Chapter 47: Chat before deciding
Egan let out a sigh, he didn't feel comfortable with such news. Egan also doesn't want to be the bad guy, but his life is always threatened by evil forces that want to oppose him. Egan is always in a state of being stalked, causing harm. That near-fatal accident was one of the things Egan had to go through over the years.
Egan has a large network, so he has survived many disasters many times. Egan believes it will be the same in the future. Not to mention he now has a guardian angel by his side.
Speaking of guardian angels, Egan suddenly remembered Vera. She is still sleeping. Egan doesn't want to harass Vera. All these days he left Vera free to do what she wanted without any opinions or objections. With Egan, as long as Vera is comfortable, he feels the same way.
...
By this time, Vera was awake. Two days ago, she got the doctor's permission to get out of bed to walk around the house. Speaking of Health, Vera has already recovered. As time passed, Vera got used to Egan's presence in the house. Egan was no longer a concern or a fear for Vera. Here Vera feels safe. Egan treats Vera so well that Vera thinks she is living a different person than before.
Everything is so wonderful right now, Vera hopes it's not a dream, or if it is a dream, the dream will continue to last. Vera did not want to wake up to face the bitter, harsh reality of reality. There's nothing wrong with being immersed in a beautiful dream, it's just a strong desire and desire of people to forget the difficult life in reality. So don't blame Vera.
I thought Vera would live peacefully and happily in a dream forever, but then the harsh reality of reality surrounded. Although she did not want to, Vera also had to wake up from the dream, and face the unpredictable reality. Not talking about tomorrow or the future, Right now, at this moment, Vera is having unrelenting anxiety.
Vera is extremely worried because she doesn't know where she should go after she fully recovers. Her injuries are gradually improving rapidly. The faster the process, the greater Vera's worries. She can't be a liar and cheater when she pretends to be sick to stay here. Kaylin will find out Vera doesn't want to disappoint the female doctor, and also Egan, Vera can't upset him just because of her thoughtless, calculated actions.
But what better way than pretending to still hurt? Actually Vera thought of several ways, but she wasn't sure it would work, and it didn't work out either way.
Vera's thoughts came to a sudden halt when she walked out of the room, finding Egan standing in front of his door.
"I got up." Egan smiled at her. The friendly smile always makes Vera feel warm.
"Yes." Vera tried to smile.
"I'm thinking of having afternoon tea, do you want to drink with me?" Egan has an offer, Vera has no reason to refuse. So she timidly nodded.
The two walked into the kitchen, and Egan told Vera to wait. He will make tea. Egan also has a knack for hiding, so no one should look down on him, thinking that he comes from a noble background and always needs servants.
A moment later Egan returned to the dining table with two cups of warm tea. Vera doesn't seem to notice Egan's presence, as she is still thinking about her problem. Vera absolutely did not want to be taken back to the old house. She didn't want to see Enoch or Lani again. The only thing that Vera cares about at the moment is having a place to live. She will temporarily put her studies aside, find a job to support herself. Then she will save money to continue her studies in the future. Yes, Vera's wish was as simple as that. Will it come true? Will Vera get what she wants?
Egan pulled up a chair and sat down across from Vera. Looking at Vera's pensive face, Egan took a moment to observe and analyze. He bet Vera is having a problem. Egan is quite curious about what Vera is thinking? What worries her? According to Egna, Vera's health has recovered very well, Kaylin confirmed so. Could it be that Vera feels hatred towards him? Well, Egan was bothered by the thought that Vera didn't like him. It was too much for Egan to bear. After all, it's personal freedom, Egan knows he can't force Vera. Biting the broker lightly, Egan was almost driven mad by his unfounded speculations. At last, Egan decided to ask Vera directly.
"Vera." Egan waved his hand in front of her. The first time she failed, Vera sank too deep into the inner world.
"Vera." The second time Egan deliberately touched Vera's hand lightly. That action startled Vera awake. She looked confusedly at Egan, while her hand on the table before, by reflex, had quickly loosened, freely released under the table.
"Sorry to startle you." Egan had a comforting word before Vera's bewildered gaze: "Why are you sitting there like that? I kept calling but you didn't respond."
"I'm sorry." Vera justifies: "I'm always thinking, so I can't hear you."
"Are you having trouble?"
Egan decided to ask directly instead of using probing tactics. Egan was so direct that Vera found it difficult to speak.
"No... It's nothing." Vera hesitated to answer. Just that small expression was enough for Egan to confirm that Vera had a confidant. Different from usual Egan would pretend not to care, leaving Vera to her comfort. This time Egan was determined to ask for clarity. He doesn't want to see Vera sad, melancholy.
"You have something to say. We can work it out together." Egan encouraged enthusiastically. It warmed her heart, but Vera's ego spoke. It tells her not to rely on others.
"It's nothing serious." Vera forced a smile, with a denial: "I'm just thinking random things, don't mind."
Egan's stern expression showed that he didn't believe what Vera said. To avoid Egan's check-in gaze, Vera quietly lowered her head, surreptitiously swallowing her saliva.
Silent. There's an uneasiness that has just formed. Vera tried to dispel the awkward atmosphere by urging Egan:
"Let's have some tea, it's already cold."
