Chapter 39: New developments

Not wanting to make his girlfriend more upset by Egan's problems, Eric decided to intervene:
"Let's eat too." Eric quickly changed the subject to reassure his girlfriend: "I picked you up early this morning, so you didn't have time to eat, right?"
Eric indeed came to pick up Kaylin very early today at Egan's request. Egan wanted Kaylin to be there in time when Vera opened her eyes. He's afraid he won't be able to handle being alone with Vera. In case Vera didn't know about him yet, it was possible that Vera would be withdrawn or aimlessly insecure. The incident this morning was certainly not beyond Egan's expectations. Fortunately, Kaylin was able to rescue her in time, otherwise, Egan would leave a bad impression on Vera's subconscious. He tried to approach Vera like an unnecessary act. Thinking back to Egan, he was out of control at the time. It's good that everything is back to normal.
Kaylin also wanted to spend time with Eric. Sharing memorable moments is a wonderful thing in love. So she nodded in agreement, took Eric's hand, and let him lead her to the dining table.
As soon as I sat in the chair, suddenly there was a signal on Kaylin's phone. She looked at the content and immediately felt sad.
"What's wrong Kaylin, hurry up or you'll get cold." Eric urged, taking food to the bowl for Kaylin.
"I can't have breakfast. Rm has to go to the hospital now." Kaylin looked at her boyfriend apologetically and said: "There is an unexpected case."
"I'm sorry." Kaylin felt guilty for disappointing Eric.
"It's okay, I understand. Your work is something to be proud of." Eric said with a smile, he even squeezed Kaylin's hand, a gesture of encouragement. That is a source of energy that encourages Kaylin a lot.
"Then I'll go." Responding to Eric with the same smile, Kaylin awkwardly stood up, still holding Eric's hand.
"I'll escort you to safety," Eric said that Kaylin couldn't hide her happy smile. Kaylin didn't want to bother Eric, but once Eric took the initiative he would do it. So Kaylin didn't turn down the offer, instead of allowing herself to enjoy the comfort of being with Eric.
Kaylin's lover is very considerate and thoughtful.
Before driving the car out of the wooden house located ten kilometers away from the city, Eric left a message for Egan about his leaving and returning in the evening.

Egan Robert was standing in front of Vera's room. He felt nervous. Egan had to inhale and exhale many times to get up. A minute passed, and Egan took another deep breath before knocking on Vera's door.
Inside the room, Vera was lounging on the edge of the bed. She couldn't go back to sleep after what had just happened to her. Although Kaylin helped her a lot in staying calm, Vera still felt that she was not completely fine. Now just remember the events in the abandoned house Vera shivered. Some things are not easily forgotten, no matter how hard one tries not to remember them.
The quiet space suddenly heard a knock on the door, distracting Vera. In response, she turned her gaze towards the door, as if waiting for something to happen.
"I brought you porridge, can I come in?" Egan made a tentative remark before recklessly rushing in. He didn't want to scare Vera like last time.
Hearing a man's deep voice, Vera's body naturally fell into a state of tension. She tightened the blanket over her body to ease her uneasiness.
Seeing that Vera did not answer, Egan worriedly conjectured: "Are you asleep?"
Egan standing outside was as nervous and restless as Vera. He is very afraid that Vera doesn't want to meet anyone, especially men. Kaylin is gone, so Egan will probably have a hard time facing Vera.
It took a long time for Vera to have the courage to speak up, remembering Kaylin's words. Here she is safe, no one will harm her. That man was her benefactor.
Trying to accept reality, Vera took a deep breath and spoke:
"Come in."
Vera's voice wasn't loud, but it was enough to stop Egan's footsteps as he turned away. Thank goodness Vera accepted Egan's presence. Just now, when he saw that there was no sound in the room, Egan thought that Vera was asleep again, he didn't want to disturb Vera's sleep, so he decided to go back to the kitchen. Unexpectedly Vera stopped him in time.
With Vera's permission, Egan smiled brightly, then bravely opened the door and entered the room.
The moment their eyes met, a silence was formed. Vera looked a little restless, but the fear was not overwhelming.
"Don't worry, I have no bad intentions." Egan is the one who breaks the silence with a firm statement. Vera still looked at Egan with a questioning look, she couldn't completely trust anyone at the moment. She's had bad moments, quick recovery is hard, she needs some time.
"Please believe me." Egan seriously demanded.
Vera observed Egan's serious expression, not to mention his stern demeanor, she thought that she could accept the promise of the man in front of her eyes. So Vera gave a slight nod.
After Vera seemed to understand what she meant, Egan continued with satisfaction:
"You must be hungry. There is some porridge here, you should eat it while it's hot, it will lose its taste if it cools down."
Then Egan slowly walked towards Vera. He walked as he watched Vera's next reaction. Does she want it or not, will Vera refuse to eat porridge? If Vera is afraid or unwilling of his presence, Egan will stop.
Fortunately, Vera was able to discern everything, she also had some understanding of Egan's presence. So she no longer showed any fear when she saw Egan, much less screaming for no reason.
Egan breathed a sigh of relief when he walked towards her smoothly. He put the bowl of porridge still a little hot on the table, next to Vera's bed. Then he turned to Vera and said.
"Let's eat porridge."
"Yes." Vera timidly replied, "Thank you."
"Can you make it yourself?" Egan suddenly suggested when Vera was not interested in the bowl of porridge on the table: "Need my help?"
Vera immediately shook her head, she was grateful for Egan's kindness, but she couldn't accept it too easily. In life, there must be reciprocity, the debt must be paid. Vera saw to herself that her condition now could not be owed to anyone. She is worried that she will not be able to pay, especially the debt of gratitude. So it's best to simply refuse.
Egan did not force Vera, he smiled slightly to relieve the tension that Vera was feeling, he also did not want to make it difficult for Vera, so he said quickly:
"Then I'll go out to make you feel better."
Without waiting for Vera to answer, Egan turned on his heel and headed for the door. Before walking out of the room Egan looked back at Vera and added: "I'll come in later to clean up, you just rest in bed, don't move too hard lest it affects the wound."
"You have to assure me that you'll eat all that porridge, otherwise you won't be happy." Egan emphasized further: "Do you know?"
Vera could only remain silent, bewilderedly watching Egan's back gradually disappear. The feeling inside her was strange. She originally thought that the man would be here to supervise and watch over her, but unexpectedly she was free to do what she wanted without having to feel worried. That's great, just what Vera needs right now. For his part, Egan just wants Vera to have her own space, he will give Vera time to accept his presence instead of forcing it. Slowly Egan will reveal himself to Vera, he can wait patiently. Egan's thinking is very thoughtful and correct. Not to mention, Vera was grateful to Egan for that.

