Chapter 10 His Identity

Evelyn’s POV

He wasn't supposed to show up at my place today. Realizing he wouldn’t come stirred a pang of disappointment in me, but that feeling quickly morphed into anger.

What's more, Wyatt’s words echoed in my mind, his tone suggesting everything was my fault.

As an Alpha, he seemed blind to the damage his actions had wrought. I should have recognized this long ago.

His influence had driven my Pack to the brink. Until this issue was fully resolved, there was nothing left to discuss with Wyatt. His behavior made it seem as though I was merely throwing a tantrum, when in reality, it was his capriciousness that was to blame.

I opened the door to a pitch-black room. Taking a deep breath, I reached for the light switch, but suddenly, someone embraced me from behind.

"It's me," a familiar male voice whispered in my ear, his scent enveloping me, instantly soothing my frayed nerves.

I wondered, 'Why had he come after all? We had agreed not to be intimate tonight.'

Despite my initial resolve, I found my irritation with him evaporating.

"I told you, not today. You shouldn't have come," I said, my hands cradling his head, urging him not to proceed further. "I need rest, making love will only exhaust me more."

"No, it won't," he murmured, pulling me closer again. His lips found my neck, his soft kisses trailing a path of warmth that was hard to resist.

His voice, low and enticing, made it impossible to deny him. As he continued, the thought of being with him consumed me, leaving no room for refusal.

Leaning against his body, I was enveloped by his intoxicating scent once again.

"It's true that my money is well-spent, right?" I laughed, the lightness of the moment carrying us. He gently laid me down on the bed, his movements tender yet deliberate, as if he were unwrapping a precious gift.

As promised, I didn't need to move at all. I settled deeper into the mattress, letting go completely, surrendering to the moment.

His fingers traced a gentle path along my skin before he entered me slowly, the world fading away as he moved.

By the time I woke, he was always gone, just as before. The only evidence of his presence was the impression left on the pillow.

I reached out, touching the spot where he had lain, a part of our agreement yet a detail that piqued my curiosity about his true identity.

I wondered, 'What kind of person maintains such habits?' Almost instinctively, I patted the pillow.

"Ouch!" I exclaimed, jerking my hand back. Something had pricked my palm. Lowering my gaze, I inspected the bed to find the source of the discomfort.

There, amidst the sheets, lay a small, hard object.

It was a cufflink, exquisitely crafted with a finely cut diamond, unmistakably high-end.
It must have come off in the fervor of last night. I picked it up, studying it—its opulence was unmistakable, not at all typical of someone in his supposed profession.

"By the Moon Goddess," I sighed, the realization dawning on me.

This cufflink was familiar because I had seen it just yesterday—not on any ordinary man, but on Alpha Bennett. His presence was commanding, making it difficult to meet his gaze directly, but I had noted the distinct accessories he wore.

The design of the cufflink was too distinctive to be a coincidence; it was almost an exact match to the one Bennett had worn.

A chill ran through me as I considered the implications. Bennett was usually so reserved and enigmatic; the thought of him being involved in this manner was nearly inconceivable.

Just as I was grappling with these thoughts, Alex's knock on the door jolted me back to reality.

"Ms. Evelyn, are you ready? There's a meeting scheduled for today. We need to leave soon," he called from the other side.

Meetings, always the meetings! I dreaded the thought. I had no desire to face those people, yet obligations to my Pack made it unavoidable.

"Come in," I called out, quickly changing my clothes.

Alex entered, laying a stack of documents on the table. "These need your attention," he said, his tone businesslike as he stood by the door.

"Okay, but there’s something else," I said, pointing to the cufflink on the bedside table. "I need you to find out where this came from.”

"Ms. Evelyn, is this...?" Alex picked up the cufflink, his expression turning puzzled as he examined it closely.

"I want to know who owns it," I said, rising slowly from my chair. The weight of the situation pressed down on me as I awaited his response.

"This stuff looks so exquisite."

I'm not a huge fan of jewelry, but as an Alpha, I'm still marginally familiar with them.

It was almost impossible for the owner of this thing to be just a male prostitute. It was just too extravagant for that profession.

It's a pretty crazy idea, but... Bennett's body looks too much like the man from last night.
