Chapter 18 Hidden Emotions

Alex' POV

I didn't dare to open Alpha Bennett's car door until Evelyn's figure had completely vanished from sight. Slipping into the car quickly, I hoped my movements hadn't drawn any unwanted attention.

Bennett's gaze lingered in the direction Evelyn had departed, and it took him a few moments before he turned to look at me.

Throughout the past few minutes, I had tensely hoped Evelyn wouldn't notice me each time she glanced back. Fortunately, Bennett had captivated her attention thoroughly, leaving her little energy to observe her surroundings.

This had been a risky venture for me.

"Alpha, I've followed your instructions to the letter," I said, trying to calm my racing heart. "I have taken care of all the traces, no one will find out."

In truth, there was nothing amiss with Evelyn's car. The traffic jam and accident earlier were all staged by me, orchestrated precisely to Bennett's instructions.

"You'll get a raise," Bennett said, his tone lightening a bit. He then stopped the car, and I could barely suppress my smile.

There was nothing better than this! With such an Alpha, I was willing to do anything!

Minutes later, we walked into the airport's VIP lounge together, bound for the same destination as Evelyn, though she remained unaware of our itinerary. I had made sure of that by purchasing her economy class tickets myself, confident that our paths wouldn't cross.

But the situation now was more complex than I had anticipated. It wasn't just one Alpha traveling to that region; I recognized several Alphas in business class.

"By the way, Alpha, Evelyn is investigating the cufflink you left behind." I typed the words on my phone, feeling it my duty to keep Bennett informed.

I glanced at his cuff; today, he had deliberately chosen to wear the same cufflinks as on that fateful day, which was bound to arouse Evelyn's suspicions.

My task was to allay her concerns as much as possible, yet I couldn't fathom why Bennett, with his vast collection of cufflinks, would choose to wear the same style, effectively hinting at his identity to Evelyn.

This choice only made it more likely that Evelyn would suspect him.

"But I managed to sway her with the story I prepared long ago, and now she even thinks you're too impoverished to be involved. She's even willing to offer more compensation. She's such a kind-hearted girl," I said, trying to lighten the mood.

"You didn't convince her; she merely chooses to believe you for now," Bennett countered, staring out the window. His voice was low and firm, leaving no room for doubt.

I nodded subtly.

By the Moon Goddess! If I wasn't mistaken, he even seemed to be smiling, almost as if he took pride in the orchestration of events concerning Evelyn.

Yet, this only deepened my confusion.

"Alpha, if Evelyn suspects it's you, why would she still proceed like this?" I asked, unable to hide my perplexity. "It doesn't seem like a wise choice.”

I knew all too well the dire straits Evelyn's Pack was in. Their ore reserves were dwindling, and without enough raw materials, all those afflicted with Mad Wolf Disease in her Pack would eventually succumb to madness due to the lack of necessary medication, leading to their ultimate demise. As a dedicated Alpha, she would never allow such a fate to befall them.

In her current predicament, aligning with Bennett's pack seemed like the optimal solution. Yet now, her actions suggested hesitation.

.

Could it be that she was reluctant to exploit the situation for her own benefit? Such a move would undoubtedly ease her Pack's suffering. And I was certain Bennett would be more than willing to assist.

Bennett’s gaze snapped to me, piercing like an arrow. I had no doubt he could see through to my innermost thoughts. I quickly averted my eyes, overwhelmed by the intensity of his scrutiny.

"Find the right moment to tell Evelyn about that land." He barked orders at me.

"I understand, Alpha. I'll make this right." I pushed down the doubt in my mind. I knew that Bennett didn't even want to tell me the truth about his suspicions, and I don't really need to know the answers to those questions.

But that choice of Evelyn's is probably one of the reasons she's getting this kind of attention from Bennett. She's a good Alpha, and she's special. I think there's going to be a lot of people who like her.

I know how much Bennett has done for Evelyn. Whether it's when he saved Evelyn's life or now that he's doing all this.

Even about the land, which he bought from Wyatt at the regular price and is now offering it to Evelyn at a low price...

He had been really good to Evelyn.
