Chapter Twenty One
Ear-piercing noise broke her raw dormancy sleep. She stirred with a faint squeal. Her eyes opened with a snap and roamed around. She sighed when she found herself in her room instead of the dungeon tied up. She gawked at her hands and feet. They were not tied. She was thinking they would treat her like that poor person in the horrible colourless square area. Her heartbeat was louder. Stepping out of the mattress, she trudged toward the window. Her eyes widened with dread. Four guards were on the ground holding their hands. She saw blood on their hands. Her eyes caught the two guards who stopped her to come in the morning. She glimpsed him standing with a gun. She couldn't see his face. She faltered back. She clearly remembered the guard's words and her words to them. She didn't want to be the reason for anyone's death.
' I've to stop him before he kills them. ' She thought.
She opened the door. There were two heavy, broad-bodied, guards out of the door. She panicked. She thought to close the room and hid herself. It was her fault although she didn't consider it bad to go out. She couldn't let them suffer for the fault in her husband's eyes. Which was her fault, though she didn't consider it that way. She inhaled deeply. She stepped ahead and waited for their action. They were still. She galloped down the hall, ignoring the pain.
" Ma'am! Please stop. " Her new bodyguards were running back to her.
It puzzled her. Why were they not catching her?
' Good for me, she thought.
She reached there. Liam was still holding the gun, pointing at them. Trio brothers' heads swivelled at her. She was taking long breaths. Her eyes were on Liam whose gun was charged at them. When his eyes locked with her. He lowered his gun and beckoned at Danny.
" D d..... " She couldn't speak with fright.
Her eyes met with Danil. Fear clawed her, sending shivers in her body. She saw Liam coming at her. He was clutching a gun. She was frightened. She stepped back while gulping from her dry throat. He looked at her and then followed her gaze. He handed the gun to Danil.
" No gun. No one will harm you." Liam said, walking near to her.
" It's not the-re fau-lt. I don't know I w wasn't a-llowed to g-o o ut. D don'tk k k-illl " She stuttered in dread. Tears were running down her cheeks. He drew his hand near her face. She flinched. He stopped.
" As I said. You're safe. " He said softly to her, taking a long stride toward her. He ran his thumb under her eyes.
She was scared of them but she was worried about the guards. It would torture her every second if he'd harm anyone because of her.
"W w.. . " She couldn't speak again. She touched her face. Tips of her fingers got wet with tears.
" You're allowed and can go everywhere, not without your guards. " He wrapped his arm around her slim waist.
She shivered under his touch and tried to pull away from him. She looked up into his eyes and it was soft on her. Immediately she controlled it. But she was still shivering. She was looking at her bare feet which got dirty after walking all over the place. She felt pain in her foot which was wounded.
Her brain was numbed. She was standing there afraid, weeping and numb in front of him. She didn't expect things to be messed up like this.
❁ ❁ ❁
He never expected this would come like this. She was looking white with fear. He held a tablet in his second hand, " Read it. " He demanded.
She reluctantly took it from him. She sucked in her breath and shivered when she saw the display of it. She dropped the tablet. He quickly held it in his hand from one corner.
He turned the screen toward her, " It's the same guy. You saw in the basement." He stopped saying to look at her frightened face. He could see goosebumps on her exposed neck and arms, " Read it. " He said softly.
She stared at it in horror. He saw her eyes moving on it. After ten minutes, she lifted her eyes to see him and then Danil to Kairo and back at him.
" Really! He kidnapped girls and and.. ..... " She couldn't complete it.
He beckoned at Kairo. Who took it from his hand.
" Yes, he is a scoundrel from Detroit. He kidnapped girls and kids. He.. . . . " Kairo was cut off by her.
" I don't wanna hear. It is horrible. " She shook her head. She didn't want to know how human traffickers work.
He was relieved when her stuttering went away from her tongue obviously with fear she stuttered.
" So now, do you understand? Why did he do that? " He asked her, moving along with her toward Danil.
She nodded and instantly hid behind him using him as a shield.
" I'm I'm s-sorry, Danil. I bit you on your hand. " She apologized.
" It's okay. You do not need to be scared, right? You can come out from behind your husband." Danil said to Rose.
" Y yes. " She stepped out from behind him and passed him a weak smile.
" Now, it's settled. " Danil smiled, exhaling.
He gazed into her eyes. He knew she wanted to say more. It was her fear that was preventing her.
" I'm feeling hungry. Should we eat? " Kairo asked.
" Yes sure, " He said.
" Why do you have a gun? Why did you shoot them? " She asked.
" They were not doing their duty. They are paid for work, not for playing cards. " He said.
" You can show th-em out. Why guns? " He saw the horror in her eyes.
" Because we're businessmen. We can keep the gun. " Danil smiled.
" Oh! Ok. Why did you shoot them? " She asked again.
" You shouldn't think so much. " Kairo smiled at her.
She managed a nervous smile on her lips. Her hands were joined together near her belly. He ran his fingers through his hair.
Fuck! I can do anything to have her beautiful smile back on her adorable face. - he thought.
He gazed back at her face. She was looking lost in her thoughts.
' I was damn sure. She was pretending to be convinced. I've to keep a close eye on her, he thought.
He didn't want her to acquaint him with the reality of his family. Although it wasn't a lie about the man, he still felt bad for lying to her. For her, he was a businessman and he wanted to think this, only This. He wanted to hide the second side of him.
" Are you sure? She is convinced? " Danil whispered in his ear.
" No. " He retorted.
" Same. If you allow, I can appoint some undercover guards around her for her safety." Danil suggested.
" My undercover guards are already invigilating her. I knew she was out in the morning. I didn't want to bring it up, so I pretended. But yeah! I wanted to shoot them. " He wrinkled his brows and glared at them.
" But Danny is Danny. " Danil sneered, " Should we shift the dungeon to the next building? " Danil asked.
" Sure, I was thinking the same. " He said.
" Brothers! I think! She needs a doctor." Kairo said, glaring at the narrow brick aisle on the lawn. She was walking five feet away from three brothers.
He observed it and found blood on it.
" Fuck! Your wound. " He rushed toward Rose and picked her up.
" I'm fine. " She whispered.
" Yeah! I can see that. " he retorted.
" Hello! doctor. " Danil was already on his phone.
He hurried toward the room, " You are not stepping out of the room now." He reclined her on the mattress and stared at her to make sure he had made himself clear to her. She nodded hesitantly.
