Trevor’s patience was wearing thin. “He invites me, but he’s late?” he muttered, glancing at the restaurant manager.
“Apologies, Mr. Harper. Mr. Wilson is en route. He should be here shortly.”
“I don’t need apologies. I need proof.”
With a wave of his hand, Trevor dismissed the manager, who quickly vanished from view. Just as Trevor was about to sit back, two bodyguards entered, carrying a small child. The boy’s legs kicked the air as he struggled.
“Let me go! If my mom finds out you're treating me like this, you'll be in big trouble!”
“Sir, we found this child lurking outside. It seemed like he was trying to spy on you.”
Trevor’s eyes narrowed as he studied the boy in the red jacket. His expression hardened. “Did someone send you to follow me?”
“No. I wanted to come myself. Tell your guards to put me down!”
Trevor raised a hand, and the guards set the boy on his feet.
“Why were you following me?”
The boy bit his lip, glaring at Trevor. “Is that not allowed?”
Trevor sighed in disbelief. “What’s with today? First, delays, and now children?”
“Do you know what kind of place this is?” Trevor asked, his tone challenging.
“Of course,” the boy replied confidently, pointing to a sign on the wall. “This is a VVIP room, for very important people.”
“You know that important people discuss serious matters here, right?”
The boy blinked, unfazed. “I don’t care about your serious matters. I just wanted to see what’s inside.”
Trevor’s eyes narrowed further. Leaning closer, he observed the boy. He noticed the child’s striking gray eyes, a mirror image of Balqis's own. The resemblance was uncanny.Trevor's curiosity was piqued. "You have a lot of guts for someone so young," he said, studying Macey closely. "But you have to know, this is a place where only trusted individuals are allowed."
Macey puffed out his chest and gave a defiant look. "I’m not afraid of you. I just wanted to see what important people do."
Trevor's expression softened slightly. He was used to dealing with adults who were wary or intimidated, not children who confronted him so boldly. "Alright, little one. Since you're here and clearly not going anywhere, why don’t you tell me why you're so interested in this room?"
Macey fidgeted, glancing around. "I just wanted to know what makes it so special. And I thought it would be fun."
Trevor chuckled. "You’re a very brave boy. I guess you have a point—sometimes we adults take our important rooms too seriously. But I have to ask, are you related to someone important?"
Macey tilted his head, still defiant. "Maybe. But even if I am, I just want to see things for myself."
Trevor nodded, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Alright, you’ve had your tour. I’ll let you stay for a bit longer, but if you get in the way of anything, I’ll have to ask you to leave."
Macey grinned, clearly pleased. "Deal. Thanks!"
Trevor's eyes darted back to the boy. ‘Did someone deliberately terrorize me through these gray-eyed kids? Could it be Ben? He was the one who invited me here.’
“What do you want to see?” Trevor asked, his hands clasped together on the table. He was curious about how the clever toddler would respond.
Macey stepped forward confidently. “This is my first time in a luxury restaurant. I wanted to see how the VVIP room is different from a regular room.”
“What’s your name, little boy?”
“Why do you ask?” Macey retorted.
Trevor smirked. “To check the guest list. I want to see if you’re a visitor here or a little spy.”
Macey puffed out his cheeks, considering his options. “Macey Maraj,” he finally said.
‘Maraj again?’ Trevor thought, incredulous. ‘Someone is definitely trying to mess with me. First Kara, then a girl who looks like me, now a boy who looks like her.’
Trevor glanced at his assistant and raised his index finger. Jeremy approached, listened to Trevor's whisper, and then left the room.
Seeing this, Macey’s breath caught. “What did you say to him?” He was worried that his mother and Emily might get into trouble.
“Something a little spy like you shouldn’t know.”
“I’m not a spy!” Macey protested.
“So what?” Trevor put his hands in his pockets and walked over to Macey. “A child actor paid to trick me?”
Macey’s cheeks puffed up even more. He placed his hands on his waist. “If I were an actor, I’d be on TV, not here.”
Despite the boy’s adorable defiance, Trevor wasn’t amused. “Then you must be getting paid for your speaking skills. Who asked you to scare me?”
“Your body is much bigger than mine. Even though I’m strong, I’m sure you’re ten times stronger. How could I possibly scare you?”
Trevor sighed again, frustrated that he was being out-argued by a toddler. “You’re right. The one who should be afraid is not me, but you. What punishment do you think is appropriate for a little intruder like you?”
Macey’s fingers intertwined nervously. “I’m not a spy. I’m a good boy. If you don’t believe me, that’s fine. I won’t disturb you anymore.”
Macey turned to leave, but a second later, Trevor grabbed the collar of his suit, jerking him back.
“Hey, what are you doing? You don’t want me here, right? Then let me go!”
Macey struggled, but Trevor’s grip was too strong. The more he struggled, the tighter his bow tie became.
“Let me go! You’ll regret it if my mother finds out!”
“Confess, little boy! You can go back to your mother after that.”
“I have confessed. I’m a good boy!”
Tears welled up in Macey’s eyes, but he fought to keep them from falling. He didn’t want to seem weak.
“Oh my God, Trevor! Are you bullying a toddler in my family’s restaurant?”
Macey turned toward the door, where a man in a brown suit had just walked in. Thinking the man would defend him, Macey immediately pouted.
“Mister, please help me! I came to this restaurant to have fun with my family, but this man accused me of being a spy. He won’t let me go.”
Trevor snorted at Macey’s sudden change in demeanor. “This boy eavesdropped on me. Do you want to defend him? Or were you the one who sent him to test my patience?”
Ben raised both eyebrows in response to the accusation.