With that, Vera brought the tea to her mouth. As soon as she took a sip, she poured the tea back into the cup because the tea was still hot.
Vera frantically tried to cure her almost burned mouth by sticking out her tongue, waving her hands frantically in front of her mouth.
Honestly, Vera forgot to blow the tea to cool before drinking, she didn't even notice that the steam was still rising. Her behavior indirectly revealed that she was hiding something.
"He is very sad." Egan suddenly spoke, causing Vera to stop her action and look at him.
"I used to think this time I could make you trust me. But it turns out not." Egan interprets the meaning of the statement, Egan's voice is very sad. Obviously he feels hurt. And that made Vera feel really bad about herself. She made a big mistake.
"No..." Vera was about to justify herself when Egan interrupted:
"I understand that." Egan smiled sadly: "I'm not blaming or angry with you. I'm just disappointed in myself."
"Hey, Egan... I..." Vera tries to get Egan's attention, but he deliberately ignores her: "Egan, listen to me."
"Forgive me for making you feel uncomfortable." Egan once again interrupted Vera's turn. Vera didn't know how she should react. Egan confused her. Do not hesitate to say words that require a lot of thought.
For his part, Egan immediately stood up. He couldn't stay here to face Vera. Egan thought maybe Vera didn't want to see his presence.
"I'm going back to my room. There's no need to call me for dinner."
With that, Egan walked briskly, briefly out of sight of Vera. She just froze in place, watching Egan's eyes. An inexplicable feeling surrounded Vera's mind. What did Egan mean just now? Is he mad at Vera?
Vera just doesn't want to bother others, is it wrong for her to refuse help from others? Is Egan complicating matters? No, Vera didn't understand at all. Egan is caring, worried about her that's why. He wants Vera to share with him all her troubles. Egan wants to be Vera's support, protection, protection, especially becoming someone Vera believes in. Why is Vera so stubborn, stubbornly chasing Egan away?
In fact, Vera was happy because Egan was worried about her. And it was revealed that Vera also gradually developed feelings for Egan. During the past few days Egan has successfully made Vera open her heart. However, because of a problem of psychological guilt, Vera had to hide her feelings. Plus it made Egan feel as if Vera didn't need him. Seriously thinking about it, Vera realized that maybe she was misbehaving. Vera would love to make amends but she needs further review. That's why Vera sat there, leaving everything to a state of freedom. The brain is constantly active.
As time passed, Vera remained in her position, contemplating many things. It was evening, Vera had made a decision. She needs to have a frank talk with Egan.
...
There were three knocks on the door in succession, but the people in the room did not respond.
"Egan, it's Vera. Can I come in?" Vera waited nervously outside, but Egan didn't reply.
Maybe he sleeps? Vera thought so, she was about to turn away, not wanting to bother Egan at this moment. However, her legs could not move. After all, Vera wanted to clear things up as soon as possible. Not to mention, she also wants to explain her feelings to Egan to be understood.
"Egan, come in."
After saying that, Vera decisively opened the door to Egan's room. She slowly entered.
Right now, Egan was sitting in an armchair, eyes closed. Next to it is the music player that has turned a full circle.
Slowly going inside, Vera went to the bed to get a soft sheet to cover Egan in case of cold. Vera's hand quickly pulled the soft edge of Egan's neck, but stopped when Egan suddenly grabbed her hand.
The fist was so tight, Vera felt a slight pain. Apparently it was an instinctive behavior of Egan. He reacts when someone approaches him. It's not surprising that Egan's unconscious actions, think about what dangers he went through? Staying alert is something Egan always does regardless of whether he's asleep or awake.
"Egan." Vera called softly. He immediately opened his eyes, glaring at Vera.
"It's me, it's Vera."
When it was determined that it was Vera, Egan stopped being agitated. As if realizing he was roughly holding Vera's hand, Egan immediately let go of her hand, apologizing:
"Sorry, I didn't mean to. Are you hurt?" Egan asked worriedly.
"It's okay." Vera smiled reassuringly, she forgot the pain very quickly, that trivial pain Vera prided herself on being very good at: "It's my fault, you disturbed my sleep."
"Nothing." Egan replied, as if remembering something important, he immediately asked:
"Why am I here?"
"I want to talk to you." Vera confessed: "I was outside calling and you didn't answer, so I entered the room by myself. Please forgive me for my sudden action."
"You fell asleep." Egan awkwardly explained. He still can't believe Vera is in his room again: "So what do you want to talk about?"
Egan anxiously waited. He doesn't want to speculate anymore, afraid of getting hurt again.
Without hesitation, Vera frankly said right away:
"Please don't send me out. I'll do everything for you, just let me stay for a while. When I get a job, I'll go."
Egan seemed to wake up from his sleep when he heard Vera's words. Turns out that's what bothered Vera. Now that Egan knew Vera's worries, Vera was afraid that he would send her away after she got well. Unfortunately Egan had no such intention. What made Vera think Egan would treat her benefactor badly?
"Vera, what are you talking about? I..." Egan had a correction, then Vera interrupted.
"Please, accept my plea."
Vera lowered her head, then thought back to her kneeling on the floor waiting for Egan's answer.
