Chapter 23 Isolated
Evelyn's POV
I stared wide-eyed at everything in front of me, unable to utter a word.
How could I explain it to Wyatt if I was really pregnant? This would only put my Pack in a worse situation.
I was desperate. Would someone help me now?
"The guy in charge of the lode is here," Bennett's voice came from behind the crowd.
It wasn't loud, but it was powerful. Even the wolf healer stood straight by my side, completely ignoring me.
The crowd parted for Bennett as he walked to the center of the room, followed by a tall man covered in runes, giving him a powerful and mysterious vibe. All eyes were on them.
This was a rare opportunity. Most Alphas came here for the ores.
So, conflicts were likely to arise among these people. I had no way to win in this situation.
"Just take a rest. Let me handle it," Wyatt let go of me. He turned to look at Judy, who had been standing next to him.
"Take care of my Luna. You hear me?"
After Wyatt raised his voice, Judy reluctantly walked towards me. She looked down at me with an awkward smile. And she had no intention of getting along with me. I wonder if she would push me off the chair after Wyatt walked away.
I thought, 'Can't you see that Judy and I don't get along?'
I had enough of it, so I felt like I gotta tell the truth, whatever it cost.
I gathered all my strength and yelled, "No! We're divorced."
Then, I became the center of attention again.
Wyatt's smile froze. He looked puzzled and grasped my hand tightly.
"Evelyn, what are you doing?" he leaned over and whispered in my ear.
I felt more pain in my chest and my whole body ached. I knew that if I didn't handle my relationship with Wyatt now, I would run into things like this again and again.
That would be worse to deal with.
I looked up at his face and slowly moved away from him.
I repeated, "I mean it. We're divorced. So, don't do that to me again."
He looked at me with a look I couldn't read. Then, it was replaced by a scowl. His face was flushed, which made him look even more horrifying.
He shook off my hand, gritting his teeth, as if he wanted to devour me.
"Well, Evelyn, I gave you a chance, but you didn't appreciate it. Then don't blame me for being heartless!"
He turned around and walked away.
I lowered my head, trying to calm down. But it was futile. I only felt more upset.
However, I felt someone was watching me.
I looked up, trying to find out who it was. But I failed.
The person in charge of the lode was standing on the stage. It seemed that he didn't notice anything happening here and was still smiling at the crowd.
In his majestic voice, he said, "The underground exploration activity is about to begin. Alphas who want to join, please follow me."
Instantly, everyone was gazing at him.
While he was chanting, a door of light slowly opened behind him.
The Alphas formed into teams and gathered together. But, I was all alone.
I realized that everyone had found their allies. And I was the only one left behind.
As a "hidden" Alpha, no one was willing to team up with me!
There was nothing I could do but stand there and watch them. They walked towards the door in teams, but no one dared to enter first, though they knew that behind that door was huge wealth.
I stood there, feeling more alone than ever before.
I thought to myself, 'Would someone come to help me?'
I somehow looked towards Bennett. Now, only Bennett and I were alone.
I knew that if someone would choose me, it would be him.
Before I could catch sight of him, he had already stepped into that door.
Then, everyone followed him into the door.
I stood there dumbfounded, having no idea what I should do next.
I kept watching Bennett's direction, still holding onto my fantasies. But Bennett and Wyatt were getting further and further away. I snapped back to reality until I completely lost sight of them.
Bennett was a super Alpha. How could he possibly be that male prostitute?
I probably had these thoughts because everyone wanted to be saved when they were scared.
I said in my mind, "You there?" A howl echoed in my head, and I knew my wolf had finally woken up.
I wasn't alone anymore.
So, I stepped forward, just like everyone else, and entered the door of light.
When my feet touched the ground again, the door behind me closed.
