Chapter 9: Interrogation 2
"Ma'am, please calm down."
"Ma'am. We just want to talk, please listen to us." A policeman reached out his hand to try to approach Vera. Vera looked at that arm and thought of the hand of the abuser who hit her.
"Please don't hit me." Vera panicked and begged: "Please, please..."
"Please stay away from me, don't come near me," Vera mutters begging, repeatedly dismissing as the officer doesn't give up on approaching Vera.
Vera's whole body trembled violently, she struggled to move away from the touch.
"Miss." The police became worried.
"Ah..." Vera's scream successfully caused the two policemen to keep their distance from Vera. She was clutching her ears with her hands, her head shaking wildly to the sides. His mouth kept muttering prayers.
The police knew for sure something serious had happened. But before a thorough investigation, they need a doctor's help.
Soon a male doctor walked in followed by a nurse.
"What happened?" Seeing the patient agitated, the doctor looked at the police suspiciously.
"She was suddenly like that when we asked some questions about what happened." The policeman calmly replied, "Something serious must have happened, right?"
"Maybe the patient has a psychological trauma, we will give her a sedative first. Wait for her to calm down, then continue." The doctor spoke quickly to the police, then turned to the nurse: "Quickly prepare the medicine."
"Yes." The nurse said, hurrying out of the room. She headed to the pharmacy to get the right medication the doctor prescribed.
"Please wait outside. I need to stabilize the patient." The doctor sternly asked the police to cooperate with him.
"Okay. Then we'll wait outside."
The police agreed, then walked out of the room and the doctor immediately took action to calm Vera.
Vera fell asleep after the sedative took effect. While Vera slept, the doctor performed a general examination on Vera at the request of the police. What Vera endured is now known. Because they inadvertently ignored Vera and focused most of their attention on Egan's case.
The police remained outside patiently waiting for the results. Finally, the door opened and the doctor walked towards them with a disapproving look on his face.
"How's the girl?" Without delay, the police began investigating Vera's condition immediately.
"Tests showed she had been abused. The injuries on her body were caused by beatings." The doctor said in a bitter voice: "The marks left are quite new, indicating that it happened not long ago."
"Can we talk to her now?" The police officer suppressed his emotions and feelings, kept a calm face, and continued to do his job.
"Currently the patient is sleeping due to the effects of the sedation." The doctor said: "Wait until she wakes up."
"When does she wake up?" The police impatiently asked more.
"I can't say exactly when the patient will wake up. It all depends on how long the effect of the drug lasts. And importantly, the patient's ability to adapt to the drug. is to sleep long or wake up early depending on many factors."
The police looked thoughtful, although the matter was big, it could not be rushed. The victim's health is always the priority, everything else comes after. As he realized the seriousness of the problem, the doctor contributed a solution.
"Perhaps you two should come back later." The doctor added: "I will contact you when she regains consciousness."
"Okay then. Thanks again." The policeman said and the doctor nodded: "Contact us as soon as she wakes up." The police took a piece of paper with his phone number and gave it to the doctor, carefully.
"I will." The doctor took the piece of paper and gave the officer a firm nod.
The policeman turned to his colleague standing behind him.
"We'll be back later."
He nodded in understanding, turned to leave the hospital.
Then the doctor returned to work, while the police also returned to headquarters. They decided to go back to the hospital after Vera woke up.
...
"Are you sure Egan is still alive?" The assassin asked again when he heard the news from the messenger.
"That's right, Egan is being treated at the city's hospital." The voice on the other end of the phone said seriously: "The police have now started an investigation into the accident."
"How's the situation?" The assassin asked again.
"There are no official results yet, but soon. My colleagues went to the hospital today."
"Keep learning and let me know as soon as possible."
"OK." The other side said, "But first you should..."
"I know, the money will be transferred to your account soon." He promises: "Do your part well and you will be well rewarded."
"I know. Hi."
Phone disconnected. The assassin angrily threw the glass in his hand to the corner of the wall. The sound was deafening and debris was scattered all over the floor.
The assassin felt that this mission was a complete failure. He guessed that he shouldn't be subjective, he should get out of the car to check to make sure Egan had stopped breathing before he left. Or if Egan was still alive, he should finish off Egan himself like that to finish the job. Now he didn't know how to deal with his boss, who ordered him to deal with Egan.
Damn it! The assassin cursed, frantically destroying things in the room.
...
Vera had awoken from a twelve-hour long sleep. And the doctor didn't waste time calling the two policemen who had come to find Vera yesterday. The doctor is aware that it is necessary to save Vera soon from this. Vera needs justice and the bad guy who made her this way must be punished by the law.
"Please don't let the patient get too excited." The doctor added: "She is also deeply affected by what happened."
"We know, thanks for letting us know." The police spoke to the doctor before entering Vera's room.
Vera's lifeless eyes, which we're looking at the window, immediately changed direction to the door and caught sight of the same two policemen as yesterday.
"Hi, are you feeling better?" One of the two policemen questioned Vera.