The Enoch family is busy welcoming many customers to ask to buy a home. Having received nearly ten people, but no one has bid, made Enoch satisfied. Enoch wanted the price a little higher to get more money. Greed once again troubled him when his creditor's men learned that Enoch had turned down more than eight clients in two days, and went on a rampage, causing such a ruckus in his house that neighbors nearly called the police. Fortunately, Enoch was able to convince the neighbors to stop prying into his family's affairs. As well as convincing two juniors of the creditor. Saying it out can't blame anyone, the debt collectors just want Enoch to quickly pay the money so that he can go back to see the boss. But Enoch dodged, again and again, saying that he needed more time to get a higher price. Enoch is extending the time for the father and son's exit procedures to be completed. The legal paperwork cannot be done in a day or two, it needs to be a process. And it was like God was making it difficult for the father and son of Enoch to not let the papers go through smoothly.
Now both Enoch and Lani were sitting on the fire. Both father and son of this family want to quickly escape the supervision of two strangers living in their house. For the past two days, the creditor's people have been harassing the father and son's daily activities. Whatever they do, they are scrutinized, lazily observed. Lani was also publicly molested and sexually harassed. If Enoch hadn't been at home, Lani would probably have been raped by these two debt collectors. Because of being targeted to satisfy the lusts of the two men in the house, Lani longs to get out of the house and go to her boyfriend to take refuge, but unfortunately, the two thugs don't allow it. Lani left the house unattended by either of them.
Lani's father and son's life in the past few days was no different from a prisoner being relaxed. It is not possible to contact the outside world because the phone has been confiscated by the bad guy, and he is not allowed to go out alone. Just a small move that caused suspicion was immediately extinguished. These two lunatics don't hesitate to go up and down their forearms with the elderly as well as with women. All discomfort and frustration accumulate over time, making the father and son feel suffocated. Is this just a bit of difficulty for the series of days of retribution for this father and son?
Must think of a way out of this situation as soon as possible. That is what both Enoch and Lani aim for. And it's not difficult for Lani's sinister brain to be active again, finding a solution. As promised to return, about thirty minutes later Egan found Vera's room. Vera was sitting on the bed now, her thoughts still on what had happened. Vera looks much more mentally stable now. Vera is inherently an optimist. Even though she has been through many misfortunes and hardships, she still persevered. So this time is no exception. Vera will continue to step forward.
Again the knock on the door called for her attention.
"Can I come in?"
"Come in." This time the answer was given almost immediately which made Egan feel very happy. That proves Vera has gradually gotten used to him appearing in front of her.
Quickly Egan opened the door to enter the room, as soon as he stepped inside, he spoke quickly, so that both sides would not be awkward.
"I came to clean up."
Then Egan went to the table to see how the bowl was, still porridge or empty. Egan stared at the bowl feeling relieved that Vera had heard him earlier.
"That's good, I ate all the porridge." Egan turned and complemented Vera: "Your health will recover quickly, that's for sure."
Vera said nothing but nodded in agreement with Egan's words. She also looks forward to the day she recovers completely both physically and mentally.
