CHAPTER 35

Novella's POV:-

It was Friday night, I was coming back home from work. I stayed there a bit later than usual. My house wasn't far away from my work place and I always like walking alone in the dark. It wasn't that dark though. It was half past six in the evening. I was slowly walking towards my home and was enjoying the chilly air. My phone started ringing in my clutch and I pulled it out and looked at the screen. It was none other than my best friend Rose.

"Hey, what's up?" I said and kept slowly walking.

"Where are you?" Rose asked me in an angry tone.

"I'm just walking back home. You know, Fridays are more difficult than the other days." I replied carelessly.

"Are you literally out of your mind, Ella. Don't you know about the incidents going on in our town?" Rose scolded me.

"Come on, Rose. You know I don't believe any of the people's stories about this monster or what, I don't want to know." I replied. It was true, we were having some serious problems about young girls being abducted. Some came back alive but the others were found dead into the woods. People started making stories about a monster with red eyes behind the abductions. They said he was taking them into the woods to drink their blood. Some people believed it, along with my family and friends, but not me. I was not stupid to believe some man made stories.

"I don't care if you believe it or not. I told you to come back home before the dusk everyday and yet here you are walking all alone in the dark." Rose again scolded me. I didn't know what was wrong with everyone. They were behaving like I was a baby and they all needed to take care of me.

"I will be fine, Rose. Don't worry too much about me." I replied. Suddenly, I felt someone's eyes on me. I turned around to look but there was no one except for me walking alone.

"You don't understand the risk. You are too innocent to understand the monstrous creatures like him." Rose replied in a serious tone.

"You worry too much. I'm gonna hang up because I need to get back home." I said and without hearing her further I hung up and put my phone back into my clutch.

I was walking by the treeline of the forest when I felt that again. Like someone was watching me or following me. I looked back but found nobody. I started walking faster than before. I didn't know why, but I was feeling something was wrong. I was just two miles away from my house when someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me in a darker corner. I wanted to scream but they put their hand over my mouth to block my screams. I looked at the person in front of me. He was tall and muscular. Silky long hair that reached to his shoulders. Sharp jawline with white skin. I looked into his eyes, they were green and glowing like stars in the night. He grabbed a fist full of my hair and pulled it. It didn't hurt me though. He did it to tilt my head up. My gaze dropped on his sharp fangs and my stomach turned in fear. I gulped hard and tried to push him away. But he was too strong for me to push. He leaned in and my breath hitched.

"I'm not here to kill you but to save you. You see, the people aren't wrong about the monster who is killing girls. If I let you go now, you won't make it to your house. You have to stay calm." He whispered in my ear. I licked my lips and tried to keep my breaths in my control. Just then, I saw him. The monster with red eyes. He was sniffing the air like a dog and looking around everywhere but at the place I was hiding. In a while, he stopped sniffing. He stomped his foot on the ground hard and in a flash he was gone. I looked at him and found a smirk plastered on his face.

"How did you know that he would be looking for me?" I asked him with frowned brows.

"Haven't you heard of the girls who came back home? I was the one who saved them." He replied but I saw guilt in his eyes.

"And what about the girls who were found dead in the forest?" I asked angrily.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't save them all. He is more powerful than me. Sometimes I understand his target and sometimes he gets them before I could even get the idea." He replied with narrowed eyes.

"Then it means that I was just lucky. But how did you save me?" I asked in confusion.

"He was stalking you for a few days. I was just in the right place, at the right time." He replied and shrugged his shoulders.

"What do you mean by he is more powerful than you? Are you… like him…?" I asked and he understood my question.

"You ask too many questions. Time for you to forget it all or I will be in trouble." He said and stared into my eyes. Suddenly, I saw his eyes widened. He sniffed the air once, then twice. He stepped back and in a blink of an eye, he vanished. I turned around and found a few people walking from my neighborhood. They saw me standing in a dark corner and came rushing towards me.

"Ella, are you okay dear? Your parents are looking for you. They are so worried." Mrs Brown asked me. I nodded my head with a small smile on my face. To convince them that everything is fine. They first gave me a suspicious look but then believed me. Or maybe they just wanted me to believe that they are convinced. Mrs Brown held my hand and we started walking towards my home. In a few minutes, we reached my house. Mr and Mrs Brown bid their goodbyes as they saw my parents rushing towards me.

"Where were you? We were so worried." My mom said and pulled me in a long hug.

"Mon, I'm fine. Don't worry." I said.

"That's it. You are not going to work anymore." Said my father. He looked pissed.

"Wait, my father and pissed. I don't believe this. What have I done that made him this angry at me." I thought to myself.

"Dad, I'm fine. You can't tell me to leave my job. It's my dream job." I begged him. I knew something was wrong.

"We will discuss this later. Let's go inside." My mom said and led me inside the house. As we got in, my mom led me to the drawing room. I wanted to ask them why but I got my answer when I saw two strangers sitting in our house. A man and a woman. I looked at my parents in confusion.

"Who are they, mom?" I asked in confusion.

"We are here to help you, Novella." Said the strange man. He stood up and came close to me. He leaned closer and sniffed.

"So, you were attacked, weren't you?" The strange man said and I stared at him with my mouth agape and wide eyes.
