♥ Chapter 28♥
Elara Sinclair.
We arrived home and sighed.
“Ready?” I shot a furious look at Axel, who just laughed at my reaction. “Don’t make that face, love. It’ll be fun.”
Hearing him call me “love” always melts my heart.
“You’re asking for a slap from my mom,” I grumbled. “If I get scolded because of you, I swear I’ll get even.”
He planted a kiss on my cheek.
“I’m ready to face the consequences.” This man is going to drive me crazy.
“Let’s go, Axel.”
We walked into the house, and I was quite anxious about Orion’s reaction.
“Hide the snake in your sleeve; we’re going to surprise him,” Axel whispered, hiding the reptile.
I did the same, and we headed inside.
“We’re home!” I announced.
“Finally! Where’s my present?” Orion demanded, coming towards us.
“Don’t be so impatient, kid,” I teased, and he huffed.
“Shut up and give me the present.” He reached out to Axel.
“All right, but first, close your eyes,” Axel challenged.
“Are you going to smash a pie in my face?” I laughed at that.
“I wish! If I did that, Thalia would kill me.”
“And I really would.” Our mom came out of the kitchen with our dad. “What are you giving him? I’m curious.”
I rolled my eyes at Axel’s mischievous smile.
“Close your eyes, Orion,” he huffed.
“Mom, if he smashes a pie in my face, kill him,” Orion warned.
“Will do, dear.”
Axel moved closer to Orion, letting the snake slide from his sleeve into our brother’s hand.
“Wow!” Our mom exclaimed, surprised.
“I got a python!” Orion shouted, excited. “Oh my God! Thanks, Axel.”
He sat on the couch, fascinated by his new pet.
“I told you he’d be happy,” Axel commented, smiling.
Our mom quickly pulled Axel’s ear.
“Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Thalia, that hurts,” he complained, and I couldn’t hold back my laughter.
“I warned you!” I shouted so he could hear.
Our dad approached Orion.
“Now the pranks will increase,” he said, observing the snake in Orion’s hand.
I sat next to Orion.
“He’s a male, and this one is a female.” I lifted my sleeve, showing the snake coiled around my wrist.
“Wow!” Orion ran his hand over her head. “So beautiful! Are you keeping her?”
“Yes, she’ll be mine and Axel’s,” I replied.
“Let your mom see this, Elara,” our dad said, smiling.
“Oh, she’s not staying here, Dad. She’ll be at Axel’s house, so there’s no problem.” He shook his head.
“You know these snakes get huge, right?” He asked, and Orion and I nodded. “Orion, just letting you know, no pranks and no scaring people.”
“All right, Dad. I won’t use him for my amusement.” We both looked at him in disbelief. “I’m serious, geez.”
“Dear, we can’t trust you,” he huffed at our dad’s words.
“When is Mom’s friend arriving with her kids?” I asked curiously.
“I think they’re just about here.” And as soon as he spoke, the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” I said and went to the door.
I opened it, and two kids rushed past me, nearly knocking me over.
“Brenda, Charles! I’ve told you not to enter people’s houses like that,” Mom’s friend scolded them.
“Sorry, Elara,” they said in unison.
They were non-identical twins. Sometimes I thank God my mom didn’t have twins. Imagine two Orions? God forbid. It would be a nightmare.
“It’s okay, make yourselves at home. Please come in.” I stepped aside to let her in.
“Thank you, Elara. I’m sorry, these two are hopeless.” I shook my head, showing it was no problem.
“They’re kids, it’s fine.”
Pauline, a stunning and captivating woman at thirty-eight years old, has been married for over ten years. I can’t wait for the day I get to marry Axel. But I need to push these daydreams aside; it’s still early, after all, we’ve only recently started dating.
We returned to the living room and saw the twins clinging to Orion. I stifled a laugh at his look of displeasure.
"He really isn't a fan of my kids," she murmured, just to me.
"Don’t take it personally. Orion isn’t the type to like too many people, except for family. And even then, it’s questionable," I replied.
"I know."
"Is this your snake? Cool! What’s its name?" The twins asked together, visibly excited.
"I haven’t named him yet," Orion replied, annoyed.
"Then we can help. How about Julio?" Brenda suggested.
"No."
"How about Felix?" Charles proposed.
"Absolutely not!"
They began suggesting various names, but none were to Orion’s liking. This kid is a real challenge; the twins actually came up with some cool names.
"I'm surprised Axel hasn't shown up yet," I said with a laugh. "What happened?"
"He’s getting a scolding from my mom for giving Orion a snake as a gift." She laughed too.
"That Axel never changes."
I noticed my dad had already left the room; he’s not a big fan of Pauline’s kids.
"And how’s your husband?" I asked out of politeness.
"Oh, he’s doing well. Working a lot." I noticed her expression, and seeing my questioning look, she sighed. "I'm starting to suspect he’s cheating on me."
"Why do you think that?" I asked, not understanding.
