Chapter 40: Get acquainted

There was a slight awkwardness when suddenly everyone went silent, the atmosphere looking awkward. Vera of course doesn't know what to say because she's a guest anyway, the host doesn't say anything, how dare she open her mouth? Not to mention Vera also lives aloof, has little communication with others, so she doesn't know what to say appropriately, or make the other person feel uncomfortable. For his part, Egan was embarrassed because he didn't know what to do to make Vera feel comfortable, he was afraid that Vera would be shy and born with low self-esteem.
Talking is also an art that needs to be learned and cultivated. For those with good, close relationships, it's different. Unfortunately in this case neither Vera nor Egan has a clear relationship. In addition, both are introverted, talk less, and think a lot. Just say depending on each situation, each object has appropriate words only.
This is how it is now, but the future can be improved. Once the two sides understand each other better, without any words, they still feel comfortable and happy when they are together.
That said, but now no matter what, someone must break the limit of silence and Egan resolves that that person must be him.
"Is there anything else you need? I'll provide anything you ask for." Egan reminded Vera: "Don't feel shy, I'm glad I could help you."
At Egan's sincere words, Vera did not refuse this time. Honestly, she really wanted a glass of water to drink to relieve her dry throat. She was feeling thirsty, so she couldn't stand the thirst any longer. Vera bravely asked:
"If you can, can you get me a glass of water?"
Oh, Egan originally thought Vera would continue to stay quiet to keep her distance, but she did something else that made Egan slightly confused. Vera talking back to her made Egan dumbfounded for a moment, but then calmed down because Vera was looking at him confused.
"Of course." Not wanting Vera to think about it, Egan happily said, "I'll go get it for you right now. Wait a minute, I'll be right back."
With that, Egan quickly walked out of the room again. But then he's in the doorway when he turns around, confusing Vera with Egan's behavior. Vera's body shrank in response.
"What is going on?" Vera stammered to find out, she really didn't grasp what Egan's actions meant.
"I forgot my stuff, don't be so nervous. Sorry to startle you!" Egan had an explanation, then he walked over to the table, took a bowl of porridge on it, and hurried out of the room.
What is that? It was a flash, Vera blinked in confusion, Egan acted so fast that before Vera could feel it, everything was over. Maybe Egan is as shy as Vera.
Egan's shadow disappeared, Vera breathed a sigh of relief, placing a hand on her chest to gently calm her chaotic, throbbing heartbeat. Honestly, Egan almost made her heart jump out of her chest. Vera thought it was something serious, worrying her too much. Turns out it wasn't, Egan just forgot to bring the empty bowl out.
Moments later, Egan hurriedly entered the room. The door didn't close so Egan didn't need to ask Vera's permission anymore, he just rushed inside.
"I brought you water." Egan announced calling for the attention of Vera, who had been daydreaming again: 'Sorry to keep you waiting for so long!
Vera looked back at Egan, now holding a large jug of water in his hand instead of the small, modest glass she had asked for.
Quickly Egan stepped forward and filled the glass on the table with water. Then Egan took the glass of water and gently handed it to Vera.
"Drink it, I made it less hot before I brought it in." Egan further explained: "The doctor told me not to drink cold water, so I should drink warm water to keep my body temperature stable."
"Thank you." Egan spoke with all her heart. Gratitude is real, no one has ever said a kind word to her, let alone treated her the way Egan is doing.
"Don't be a guest." Egan smiled: "Come on, let me help you."
Egan put the glass of water in Vera's hand so she could hold it firmly. Vera understood the meaning of coordination, the moment the two hands touched, both of their bodies seemed to have an electric current running through them. Egan knows for sure that the feeling is love, and Vera she's a bit dumb in that regard so, of course, she'll find out very slowly.
Seeing Vera hesitate to drink water, Egan gently encouraged her.
"Let's relaxing."
Vera sighed, slowly bringing the glass of water to her mouth, just taking a sip she suddenly coughed up because of the strain of Egan's concerned gaze for her.
"Are you okay?" Egan stepped forward and patted Vera on the back: "Drink slowly."
For the first time, Vera dared to look directly into Egan's handsome face. It felt a bit familiar, but she couldn't remember exactly where she'd seen him.
Suddenly his gentle smile made Vera's heart feel warm.
"You've never met a handsome man like me?" Before Vera's attentive gaze, Egan had a good idea, and he implemented it when he blurted out a prank on Vera that made her blush.
"What, it's not what you think..." Vera stammered to justify her stare at Egan. The more she spoke, the more intensely red she became: "Don't think about it..."
"You don't have to be shy, I allow you to look at you freely." Egan, still unsatisfied, poked Vera again.
Honestly, Vera was made by Egan to bite her lower lip, speechless. Why is Egan like this? Maybe he's overconfident.
"Come on, hurry up and drink water to quench your thirst, I won't tease you anymore." Seeing Vera silent, Egan bowed his head in surrender. He gives up on making Vera blush, although Vera's shyness is considered cute by Egan.
After saying that, Egan gently helped Vera stabilize the glass of water. Once Egan's hand touched Vera's, an electric current ran through both of their bodies.
