Chapter 24 Mad Wolves
Evelyn's POV
This door teleported us to the underground caves where the lode was located. I saw the maps of this place. It was a huge underground city.
I wasn't scared before coming here, but now I couldn't help it.
It was cold and dark down here, and I couldn't see anything at all. So, I could only grope my way forward.
"Don't worry, Evelyn." My wolf suddenly talked to me in my mind.
I could hear it so clearly since it was so quiet down here.
"You and your mate's lives are connected. So, if you are in danger, your mate will surely come to save you. You don't need to worry."
My wolf was quite strange.
For a long time, I couldn't wake it up. I even thought something was wrong with me, but that wasn't the case as proved by rounds of examinations.
And now, my wolf was telling me these things. I wasn't sure if I could trust it.
"Stop dreaming, sweetheart." Despite the terrible situation, I couldn't help but laugh, because I was certain that no one would come and save me. Neither the people from my Pack nor my ex-husband.
"I'm not Wyatt's Luna anymore. He won't come save me. We need to count on ourselves."
I said while groping my way forward. But the atmosphere was getting strange. This place was getting scarier, and I felt danger.
My wolf whimpered.
Then, it started murmuring.
"Well, who knows? You absorbed..."
"What?" I was getting curious.
I never thought about it. I felt that all my experiences were quite ordinary.
I smelled something rotten. So, I backed off, and something brushed against my head and hit the rock beside me.
"The Moon Goddess!" I couldn't help but sigh.
It took me a few seconds to realize that it was a giant wolf's claw. And it had the blood of many werewolves on it.
Damn it!
I turned my head. Then, a large group of wolves gathered around me. Their eyes were shimmering green lights in the darkness.
After all, the Mad Wolf Disease was still wildly spreading in my Pack, and I was all too familiar with their condition.
They were a pack of mad wolves!
In this state, werewolves were stronger than normal, but they attacked solely based on instinct.
"Why are they here now?" I screamed.
These ferocious mad wolves would attack anyone who approached, and I couldn't imagine how bad the situation would be.
If I couldn't shift, I surely wouldn't survive.
"No!" I couldn't help but retreat, hugging my head for protection. But in the end, I let out a howl.
Being a hybrid, a werewolf-human, shifting had always been extremely difficult for me. But I didn't expect it to happen so easily now!
Not only had I shifted into a wolf, but I also felt lighter. More strength surged through my bones. I leaped forward with power, realizing that I had jumped a distance I couldn't even imagine before.
Even my night blindness was gone, and I could see everything clearly within the cave.
This felt awesome!
I got so excited. My beast's instincts allowed me to navigate around all obstacles in the darkness.
I swiped my claws at them, trying to stop their attacks. Maybe I couldn't beat them, but it was enough to protect myself.
But I didn't expect that my weak punch would scare those ferocious mad wolves off. The wolf I smashed fell to the ground, looking dead.
I let out an exhilarated howl. It seemed that I could put an end to this madness.
I could survive!
My wolf howled in my mind, and I repeated what I did just now, swiping my claws at those giant wolves. Sure enough, they were all scared off. But they were mad wolves, and as long as they weren't dead, they would attack relentlessly.
I could only try my best to dodge.
Then, the wolf that I thought was dead suddenly opened its eyes.
And it was dashing toward me.
"Watch out!" my wolf shouted in my mind.
But it was too late!
The two wolves in front of me had already drained my energy. I could only stare at their slobbering mouths that reeked. That was all I could do.
I didn't have the strength to turn around and fight back again.
