Chapter 22 Pregnant

Evelyn's POV

I anxiously clenched my fists, sighing uncontrollably.

All Alphas came here for the same purpose—that lode. They all coveted the resources there.

Compared with these Alphas, I was nobody. But I wouldn't give up this opportunity. Otherwise, my Pack would always be a tributary to Wyatt.

I took a deep breath and entered the banquet hall.

There was no turning back for me now. I had to stay calm.

Bennett and Wyatt were right over there. Bennett had almost everyone's attention. I found it hard to stay calm now.

Glancing at his profile, I felt a bit breathless.

So, I closed my eyes. From where I stood, I could faintly perceive his scent.

It was just too familiar. With my eyes closed, I couldn't tell the difference between him and that man. I had an urge to get closer to him. But when I opened my eyes, I knew I had to drop that thought.

How could he possibly be that man? But how could two men be so similar?

Some Alphas around me whispered, "I heard Alpha Bennett is getting engaged."

Curious, I paid attention to their conversations.

"Yeah, only that Alpha deserves such a super Alpha."

"If so, their Pack will become even stronger."

I didn't know which female Alpha they were referring to, but it certainly wasn't me.

I pictured his wedding. It would be any girl's dream wedding.

However, this would be nothing but bad news for me.

I tried to smooth my breathing and put a smile on my face. But I just couldn't manage.

They were like twins to me. Bennett was just like that man.

I kept telling myself that they were not the same person, but I simply couldn't breathe now.

People around me noticed something was off. They turned to look at me.

"I know you. You're Alpha Evelyn!"

"Everyone is giving their blessings to Alpha Bennett. But you don't seem happy about it? Do you have a problem with it?"

"No, it's not like that, I..."

There was no way that I could explain my reaction to it. Anyway, it didn't make sense at all. But, sadly, that was the reason.

I looked at them, feeling helpless for the first time. I couldn't utter a word.

They gathered around me as if to witness my embarrassment.

They approached me closer and closer. I tried to compose myself and stand more steadily.

"Why don't you say something? I remember it now. You resent him because of the lode. Am I right?" an Alpha asked.

"Or, you had an argument with Alpha Wyatt?" he asked again.

No! That was not it! I clenched my fists, wanting to argue with them. I couldn't let them go on like this.

"How dare you! She's my Luna!" Wyatt's voice rang out from behind me. Then, he suddenly pulled me into his arms.

Surprised, I looked up at him. Though I didn't want to be with him, he was helping me now, and I had no reason to refuse.

Wyatt glanced at that Alpha. That guy's expression was no longer as fierce as before.

"Maybe you'd like to have a chat with me?"

"Sorry, Alpha Wyatt. We were just..." They were flustered.

"It's offensive, so I don't wanna hear it again," Wyatt said, sounding extremely unhappy.

No one dared to say another word, and they all walked away. I sighed with relief, looking at Wyatt.

I whispered, "Well, thanks for helping me out."

"I owe you one more."

"You don't need to thank me. But, are you feeling OK? You look a little pale." He put his hand on my shoulder, looking concerned. Then he helped me to sit down.

This felt surreal. When I was still married to him, he was never so sweet to me.

He paused for a few seconds and then quickly said, "Has your period come?"

If he hadn't reminded me of it, I wouldn't have noticed that my period was late for this month.

So... Perhaps, I was pregnant!

But it wouldn't be a good thing if he found out about it now.

After all, I was an Alpha too, and I didn't want him to give me any strange looks.

"Well..." I struggled to find a reason to explain the situation, but my brain simply couldn't work properly.

"That's their fault then. They must've scared you," Wyatt said, reaching out his hand. But, eventually, he only patted me on the shoulder.

I was relieved he didn't hug me, which made this situation less awkward.

He spoke to the person at the door, "Beta? Tell the wolf healer to come here."

I panicked. 'No! The wolf healer? He'll find out that I'm pregnant. I can't let that happen.'

"I will punish you, if my Luna gets sick because you guys scared her." Wyatt turned over, signaling the wolf healer to come and check on me.

He was so loud that he almost got everyone's attention. Now all eyes were on me.
