Chapter 36: Who are you?
Turns out it was just a dream.
And when the dream ends, it's already morning!
Back to reality. There will also be times when the dark clouds disappear and the sun comes out. Sunshine after the rain. At this moment, the high sun shone on Vera's pale face, causing the pink color to be aroused.
Egan's warm hand caressed Vera's slowly brightening face, causing her to jerk awake.
Suddenly Vera's eyes opened, making Egan's heart beat faster.
Kaylin looked at Eric with emotion, she smiled happily, Vera finally overcame the great event of her life. Once again Vera triumphed over death to return. Kaylin couldn't hold back her emotions and involuntarily shed tears. Eric gently held Kaylin into his firm arms. Kaylin responded to her lover's gentle and considerate gesture by resting her head on Eric's chest, crying loudly with happiness.
Kaylin is really happy for Vera. She also loves Vera like good sisters. Anyone who knows about Vera's plight will feel pity for Vera. Because compared to Vera, Kaylin considers herself much luckier.
Oh really happy. Egan desperately wanted to scream to express his feelings at this moment. Vera finally woke up after sleeping for two days and two nights. Did Vera know that she had repeatedly scared Egan's heart into a panic when she witnessed the seizures with her own eyes?
All the difficult things have passed, we really have to thank the creator.
Vera looked dreamily around the room. Then her eyes landed on the face closest to her. Egan is looking at her lovingly. He even smiled at Vera.
Where is this? Who is the person in front of her? Vera wasn't in the mood to find out what that was. Her mind was blank now, the only thing Vera reacted to was the fact that she felt thirsty. That's why, without knowing that she was asking to stay, Vera moved her lips to beg:
"I'm thirsty..." Vera whispered, her breathing still weak. But because of her proximity to Vera, Egan could easily hear her request.
Immediately Egan turned feverishly to Eric, who had just come out of his embrace with Kaylin.
"Eric, bring water here." Egan gave the order urgently, then turned his attention back to Vera.
"I'll be right back." Eric left Kaylin, quickly walked out of the room.
Only then did Kaylin adjust her mood. She remembered what she needed to do, so she walked up to the bed and asked Vera.
"Did you hear what I said?" Kaylin purposely spoke slowly to make it easier for Vera to absorb the information: "If you hear it, blink or move your lips."
Both Egan and Kaylin waited patiently for Vera's reaction. They didn't take their eyes off Vera for a second. Finally, after much effort to respond, Vera completed her tired blink. Kaylin smiled in relief, then continued:
"I'll check on your condition." Kaylin said: "I'm going to ask a few questions, you just blink and answer, okay?"
"Okay..." This time Vera's weak voice spoke again, which showed that Vera understood what was going on.
It didn't take long, Kaylin quickly asked Vera a few simple things:
"How are you feeling inside?" As if afraid that Vera would have difficulty answering, Kaylin suggested: "If good, blink once, if not good, blink twice."
Vera blinked once for the answer. The truth is that her body is tired, other than that there are no serious problems to worry about.
Thus, the two sides cooperated very well. After getting a glimpse of Vera's condition, Kaylin proceeded to check her temperature, heart rate, and other problems.
Kaylin was busy, while Egan knew the meaning, moved away from the bed to create a comfortable, airy space for the female doctor to move easily around Vera.
Kaylin had just finished the last part when Eric also appeared.
"Sorry, I'm back." Eric said as he entered the room: "I got water."
"Where did you get the water? It took you so long? The North Pole or the South Pole?" Egan expressed dissatisfaction, scolding Eric: "Waiting for Vera to die of thirst, do you intend to return?"
It was true that it took a long time for Eric to put the water in. But also have to sympathize with Eric, not saying that water is available when taking water, he has to boil it and wait for it to cool down before daring to give it to Vera.
"Sorry for taking the time." Eric calmly explained. Eric's words also meant to blame Egan: "But I don't want that, if someone takes the trouble to boil water and let it cool, it only takes a few seconds for me to complete the task. Over here in the kitchen, There isn't a single drop of treated water that's qualified to drink. Do you want Vera to drink cold water that's full of harmful bacteria?"
Egan couldn't argue with Eric's words. He remembered that he did not boil water, Egan had only been drinking water from bottles available in the refrigerator for the past few days. And what fool Egan wouldn't have understood that the water in the fridge Vera couldn't drink in her current state.
"So I boiled the water, then waited for it to cool down before I put it in here, so it took a while." Eric saw Egan not it What else I got, I was overwhelmed by the water.
"Come on, stop talking, bring water over here, Vera must be thirsty." Kaylin found the situation tense, afraid that the two men would argue at length, so she wanted to intervene. Not to mention making noise will affect Vera.
"Besides, I'm busy on the phone." Eric still wouldn't stop.
Eric emphasized that an important phone call was needed, so delay was acceptable. Kaylin looked helplessly at her boyfriend, while Egan also surrendered because he knew he couldn't argue with Eric's many excuses.
Fortunately for Eric, Vera can endure the thirst, or else Egan swears he will beat Eric in a good fight because he kept Vera waiting for so long. Even if Eric had all the right reasons, it was hard to avoid once Egan let go of the argument and did what he wanted.
"Come on Eric, give me water," Kaylin called her boyfriend's attention. The doctor's hand was already out, waiting for Eric to step forward and hand him a glass of water.
