Chapter Thirteen - Still not clear
Farrah
We pulled up outside Violet’s place since she was first.
“See you at school,” She smiled, “Bye, guys,” She added.
We said our goodbyes to her and waited until she headed inside. It was a good night. We only left because of curfew. I was surprised that Asher left with us, and so were his friends.
“When is your curfew?” He asked.
“In about ten minutes, why?” I asked.
“Text your parents, and tell them you will be late,” He said.
“What? No! Why? I have never been late for curfew,” I said shocked, that he would even ask it.
“Live a little, tell them you are watching the last of a movie,” He said.
They would probably be OK because according to them I was at Violet’s place. I may have told them a little white lie. I wasn’t sure what they would think if they knew we were going to a house, with three boys and no parents. My parents could be strict when they needed to be. They weren’t overbearing like some, but strict all the same.
“Fine, but if they say no, I need to go home. I am not getting into trouble,” I said firmly.
“Yeah, yeah, good girl,” He chuckled.
I glared at him for a moment before grabbing my phone and text, my mum.
Hey, I know curfew is in ten minutes, but can I stay out a little longer? The movie isn’t finished yet. It will only be an extra half-an-hour X
I waited, staring at my phone and a few minutes later my mum text back.
Hey sweetie. Yes, that is OK, but no later x
That was easy. At least she said yes. I quickly text back.
I won’t be. Thanks, X
I turned to Asher, who was looking at me patiently waiting for my answer.
“She said that is fine, but only an extra half-an-hour,” I said, “So where are we going?” I added.
“Wherever you like, I had no destination in mind,” He shrugged.
When he told me to stay out a little later, I thought he had somewhere for us to go. I still don’t know half of this town.
“I don’t know this place much,” I said, “So you chose,” I added.
“We could go to the park, there is no one there at this time,” He said.
I knew where it was, so that was a start. And it wasn’t too far from where we both said, so it would be easy enough to get home. I nodded and started the car again, heading towards the park. It wasn’t too far of a drive.
There was no one in sight, nor a single car. There was something peaceful about it. Asher opened the door to get out.
“We are getting out of the car?” I said, “It is pitch dark out there,” I added.
“Scared, baby doll?” He laughed, “Don’t worry, I will protect you,” He added, smirking.
“I do not need protecting. I am a big girl,” I giggled.
I got out of the car, shivering as the cold air hit me. The temperature had dropped from earlier. I hear Asher chuckling and closing the door. I went around to where he was.
“Come on, let’s go and get lost in the darkness,” He said, offering me his hand.
I hesitated for a second, but then took it. He smiled, linking his fingers with mine. We headed into the park and went to sit on the swings. I closed my eyes over, swinging gently. I got lost into a world of my own.
“Hey, sweetness, come back to me,” Asher said.
I opened my eyes, turning to face him.
“Sorry,” I smiled.
He grabbed the chain of the swing, pulling it closer to him. A little too close for comfort. I know what happened the last time he got this close to me.
“Don’t look so scared,” He said, laughing.
I would say I was scared. I just don’t want him trying to kiss me again. I don’t think.
“I am not scared. Why would I be scared?” I asked.
Asher smirked. He does that way too much. He pulled away, putting a distance between us. I sighed, going back to swinging gently. He gets up from the swing and begins walking away. I don’t even know where he was going. I looked around, getting a little freaked out that I was sitting alone, in the darkness. I quickly dived from the swing and ran after him.
“Asher, where are you going? And why did you leave me alone?” I pouted.
“I thought you didn’t need protecting,” He laughed.
“I don’t, but that is not the point,” I said.
Asher slipped his arm around me, pulling me close to him. I smiled and stayed close. He led us away from the park and towards what looked like a vast grassy field.
“Um, why here?” I asked, looking at him.
“You like the stars, don’t you?” He asked, and I nodded, “This is a perfect place to see them,” He added.
He slipped his jacket off, sitting it on the grass. He took a seat on it and patted the spot next to him. I sat down next to him. He lay down, and I followed his lead. I looked up and was mesmerized at the view. It was beautiful. The view was incredible.
“What do you think?” He asked, turning his head to look at me.
“It is stunning!” I gushed, “Thank you,” I added.
“You are more than welcome,” He said.
Silence came between us. It was a comfortable one, though. It lasted for a good ten minutes. I took my phone out, snapping a few photos of the sky. It really was beautiful. Asher grabbed the phone from my hand.
“Hey!” I huffed.
He turned the camera to selfie mode, moving in closer and telling me to smile. I refused at first, until he prodded my side, over and over, until I laughed, and then he snapped the photo. One was enough. I grabbed the phone from him and put it away.
“You are no fun,” He pouted.
I rolled my eyes and laughed. Asher rolled onto his side, looking at me. He placed his hand on my hip, rolling me over, so I was facing him.
“Hey, I was watching the stars,” I said.
“They will still be there in a minute,” He said.
He used his hold on my hip to bring me into him, and our bodies close once again. I could see a familiar look on his face, with the small light coming from the moon. I went to say something because I knew where this was leading, but I didn’t get a chance because his lips met mine, kissing me. It was a soft kiss, and like an automatic response, I kissed him back. It was a sweet kiss, nothing like the one we shared earlier. He smiled and pulled away from my lips.
“We should maybe head back, now, don’t want you to be late,” He said.
“Hmm, OK,” I whispered out.
Asher jumped to his feet, offering me his hand. I took it, and he helped me to my feet. He lifted his jacket, tucking it under his arm and led us back to the car, keeping hold of my hand. He only let it go to let me open the door, and for us to get into the car.
“Home time,” He said.
“Yes,” I smiled.
I headed for Asher’s place, dropping him off.
“I will see you at school,” He said, “Night, sweetness,” He added.
He climbed out of the car and headed inside. I sighed, shaking my head before getting on my way home.
Tonight has cleared nothing up! I am still confused as ever.
