Chapter 11 Falling in Love
Wyatt's POV
I watched Bennett settle into the seat across from me, tension tightening my voice. Bennett had just returned to his pack, yet he sought me out immediately—this was no ordinary visit.
But the subject he broached was wholly unexpected. "Are you certain about that piece of land? Do you genuinely want it?" I found myself raising my voice despite my intentions.
I added, "It's really not the best option. I can find you something far superior. Trust me."
I wished I had misunderstood him. Bennett's hand lingered on the map, his voice steady, exuding that undeniable presence as a super Alpha.
His argument was compelling, yet…
"That land isn't for sale, regardless of the price," I replied hastily, eager not to provoke him but unable to comply with his request. "This isn't just about money."
I had other intentions for that plot of land, which currently took precedence. The hidden vein beneath it held the key to curing the Mad Wolf Disease in Evelyn's pack.
Though our relationship remained strained, I felt resolution was imminent. As soon as she apologized, I'd transfer the land to her. If needed, I was prepared to extend additional resources.
Moreover, our divorce hadn't been made public yet. To the outside world, we were still husband and wife—bound inseparably.
I realized my actions might be difficult to accept, but I had made amends where possible. In my view, this was the utmost a true Alpha could offer his mate, and there was no reason for lingering resentment.
Furthermore, with that land, Grandma would have even better prospects for recovery. She was one of the few truly kind souls who've graced my life, and her well-being was paramount to me.
Yet, I've never understood her fondness for Evelyn. Logically, they shouldn't even be acquainted.
"I need it, and I'm willing to pay whatever it takes," Bennett declared, taking a sip of his drink.
His insistence baffled me. Bennett had always been a shrewd Alpha and businessman, known for his control and acumen.
This sudden departure from his usual demeanor made me suspicious of his motives.
"I'll consider it, Ben, but what exactly do you plan to do with it? Without knowing, I can't assess whether you truly need it," I said, my curiosity piqued as I eyed him.
Bennett's Pack was vast, rich in land and resources; this piece of land seemed superfluous.
Given our brother-like bond, my concern deepened, suspecting he might be facing some trouble.
"You know you can tell me anything; I’m here for you," I reassured him.
"My Pack is doing just fine," he responded quickly.
"But that's not like you, Bennett," I countered, taken aback.
His atypical behavior led me to a wild guess. "You suddenly want this land... do you have a girlfriend?”
It was the only explanation that made sense—if he'd fallen for a female Alpha, perhaps he intended the land as a grand gesture.
"Why would you think that?" He turned sharply to face me, betraying his surprise.
His expression confirmed my suspicions.
Despite his formidable Alpha demeanor, at that moment, he resembled a flustered teenager trying to maintain composure, which I found slightly amusing.
I gave Bennett a knowing look. I was about to pat his shoulder, but as our eyes met, I hesitated and withdrew my hand.
It was hard to believe. In my mind, Bennett had never entertained romantic fantasies. His world had always revolved solely around his Pack.
The only plausible explanation was that the elders of his Pack had arranged a suitable match for him, and he and his intended had already discussed their engagement. Perhaps he planned to present this piece of land as a gift to this mysterious woman.
Yet, there was no reason for him to keep this from me.
"But I really guessed it, huh? The Moon Goddess!" I couldn't help but burst into laughter, leaning in to clink glasses with him.
Bennett remained silent, striving to keep his composure.
I was genuinely happy for him; it seemed he had finally found someone to share his life with.
"I was just throwing out a wild guess—I didn't actually think you had a girlfriend! I'm eager to meet her. Does she enjoy hunting? We could have dinner together, maybe even go hunting...like when we were kids," I suggested earnestly.
"My Pack will always be open to both of you."
If Bennett was considering marriage, it seemed this woman must be the only one who could truly capture his heart. Yet, why hadn't there been any buzz from her Pack?
She had been one to keep a low profile since our high school days.
"There will be a chance," Bennett replied, his expression unreadable.