Vera looked at Egan's gentle, kind gesture with amusement. It was the first time someone treated her so well. Vera can feel the humanity in Egan.
Then Vera was thirsty, so she drank it all in one gulp. She then handed the empty glass to Egan who was standing beside her bed and hadn't moved away.
Egan put his glass back on the table, then turned to talk to Vera. Egan didn't want Vera to feel out of place. Although he's not one to talk much or engage in conversations often, he's willing to go out of his way to help Vera fit in.
"Do you want to chat with me?" Egan said slowly: "Let's get to know each other first."
Felt like Egan's opening was a bit childish, but somehow Vera liked it. At least she knew Egan wasn't a brat.
Knowing that Egan was still waiting for her answer, Vera after a few seconds of thinking nodded in agreement. Just waiting for that, Egan continued on the topic right away:
"My name is Egan, Egan Robert. You can call me Egan." When Egan finished talking about himself, he asked Vera: "What about you?"
Egan obviously knew a lot about Vera, but he didn't want Vera to misunderstand that he had some shady intentions with her. So Egan wanted to get to know her from the very beginning.
"Vera." She shyly replied, "Vera Taylor."
The afternoon ended with a light and pleasant atmosphere. After giving Vera the medicine, Egan went out to let Vera rest.

The next day, as usual, Kaylin would stop by to check on Vera and then go to the hospital. Eric is the kind and thoughtful shuttle of the female doctor.
Different from yesterday, today Vera woke up with a good spirit, no longer feeling strange from where she is.
Vera had just opened it not long ago when Kaylin was already in her room.
"How are you feeling today, Vera?" The female doctor asked gently.
"A lot better." Vera said with a smile. Looking at Vera's bright face, Kaylin was sure that Vera's mood had greatly improved.
"Good then." Kaylin happily said, "Let's start the test, are you ready?"
"Yes." Vera nodded while smiling. She was mentally prepared from the moment she woke up. Vera wants to recover soon to solve unfinished child problems. Just as Kaylin had advised, Vera needed to settle her debt with Enoch and her father.
After Vera was ready, Kaylin took her tools from her bag and walked over to the bed. Kaylin put the stethoscope to her ear, then checked her heart rate, measured blood pressure, applied medicine to Vera's wounds...
Vera's condition is gradually recovering very well, which makes the female doctor extremely satisfied with her efforts, the results achieved are not wasted.
"How's my condition, doctor?" Vera sighed and asked as the female doctor put the sphygmomanometer in her pocket.
"All stats are stable." Kaylin replied without stopping her act of cleaning up her medical equipment: "If you keep going in this positive direction, you will soon recover."
"Very well then, thank you, Doctor." Vera said sincerely, she feels very happy.
"It's okay, don't be polite." Kaylin zipped up her backpack, turned, and smiled at Vera: "By the way, just call me Kaylin. We can become good friends, how does Vera feel?"
"Is that okay?" Vera's eyes widened in surprise when Kaylin asked them to be friends: "Can I be your friend?"
"Why not?" Kaylin asked back, with an explanation: "Of course, we can be friends. Don't think or worry."
"But you and I really don't..."
"The age gap or the status, the status is nothing." As if understanding Vera's concern, Kaylin bluntly had her own statement and opinion: "Don't put it on the scale to lower your self-worth."
Seeing Vera bow her head in shame, Kaylin continued: "Vera, be confident, don't let the people who used to say bad things about you laugh and gloat."
Vera looked up at Kaylin, smiled, and nodded.
"Then we'll be friends!"
"Yes." Vera happily replied. She was so touched that she burst into tears. Kaylin hurriedly walked over and hugged Vera, patting the girl:
"Oh dear Vera, you deserve good things so be more optimistic and confident about yourself. Always be proud of yourself."
"I'll keep that in mind, thanks, Miss Kaylin." Vera returned the hug by wrapping her arms around Kaylin's waist. For the first time, someone said such kind, gentle words to Vera. That changed Vera's mind a lot. Vera believes later Good things will come to her.
Outside the room, Egan and Eric listened to the two girls' stories. They all felt much more secure as Vera was slowly recovering. Egan couldn't help but smile happily when he saw Vera smiling happily. Yes, Egan felt the same happiness as Vera felt.
Standing next to Egan, Eric saw his friend whom he considers as a younger brother smiling, and his heart was also very happy.
"Vera's condition is getting better, rest assured!"
Eric put a hand on Egan's shoulder encouragingly: "You also have to quickly get the job done."
"I know." Egan replied, "I'll definitely be back soon."
"Good then." Eric was satisfied, patting Egan's shoulder a few times before taking his hand off Egan's shoulder.
"Thank you, Eric." Egan suddenly expressed gratitude.
"For what?" Eric was a little surprised when Egan spoke casually about something that rarely happens. Thank you, Egan, this is true once every thousand years.
"You were just in time." Egan explained: "Without him, I don't know what terrible things Vera would have had to go through. I wouldn't be able to bear to see Vera devastated."
Eric let out a sigh, then fell into contemplation for a moment. Eric knows that Egan is more than just saying thank you, Egan is also sending a word of encouragement to Eric about the story he had to go through before. Egan wants Eric to blame himself less, as well as to happily step forward.
