Chapter 17: First Encounter

"Bastard." The driver gritted his teeth and cursed without saying hello, speeding away. Lani was lucky because the man was at work, otherwise, Lani would have been dumped in the wilderness.

Vera came out of her trance, she appeared confused.
"Is that OK?" The man urged an answer from Vera.
"Of course." Vera replied hesitantly, "You're welcome."

"Thanks." The man said and immediately sat down next to Vera.
How does it feel to have just arrived? Vera didn't know why she felt shy. It must have been her first time being around a man. Until now, Vera had only been in contact with Enoch, her stepfather, and Ken. Also, any other boy she was not allowed to approach because Enoch forbade it. So the fact that this stranger was sitting near made Vera a little nervous and worried.
The person sitting next to him seemed to notice Vera's uneasy expression, then spoke up:
"How long have you been in the hospital?"
"About ten days." Vera doesn't remember exactly when she came in here so she should speak out. In fact, she didn't want to remember what she went through, so she pretended to forget all those traumatic events.
"Coincidentally, I've been here for ten days." The man said, eager to see Vera's reaction.
"Really?" Vera shyly commented, "What a coincidence."
Then Vera kept silent. Communicating with other people made Vera nervous and it wasn't hard for the man to notice.
"Why did you come in here?" The next question made Vera a little thought as she remembered why she was here instead of at home or at university.
"I had an accident." Vera after a moment of silence answered honestly.
"I also had a traffic accident." The man said, amused by the coincidence: "We really are alike."
Vera mustered up the courage to turn to look at the person next to him, at the same time he was also looking at Vera. There was another pause of silence. As for the man, he's trying to capture Vera's psyche. However, he did not detect anything strange or suspicious. Vera looks very plain. As for Vera, this was the first time she saw a very handsome guy, and strangely her heart couldn't help but flutter. And what Vera didn't expect finally happened, she suddenly blushed when she realized the man was also staring at her. Not to mention the two are very close.
Vera unconsciously bit her lower lip lightly and turned her face away immediately. She felt extremely embarrassed.
"What's the matter?" The man pretended to ask: "Are you not feeling well, that's your face."
"Don't stare at me like that, please." Vera struggled to ask for help: "I'm not used to being stared at by other people, especially men."
Vera's honesty caused the man to burst out laughing. Unexpectedly, Vera was such a shy girl. His laughter caught Vera's attention.
It was a very beautiful smile, Vera was lucky to see it.
Looking at the stranger for a moment, Vera forgot about the shame and turned it into a slightly uncomfortable state.
"You seem to enjoy teasing people." Vera suddenly made a serious comment.
"It's not like that for everyone." The man returned with a serious look, with justification:
"Meeting someone who makes me happy to tease is not often."
"You mean I'm different, right?" Vera suddenly wanted to take matters away. She didn't think the man's words or behavior were an insult to her.
"Other people are often very special." The man again justified himself: "I mean not everyone has the ability to make others feel loved, want to tease."
"So do you think I should be happy about that or feel annoyed when I become the laughing stock of others?"
"It depends on the attitude and behavior of the prankster." The man-made a sharp argument: "And as you can see, I have no ill intentions towards you, do I?"
Vera couldn't argue anymore, the man was right, it's just that she inferred what others meant. Making things difficult for yourself, making simple things complicated.
Silence again, the man's eyes did not leave Vera's face.
"Looks like I need to go back to my room." Vera broke the awkward moment when she spoke first: "Nice to talk to you."
"Me too." The man smiled and Vera replied with a gentle smile.
"Then let me go first." Vera said, getting up from her chair: "Hi."
Before Vera started to leave the man also stood up to face Vera. The height gap forced Vera to look up at him.
"Shall we meet again?" A man intending to get to know Vera: "Can you tell me your name and room number?"
Vera considered for a moment then shook her head in denial. The man was confused at first but then turned to look sad, but he didn't want to force Vera either. In addition, this refusal does not make people feel too hurt.
"Well, that's a pity, I really want to be friends with you." The man with a sad voice said with regret.
"All by chance." Vera spoke up to explain her decision: "If it's predestined, we'll meet again, if it's not, it's only natural."
"Then you'll tell me your name if we meet again!" The man does not give up his hope, he wants Vera to accept his small request.
"I hope we'll see each other again."
Vera did not directly agree, but Vera's answer was enough to satisfy the man. He also hopes to see Vera again in the same way as Vera said, fate pushed both of them. And if it is not possible, the man will also create his own predestined relationship with Vera.
Vera's shadow faded away, the man also turned on his heel and returned to his special room.
