Chapter 25 She's Alone
Evelyn's POV
I had no way out.
I closed my eyes in despair, waiting to be torn apart.
Then I thought about my Pack. If I died here now, what were they gonna do?
But the Grim Reaper didn't call as expected. In fact, I even smelled a familiar scent. It made me feel incredibly relieved, and even my body was less cold.
Curious, I opened my eyes.
This time, there was a faint light around me. I saw several people standing not far away.
I opened my eyes and looked at them. Bennett was standing with the man in charge, watching me, while Wyatt and Judy were not far from them.
They were all eying me, and to some point, I even thought that I was already dead, but the pain reminded me that I was still alive.
I curled up.
My wolf fell into silence again, refusing to communicate with me no matter how I called out to it. That loneliness once again enveloped me.
"Where is Evelyn's partner? Isn't it your job to ensure the safety of all participating Alphas?" Although Bennett's voice still sounded calm, I could sense his anger.
I looked up at him.
I wondered, 'Is he actually concerned about me now? Almost unreal. Just a moment ago, he clearly had no intention of getting involved in this mess.'
"I don't know why, but Evelyn doesn't have a partner," The man in charge replied, casting me a glance.
I could hardly believe his words.
This meant that the other Alphas knew who they were supposed to team up with. And only my invitation indicated that I was alone from the beginning.
I felt suffocated as if someone had planned to kill me from the start.
What was going on? I dared not even think about it.
Someone wanted me to die here, really?
"So what is she gonna do?" Bennett was still gazing at me.
Somehow, I was almost certain that he wouldn't leave me here alone.
The expressions of the others made me confused, but at least I felt relieved. At least for now, Bennett was willing to help me. That meant that no one would dare to harm me for the moment.
"The teams have already been assigned. If you wanna ensure Evelyn's safety, she can stay in Wyatt's team," the man in charge said, turning his head to look at Bennett.
"Or she can join us if you agree," he added.
What was he talking about? Whatever his suggestion was, I didn't wanna take it. I didn't wanna stay with Bennett. Nor with Wyatt!
"Evelyn!" Wyatt suddenly burst into laughter. He walked up to me and stood very close. Instinctively, I wanted to dodge, but he blocked my way.
I could only look up at him.
"If you're willing to apologize for your actions just now in front of everyone, I can forgive you..."
I stood up abruptly and walked towards the man in charge.
I'd never despised Wyatt as much as I did right now, I didn't want to see him anymore.
I looked at the man in charge and sincerely asked, "Excuse me, considering my safety, can I join your team?"
I had little hope, but this was the only way to survive.
"Cut the wishful thinking! Bennett's my best friend. How could he possibly help you?" Wyatt said anxiously.
"Bennett, you surely wouldn't accept this, right?" he asked as he turned and fixed his gaze on Bennett.
Bennett didn't say anything, but his expression did not indicate agreement. Wyatt paused for a few seconds, then his expression became visibly surprised.
"Wyatt, you can't do this," Bennett finally spoke. His voice even sounded a bit tender. I even doubted if I heard it correctly.
This was so rare, completely different from his usual demeanor. I couldn't help but raise my head and look at Bennett. Even though there was a distance between us, his scent was enough to calm me down.
"Though you want to be with Judy, Evelyn is our friend, too. We can't do this," Bennett said.
He turned to look at me. The man in charge walked up to me and put a bracelet on my arm.
Then he looked into my eyes and explained seriously, "Just now, you got the mad wolves' blood on you when you attacked them. This will attract more mad wolves."
"Wear this. It can effectively conceal your scent."
I nodded and looked at it carefully.
I thought, 'This bracelet looks exquisite. It might be an antique.'
I touched it and said seriously, "I'll protect it well."
Even though I didn't know what it was, my instinct told me that it was extremely valuable. I would make it intact and then give it back to Bennett.
"The Moon Goddess! That's the protective bracelet that only Luna in Bennett's Pack can wear. How could he give it to her?! Wyatt, look!" Judy suddenly screamed.
What?
Her words completely startled me.
