recovery room." The doctor added, and Egan Robert blinked back again. Currently, Egan's throat is dry, so he cannot open his mouth to speak. He needs a little preparation, and slowly Egan will be able to speak.
After examining Egan, the doctor went out and returned to his office. Egan continued to lie on the bed for the nurse to monitor his symptoms after getting off some mechanical devices. Currently, Egan still has to be infused with water so that his body is not debilitated due to lack of water. Egan is also allowed to eat some liquid food like porridge.
So a day passed, for twenty-four hours Egan's condition was very stable and the doctor decided to move Egan Robert to a normal room.

Today is the second day Egan Robert woke up. Egan's mental as well as physical has improved a lot. He was able to talk.
"How are you feeling?" The female doctor has just entered the room and has a quick question. As scheduled, it was time to check on Egan's condition today.
Egan Robert, who was looking towards the window, heard the call and turned to look at the new visitor. Egan Robert had requested to be in a private room so in this room no other patient would bother him except him.
"Feels so much better." Egan Robert honestly said, not forgetting to learn about his condition: "How is my condition, doctor?"
"The test results are quite positive. If there are no unexpected problems with the treatment, he will be discharged soon." The female doctor smiled and said to him, "So you can rest assured."
"Thanks." Egan Robert politely replied.
"Ah yes, we need to contact your family members to complete the unfinished procedures. You can provide your full name, home address, or contact phone number with your guardian. ?"
The female doctor reminded Egan of an equally important issue. The hospital needs to know the patient's personal information, as well as recover the expenses spent to treat Egan Robert in time. Although she knew that this situation was not appropriate, the doctor thought that Egan Robert was awake enough and could grasp these basic but extremely urgent things, so she decided to tell Egan Robert right now.
"I know." Egan Robert said without hesitation: "Can you help me contact my relatives?"
"Of course it is." The doctor happily agreed.
"Thanks." Egan Robert expressed his appreciation.
The doctor smiled, then added one more reluctant thing. She hopes Egan Robert will understand and sympathize: "Sorry sir because we arbitrarily removed your kidney without your permission as well as your guardian. But you know, we do. made the right decision to save you from danger to your life."
"I understand and appreciate your decision." Egan Robert said sincerely. Yes, he feels lucky that he still has a chance to live. Indeed, when he heard that he had kidney failure, Egan Robert did not dare to believe the miracle happened to him. But the truth is that he was given a second chance at life.
"We just do what we think is best. You don't have to be too grateful for that." The humble female doctor makes Egan very pleased with her behavior: "We are fortunate that we have fulfilled our duties and responsibilities as a doctor."
"Yes. I have seen and I believe." Egan Robert spared no praise: "You guys are great."
Being praised is always a great source of encouragement for people who save lives in general, and for doctors in particular, they see that their lives are more meaningful when they can save their patients' lives. . The female doctor couldn't hide her happy smile as she looked at Egan Robert, who thought she would not survive and is now slowly recovering.
"That's it, I'm going out, you can rest assured. I will contact your relatives soon."
"Yes." Egan said: "I await your good news."
The doctor nodded and turned to leave, but before she could walk out the door she remembered something important and turned back to Egan.
"By the way, your girlfriend is awake. She's being treated in the next room. Would you like to see her?"
Girlfriend? Egan Robert was confused by the phrase alluding to a woman. What does this mean?
"Who are you talking about?" Egan Robert asked back with a bewildered expression. Egan Robert swears he doesn't have a girlfriend yet. Currently, he is not dating any girl. This sounds ridiculous, don't make fun of him like it's not fun at all.
"The girl was admitted to the hospital with him." The doctor said and looking at Egan's bewildered face, she ventured to add: "Isn't she your girlfriend?"
"I don't understand what you're talking about. I don't have a girlfriend yet." Egan said frankly, and did not forget to emphasize: "And my memory is completely normal if that is what interests you."
The female doctor made an unbelievable face, causing Egan Robert to raise his eyebrows skeptically:
"I'm telling the truth, is something wrong? And who is the girl you're talking about? How is that girl related to me?"
"She was found with you in the accident, that's all I know from the police."
This revelation surprised and confused Egan Robert. Egan Robert currently doesn't remember much about that night, especially what happened after his car flipped. However, it was strange for a girl to be with him. Egan Robert was completely unimpressed by such news.
The question is who is she? Why? How? Oh, Egan Robert's head was spinning as he brainstormed for answers to all those jumbled questions.
"And what happened to the girl that made her look at me like I did something wrong?" Egan Robert asked more with slight annoyance. The doctor is making him feel weird about himself.
"Nothing special, it's just..." The doctor spoke slowly, she had trouble finding the right words to describe the situation. Egan Robert's denial indirectly confuses her when she realizes she has come to a misleading conclusion about Vera's relationship with Egan.
"It's just... What is it?" Egan interrupted impatiently, curious to know more about what happened when he seemed to be unconscious.
Egan Robert's wait was not too long when the doctor got straight to the point.
"The girl volunteered to donate a kidney to save his life." The doctor's voice had a little admiration for Vera's attachment and self-sacrificing spirit: "And not only me but many people who witnessed that noble act also thought she was your girlfriend. She must love you. a lot of people decide to do that."
"What did you say? That girl...?" Egan Robert was so surprised that he was speechless.
"Yes, she donated a kidney to replace one of his two severely damaged kidneys." The female doctor recounted what happened to Egan: "It's a wonderful stroke of luck that her kidneys are compatible with yours. And like I said when the girl made the suggestion, we've got to know what happened to Egan. I believe she did that because she loved you. So you don't know her?"
Egan Robert felt a headache as he tried to process what the doctor had just crammed into his head.
Unbelievable, how in the world there is such a miracle. Who is that girl after all? Is it an Angel?
"Are you OK?" The doctor looked worried when Egan used his strength to think too much. And he's showing signs of a headache.
"I have a severe headache." Egan Robert confessed: "I can't think of anything right now."
"Rest first, everything will be done later." The doctor advised him. Egan Robert obeyed, decided to stop the train of thought. He needs to get rid of the confusing things running around in his head. Let a head empty and at ease.
"I think you should take a nap, the headache will be over soon."
To be precise, he had no recollection of the incident that night. Egan listens to the doctor, he should rest a lot, at some point, he will suddenly remember what he needs to know.
"Okay thank you. I think I should sleep." Egan said. But something urged him to find out now. So Egan turned to look at the female doctor walking towards the door, he asked:
"Where is she now? I want to talk to her."
The doctor stopped and turned to face the patient. Egan Robert looked at the doctor with urgent eyes. He thinks that just by contacting Vera, maybe he will remember something.
"She's being treated in the next room. Take it easy, take it easy, there's no rush." The doctor sincerely advised: "You can see her after you feel better."
"How's her condition?" Egan Robert redirects the poll.
"She's recovering like you. Don't worry, when you get out of bed, it's not too late to meet her." The doctor continued to persuade Egan to pay attention to his condition before thinking about something else: "Now take a break. I need to get back to work."
"Thank you." Egan Robert said sincerely.
"Nothing."
The female doctor turned on her heel and left. And this time she walked out of the room.
Egan Robert then decided to give his mind a rest. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. He needs an early recovery to deal with all the important things, including finding out about his benefactor. But first, he needed to determine who Vera was, was she sent to approach Egan's heart? This suspicion is very likely, Egan Robert is forced to be careful to avoid being deceived.
Don't blame his skepticism. Egan Robert has always had to live in a situation where he had to test all kinds of things before he dared to believe in someone. Vera is no exception.