"Leave it to me."
Egan spoke quickly, taking the glass of water from Eric's hand before Kaylin could even touch it. After a moment of bewilderment, Kaylin and Eric could only look at each other helplessly when they saw Egan's decisive action. Everyone understood that he wanted to personally give Vera water, so he had no intention of stopping.
"Open your mouth." Egan gently offered Vera: "I'll give you water."
Vera blinked a few times as she stared at Egan's face. It was a very familiar face, but she didn't recognize Egan at the moment. Neither Eric nor Kaylin seemed to be complete strangers to Vera.
"You're thirsty, aren't you? Open your mouth." Egan asked again when Vera did not respond.
Vera, who happened to witness what happened just now could only cooperate in silence. She still hasn't regained consciousness, Vera has not yet remembered what she's been through. Everything is a mess, complicated, chaotic.
Vera had difficulty swallowing the spoonfuls of water that Egan helped her put in her mouth. Vera's dry throat was finally relieved by the cooling water.
After Vera finished drinking the water, Kaylin asked the two men to leave the room so she could examine Vera's wounds and help Vera clean up and change into new clothes.
At the end of the day, Vera fell asleep again, this time sleeping not in a coma. So Kaylin tells Egan to rest assured, Vera is slowly recovering. She just needs a lot of rest.
...
The dark room was suddenly filled with light when the curtains were drawn. Vera once again opened her big eyes to look around the room. Last night she slept well without nightmares or convulsions that came to torment her body. And of course, the evil fever had also spared Vera.
Vera's body was the same in better condition than yesterday. At least the bouts don't become insidious anymore. Now she only felt fatigued from lying motionless for so long. Perhaps Vera will have to warm up the muscles for a long time so that the whole body becomes as active and vibrant as before.
She was staring dreamily at the ceiling, when a deep voice called for her attention.
"I'm awake."
Hearing Vera's voice, she startled slightly and then frantically looked around. She was in a state of consciousness when the memories flooded back uncontrollably. Last night Vera was startled awake in the middle of the night, and then gradually remembered what she had experienced.
Looking at the man she couldn't remember, Vera showed fear. She thinks Egan is a bad person. Her life was filled with bad guys, so she instinctively thought she was in danger. And by reflex of defense, the body trembled, sweat and wet forehead.
"Who are you, please don't hurt me?" Vera trembled and begged: "I beg your pardon. I have nothing to give you."
Vera burst into tears, her voice choked with two pleadings. She looked so pitiful, so pitiful. The trauma has made Vera weaker, more fragile than ever. Vera was afraid something bad would happen again.
Egan's heart ached as he watched Vera become so mad. He hadn't done anything yet, his presence made Vera tremble and cry. Looking at Vera, Egan felt his indignation welling up. Although the bad guys were punished, they left a huge emotional imprint on Vera. Egan really wants to help Vera erase it, he wants to hold Vera in his arms, rub her back gently, and keep up the good things. Egan longed for protection, wrapping Vera in his arms.
"Don't worry, I won't hurt you." Egan graciously replied, he couldn't stand the fact that Vera was in pain and screaming, so he defied everything. Egan slowly walked towards Vera, he wanted to help Vera stop being agitated, unfortunately, Vera did not understand Egan's heart. She considers Egan a great danger.
"Please, don't come over here."
Vera was not aware of her behavior, she kept screaming when she realized the strange man was approaching her. The touch of hands, the mocking smile, the amusement that suddenly appeared in front of Vera's eyes made her even more scared.
Hearing Vera's scream, the female doctor who had just entered the house hurriedly ran to Vera's room.
"What's wrong? What's wrong?" Kaylin hurriedly asked the question. Her eyes fell on Vera and then landed on Egan, who was two feet away from Vera's bed. He stopped automatically when Vera cowered on the bed in fear.
"Egan?" Kaylin asked, she didn't guess the situation.
Egan sighed wearily and said, "Maybe she's afraid of me."
"What?" Kaylin exclaimed in confusion.
"She screamed when she saw me approaching her." "She thought I was the bad guy," Egan explained.
Egan's voice was sad, he even bowed his head to show his disappointment. Kaylin seemed to understand all the problems, so she had words of encouragement for Egan.
"Be patient, Vera needs some time." Kaylin said of her speculation: "I think Vera remembers what happened to her, momentarily agitated when she caught you trying to get close to her. That's a natural reaction to someone who used to be. Given the circumstances, I think you get what I mean."
"I understand." Egan sighed, raised his head to look at Vera: "I don't blame Vera. I will wait patiently. You help me take care of Vera."
"Okay, leave it to me." Kaylin said: "I will talk to Vera, I believe Vera will definitely be able to tell the difference. Who is the good guy and the bad guy."
"Thanks to you too."
"Yes."
After saying that, Egan turned and walked out of the room.
When the door closed, Kaylin turned to look at Vera, who was curled up on the bed in a fetal position. Vera didn't seem to notice the conversation between Egan and Kaylin. She is living in panic when she remembers what happened before.
"Vera." Kaylin's voice was soft, gentle, easily reaching Vera's ears, and penetrating her troubled heart.
"It's all right, girl." The female doctor reassured her: "Keep calm, no one will harm you. We are good people."
Then she stepped forward and tried to touch Vera's hand. Vera's skin was cold, sweat secreted like rain.
