Chapter 9 Preventing her from Remembering that Thing
Evelyn’s POV
I couldn’t fathom what Wyatt was thinking. The moment we signed that divorce agreement, everything between us should have ended. I had hoped it was all behind us, but clearly, I had been naive. Wyatt was always a stubborn Alpha; letting go was never in his nature.
"By the Moon Goddess, I never want to see him again!" I growled at the moon, my anger dissipating only as I neared my residential area.
I resolved never to let that infuriating man cross my path again. However, the dim evening light reminded me of the male escort who wasn’t permitted to visit tonight. Rather than entangle myself with another Alpha, I found the idea of a simpler companion more appealing. If such a man fathered my child, my offspring would likely face fewer complications.
It had been over two weeks since my last encounter with him. Doubt gnawed at me; had I successfully conceived?
Once home, I retrieved the pregnancy test I had prepared earlier. Desperation crept in as I waited for a positive result that never came. After several attempts, I lay back on my bed, overwhelmed by frustration.
"The Moon Goddess..." I sighed heavily. The absence of a positive test meant all my recent efforts had been in vain.
Where had I gone wrong? It shouldn't have been this difficult to conceive. We had been together multiple times. The only plausible reason…
I grabbed my phone and dialed Alex's number. "Does that man have any fertility issues?" I asked abruptly as soon as he answered.
I couldn’t afford to take any risks. This child wasn’t just important to me; it was crucial for the future of the entire pack. I needed to ensure his father was suitable.
My child needed to be a strong werewolf.
"What? Ms. Evelyn, why would you say that? His medical reports show no issues," Alex responded, his voice tinged with surprise at my abrupt question.
"He underwent thorough examinations before serving you, and all results came back normal.”
"Is that so? But I still haven't gotten pregnant. It's been quite some time," I replied, my frustration seeping into my voice.
I had assumed getting pregnant would be straightforward, but it was proving to be anything but.
"Well, if that's the case, it's still within the range of normal. You have to understand that conception is a matter of probability, and it's not guaranteed after just a few attempts," Alex explained with a noticeable sigh.
"There are many factors at play... you really shouldn’t stress over it.”
I knew he was right; his words were logical, and staying calm was crucial. Yet, the stakes were too high for my pack's future to simply let go of my concerns.
"Then have him come every day until I get pregnant," I declared, my impatience clear in my voice.
Alex's POV
"Alright, Ms. Evelyn. I'll let him know; he's right here with me," I said, striving to keep my voice even before hanging up the phone. I turned to face Bennett, my expression fraught with concern.
Understanding Evelyn's pressing desire to have a child, I still wondered how it could be feasible. Bennett, as an Alpha managing a massive pack, had a schedule that was bursting at the seams. Sometimes, he couldn't even spare the time for his own health appointments.
Given these circumstances, if Bennett were to visit Evelyn every night, it would likely disrupt the smooth operation of his pack.
"You heard her request…" I started, my voice trailing off, leaving the implication hanging in the air for Bennett to grasp.
He nodded, indicating his acceptance.
This meant he was willing to meet Evelyn's demands. He would be with her every night.
Surprise registered on my face as I stared at Bennett. The extent of his sacrifice for Evelyn was unimaginable.
I had no choice but to hand him the phone.
"Of course, Ms. Evelyn," Bennett responded, his tone unusually seductive. "I will ensure my services are provided punctually each evening."
A stray thought crossed my mind—if Bennett chose to, he could easily be the best in any endeavor, even those far beneath his station as a supreme Alpha. Shaking off the absurd idea, I quickly lowered my head, not daring to let my bewildered expression show.
"Very well," Evelyn replied, her voice laced with amusement at his commitment.
"I want to have sex tonight. Will you come?" Bennett continued to inquire in that very attractive tone.
I had no doubt that no werewolf in the world could say no to him.
"No, I'm too tired today." Evelyn paused for a few seconds, then turned him down.
Her voice even sounded a little hoarse, and I could hear that she was probably in a very bad way indeed. I really didn't know what to do in this situation.
The phone hung up, and once again the whole house fell into silence.
I didn't dare look at Bennett, so I just kept my head down.
"I'm going to Evelyn's residence." Bennett stood up. He was about to walk out of the house when he turned his head back to me as if he had thought of something.
He added, "By the way, she must be prevented from remembering that."