Vera knew this wouldn't stop until she was satisfied with what the police wanted to find out. They already knew about her condition yesterday, they couldn't just ignore it. Vera knows that what they do is to fulfill the responsibility of those who care for the cause, regain justice for the weak, and the bad will have to be punished by the law.
"I feel much better, thanks for asking." Vera politely answered them.
"So, Miss Vera." The other was always frank once the conversation began: "Are you willing to answer our questions?"
Vera sighed and nodded in agreement. Vera was ready to end it all. The police, without delay, immediately began to interrogate:
"I ask you again, what is your relationship with the man?"
This question sounds confusing. Didn't Vera make it clear yesterday, how many times did Vera have to say it before they would believe it?
"I don't know who he is," Vera answered honestly, looking her questioner in the eye. There was no falsity in her gaze, just a flicker of fear. This policeman's demeanor scared her.
The police didn't believe what Vera said. They assumed she was hiding something. And things should go in the direction that they weave.
"Come on Vera, don't worry about it, we'll protect you." The police lowered their voices to convince Vera: "Tell us the truth, believe us. We will protect you from that bad guy."
"I don't understand what you guys mean." Vera bluntly said: "What I say is the truth."
In front of Vera's steady gaze, the police did not circle the three kingdoms and hit the point. He made his conjecture.
"Did he abuse you?" Emphatic, both officers looked at Vera waiting for a response from her, stunned or horrified. Unfortunately, she showed a bewildered, suspicious look.
"Who are you two talking about?"
"The man was admitted to the hospital with her." The police decided to be a little clearer: "The two were in a relationship or something like that, he abused her. Then on the way home, the car got into a traffic accident. ."
Vera gasped in surprise at the far-fetched imagination of the police. Do they know that they have just fabricated a story that sounds completely untrue but makes a lot of sense? It was very likely, but unfortunately not in Vera's situation.
"Is that right, ma'am?" The police questioned more when Vera was silent.
When asked, Vera immediately shook her head to deny any speculation.
"Don't be afraid at all, we will help you get justice. He can be prosecuted for his actions." The police spoke reassuring words to Vera. What are they trying to do? Convict a man who is a stranger to Vera for nothing, end the case early?
"Oh my god, what are you talking about." Vera exclaimed, vehemently protesting the idea of unfairly blaming others: "Not him. I said I didn't know him."
"Miss Vera." The police tried to control the situation. It looks pretty bad, and is Vera agitated? "Please stay calm, we just want your best... So..."
"Please don't attribute everything until you know the facts." Vera expressed her wish sincerely: "It's terrible, it can make an innocent person wrong."
The two policemen looked at each other, silently agreeing that they would start over differently.
"So, Miss Vera, can you tell us who abused you?" The police calmly asked: "Who beat you?"
Vera did not want others to suffer unjustly, even more, did not want things to drag on, so she decided to tell the whole story.
"That is enough." Vera sighed, cleared her throat, and began: "I'll tell you two."
The two policemen listened attentively to what Vera had to say. Vera spoke with the courage that Vera had gathered.
After Vera stopped there was a pause. Then the police decided to break the atmosphere filled with chaotic emotions that possessed Vera.
"Are you sure about what you just reported?" The police want to confirm the information is correct.
"I guarantee that everything I say is true." Vera snorted, wiped her tears with her hand, and continued with a choked voice: "After I got to the surface, I found my way home and saw his car being chased by another car. Then under pressure. of the car behind, his car suddenly lost control and overturned. I fell into the ditch so I didn't get hit by the car. Next as said we were both taken to the hospital."
"Did you see the killer's face?"
Yes, this is essential. Just find the culprit, everything will be closed. But life is never that easy.
Vera tries to summon a stream of memories, but now the image of the killer's face refuses to appear in Vera's brain.
"It's not quite morning yet. I can't remember anything else. I was too scared at the time. I think I need some time."
Seeing Vera's commendable effort, the police stopped forcing her. On the contrary, they were very grateful and did not forget to encourage Vera's spirit.
"Yes, thank you for your cooperation. Let us know when you can remember any more details. And don't worry, we'll soon find the bastards who got you into this mess."
That is a promise, traffickers will pay for the crime.
The phone rang a second time before the killer picked it up.
"I hear, speak quickly." He hurriedly urged the person on the other end: "Any news?"
"I have investigated the number of rooms where Egan is being treated." "His condition is also improving," the informant said.
"Fine, send me the information over here." The assassin coldly ordered.
"What do you intend to do?" The other person was a little curious, worried that the assassin would do something shady.
"That's my problem. You just need to gather information." He emphasized in a stern voice: "Do not pry into things that do not concern you, lest you cause harm to yourself."
"Okay, I will send you the information once the money is transferred to the account." The messenger said: "As long as I have money, you will have information."
The assassin gritted his teeth in annoyance, didn't say anything more, and immediately hung up. One quick operation, he transferred money to the personal account number of that corrupt, corrupt policeman. The other policeman sold his work ethic because of his passion for gambling and was easily manipulated by evil forces.
A few seconds later he received a text message, the content mentioned the room number, where Egan was resting. The assassin decided to have a visit to Egan, get everything done before the boss learned that Egan was still alive.
