Chapter Sixteen - Apology

Farrah

It was Sunday, a couple of days since I had my fall out with Asher. I still hadn’t talked to him. Even when I was with him and his friends on Friday, I still didn’t speak to him. I ended up leaving early because of him. I had enjoyed my Saturday to myself without anyone, without having Asher around. I did any homework that needed doing yesterday so today I don’t have anything to do.

My plan? Spend all day in my sweats, watch movies, read books and relax before going back to school tomorrow. My parents would let me be until dinner was ready; they weren’t in at the moment anyway. Usually, Sunday was the day I would spend with my friends back home. We would have a girls day. It made me miss them even more. I would call them later and see what is going on.

I got myself comfortable on my bed and started on my book. I had my snacks next to me. I started reading, getting lost in it. I got pulled away from it when there was a knock at the front door. I had no clue who it was. I was going to ignore it, but then it went again, but louder this time. I groaned, getting to my feet, and headed downstairs.

I peered through the peephole, surprised when I saw who it was. Asher. What is he doing here? I was tempted to ignore it and go back to my room.

“Farrah, I know you are there, please open the door,” He said.

I rolled my eyes at him, even though he couldn’t see me. I opened the door, and he was standing there with a tub in his hand.

“I come with cookies and muffins,” He said, handing me the tub.

“Why are you here, Asher?” I asked, taking the tub from him.
I was mad at him, not his Grandma, and that is why I took the tub.

“To say sorry, again,” He said.

“For what? Being an ass? Ignoring me? Acting like I don’t exist?” I asked.

“For it all,” He said softly, “So can you please stop being mad at me?” He added.

“Why did you act that way? And don’t lie to me,” I said firmly, “If you plan on lying you can just go right now,” I added.

“Because around you I am different, and I don’t like that,” He said honestly, “I am usually a complete asshole to everyone, but with you I am nice, I don’t do nice,” He added.

He ignored me because he is too nice around me. That is a new one.

“And I thought I was the strange one,” I said, stepping aside to let him in.

“You asked me to be honest, and I was honest, even if that makes me strange,” He laughed.

I rolled my eyes, giggling and got him to follow me into the kitchen. I made us a coffee, and we took a cookie each before sitting down. I know this was probably not my smartest idea, letting him back in, but things are weird when it comes to Asher. Yes, he is an ass, but on the other hand, I enjoy my time with him, when he isn’t an ass. It is all a little complicated.

“How was your Saturday?” He asked.

“Uneventful, you?” I asked.

It would seem we are taking part in small talk. I hate small talk.

“Was at a party last night,” He said.

“Your girlfriend there?” I chuckled.

“Maisie is not my girlfriend,” He laughed, “But, yes, she was there,” He added.

I stopped myself from rolling my eyes. I don’t know why he keeps going back there, and I don’t get why she keeps letting Asher do what he does to her. It was none of my business.

“Cool,” I said, taking a bite of my cookie.

Cool? That is the word I chose to use. I could have come up with a better word.

“Cool?” He chuckled.

“Oh hush, and eat your cookie,” I said, shaking my head.

“Yes, ma’am,” He said, shoving nearly the entire thing in his mouth.

Silence fell between us for a few minutes. I decided I should make one thing clear with him.

“Asher, see if you ever do that again to me, act the way you did, we are done,” I said, “There will not be another chance,” I added, firmly.

I wasn’t letting him mess me around like that. I have had enough of people treating me like I am nothing. I refuse to let it continue to happen.

“I promise I will try,” He said, “Friends?” He added.

“Friends,” I said.

He smiled widely. I was still a little unsure about it. I will keep my guard up slightly around him still.

“Do you have plans for today?” He asked.

“Just doing nothing, relaxing, reading, watching movies,” I said.

“I have a better idea,” He said, “Come to mine, have dinner, and we can watch a movie at mine. My Grandma has been asking after you,” He added.

I had a feeling it was something to do with his Grandma that he was here, apologising.

“Yes, I can do that,” I smiled, “But, you will need to let me get ready,” I added.

“Take your time,” He said.

I finish my coffee, having another cookie before heading up to my bedroom to get changed. Asher deciding he was coming with me why I don’t know. We got into my room, and the moment we did, he started snooping around.

“Stop being so nosy,” I said.

“I am curious,” He said, “What better way to know someone than looking at what they have in their bedroom,” He added.

“There is a better way, ask them,” I laughed.

“But people just tell what they want people to hear,” He said, “You see what surrounds them, you get a more honest idea,” He added.

“Just don’t be snooping too much,” I said, “I will be back in a minute,” I added.

I took my clothes to the bathroom to get changed. I wasn’t doing it in front of Asher, that was for sure. I stripped out of my sweats, pulling on leggings, a tee and a hoodie. I sorted my hair, and I was ready to go.

By the time I went back through, Asher had made himself comfortable on top of my head. I giggled, shaking my head. He looked up at me, smiling. He motioned me over to him. I went, standing at the side of the bed.

“Can we stay here for a bit? This bed is very comfortable,” He said.

“Yes, but not long because if my parents come back and find you in my bed, you will be a dead man,” I said.

My dad would lose it if he found a boy in my bed.

“Ten minutes, and then we will go,” He said, patting the spot next to him.

I raise my brow at him.

“I don’t want anything from you, calm down, just come and lay next to me for a bit,” He said, chuckling.

I hesitated for a moment, but he moved over, giving me more space. It put a more considerable distance between us. I lay down next to him, and he rolled over to his side to face me.

“I am sorry, Farrah,” He said softly.

“I know,” I smiled.

He smiled, reaching over, and brushing the hair away from my face. My eyes closed over, automatically. I hear him sigh, and then quickly pulled away from me, rolling onto his back again.

That was a little strange. What was that about? I didn’t say anything. I let it be. I don’t think I will work out what is going on his head.

“We should go,” He said, getting up from the bed.

“Yes, good idea,” I said, following his lead.

“We can take my car this time since I finally have it back,” He said.

I nodded, and he placed his hand on the small of my back, and we headed out. I know this wasn’t my original plan for today, but that was OK. I send my mum a quick text on my way out, telling her I was away out with a friend, not saying who though.

I can only hope that when tomorrow comes, he will still be acting the same way towards me that he seems to be today.

Time will tell, I guess.
