Lying Woman
"Suicide? Are you guys not wrong?" asked James.
"Yes, Mr King Alpha. When we examined them, there were silver pills that they had swallowed in very large quantities. It made their hearts explode instantly, and their bodies had disappeared almost completely. Luckily, we were able to collect some samples to be analysed by our pack science experts."
"Make sure the rest of their bodies don't just disappear. We need that to find out where they came from. Tsk, damn, they're so thorough. I won't let them roam free out there after this," James said vengefully.
James' subordinates returned to their places, while James and Afrow still had to wait for the results of what the healers did to Aluna and her foetus. They were both very worried and fighting with time, they did not know what they would know after this from the healers. How the results of the treatment they did still cannot be known with certainty.
"I'm afraid Aluna and her foetus can't be saved," James said suddenly.
Afrow turned his head and gaped, this was the first time he had heard words that implied frustration come out of James' mouth. He had always known James to be confident and never afraid of anything, James' steady belief in everything was very much attached to his confident nature, and if James was already feeling worried; anxious; and desperate; then that meant James was at the lowest point of his life.
Afrow was getting angry, he couldn't accept that his best friend was being treated like this by those evil people. Although James had taken away Afrow's first chance to have Aluna, his name did not mean that he would temporarily hate his best friend. Because he knew that he liked Aluna after Aluna was owned by James, Afrow still knew shame. And Afrow has high integrity towards his best friend, because James' parents have contributed to Afrow's parents as well.
Therefore, James' sadness has also become a sadness for Afrow too. Seeing James who was frustrated, made Afrow not stay silent and even more angry because he had neglected to look after Aluna.
In the midst of the chaotic situation, suddenly Xezedha came with a panicked face. Xezedha looked uncharacteristic and sad.
"I heard bad news from the others that Aluna is in danger. How is she now?" Xezedha said with concern.
Xezedha touched James' chest and stroked James' jaw, she gave James an affectionate touch as a form of encouragement that she channeled for James. But seeing that didn't make Afrow feel touched, instead she felt that something was wrong if Xezedha wanted to do something hypocritical like this.
Afrow only acted casually when the woman came to see James, she knew that Xezedha actually did it just to act to look good in front of James. Even though all this time Aluna has always been under Xezedha's pressure and always gets bullied by that woman. But even if Aluna said that to James, surely she would not be trusted by James and James would think Aluna was trying to slander Xezedha.
Afrow is sometimes concerned about Aluna, actually in matters like this James is very slow because he cannot equally distribute justice between one woman and another. Even though what James should prioritise now is Aluna, considering that Aluna is now carrying out a very important task for the survival of the Voghmoon family.
"I'm really worried about Aluna. She is a good woman, surely I will be very sad if something very bad happens to her," said Xezedha while wiping her tears.
Hearing and seeing that made Afrow want to spit out his stomach at that very moment. The very unnatural acting felt very sickening and disgusting to Afrow, she was a witness where the woman showed a very bad character to Aluna, but in front of James she changed 180 degrees and acted like a holy woman. That made Afrow feel even more disgusted with Xezedha.
Afrow is still wondering why his best friend still has feelings and continues to fall in love with that woman. Even though it was clear that there was a very wide gap between the two of them because the James family and the Xezedha family were actually not in the same camp or they were opposition. Because of the issue of power struggle, the two families do not have a friendly relationship. In fact, James should have realised the reason why the woman's family wanted to approve James to be Xezedha's partner.
The family's reason is none other than because they want their offspring born from the union between James and Xezedha to be the owner of the throne of King Alpha.
Afrow kept thinking, isn't it ridiculous that the family would think such a thing, while Xezedha had already been assured of not being able to bear James' child because James' seed was incompatible with her womb. And there was no chance for Xezedha's family to have a descendant to inherit James' throne if that was the case.
"I wish them well. Their situation is still critical in there," James said.
"Really? What a pity. Those criminals, they attacked innocent people. Why would they do that to usurp your throne? They really have the heart," Xezedha said and lowered her face in mock sadness.
Afrow raised one eyebrow, she who was originally leaning against the wall then approached Xezedha.
"It's great that Mistress was able to figure out the reason why the villain did that," Afrow quipped.
Xezedha flinched slightly and fell silent, her face stiff and she didn't look at Afrow for a while.
"It's natural for her to guess so, if that's not the reason then what reason do you think is suitable?" said James.
Resentment rose again in the man's chest. Even though he had tried to give a code to James that there was something suspicious about Xezedha, but because blind love made James lose his mind when everything was associated with Xezedha. Even though it could be that the person he loves is the culprit of all these problems.
If it's like this, it will be difficult for Afrow to uphold justice and tell James who exactly he should suspect.
Of the many parties, Afrow is even more suspicious of this woman. Because there are many factors that support that Xezedha is intending to get rid of Aluna. Apart from James who was threatened with not having offspring, it could be that Xezedha didn't care about that. That was the conclusion Afrow thought.
"Why, do you disagree with me?" James said after Afrow remained silent without responding to James' words just now.
