Chapter One Hundred and Fourteen
David and Cecile both stood up to talk to a doctor who had just walked into the waiting room. Kelley stared pointedly at them and Cecile’s hands went to her face as she cried. David smiled then and nodded his head at the doctor. Kelley knew he'd keep quiet about Marella and Blain leaving, but he would tell Lee. Lee deserved to know. It was a small relief knowing she was well enough to travel but he worried about her state of mind. She needed to be around family now, people that could look after her and help her in this time of loss.
Lee would be okay, he had to be. Kelley sat back down next to Milana who was still asleep. He’d wait until he could see Lee. He sent a text to Connor to arrange for someone to sit outside Lee’s room and put his phone away when Connor responded. He wanted to ask about Kirk, but he wasn't sure if he could handle anything else right that moment. The only reason he wasn't already half insane was because Lee had survived, Marella would survive too and Milana was right next to him and for now his family was safe.
Kelley waited another hour before he could go in to see Lee. Milana had woken up in the process and Kelley had gotten her coffee. His phone was eerily quiet and he was worried about Mason. Jesse had just looked at him, not saying a word. He hadn't needed to say anything, Kelley knew what Jesse would say.
Kelley waited outside in the hallway as David and Cecile walked out of Lee’s room. Cecile hugged Kelley and wiped tears from her eyes. “He says he doesn’t remember what happened, Kelley.”
“The police will find whoever did this. I’ve already arranged for a guard outside his door and cleaners to clean the house. The important thing now is that Lee’s okay.”
Cecile nodded her head and started walking towards the elevators. David remained behind and looked Kelley straight in the eye. “Find them before the police do and take care of them.”
“I promise, David.”
“It’s a promise I expect you to keep, Kelley. I don’t know everything you lot are involved in but I do know that you’re fighting a war and every war has casualties. Lee’s not one of them, do you hear me?”
Kelley nodded his head. David looked back at Lee’s room and then joined his wife at the elevator. Kelley opened Lee’s door and closed it behind him. Lee opened his eyes and gave Kelley a weak smile.
“Gonna take more than four bullets to put me down.”
Kelley shook his head. “Let’s not test that theory again, okay.”
“One of the shooters was Lewis Blackwell.”
“How sure are you, Lee?”
“Idiot wore his Private Alumni Football ring, the one he so proudly displays at all times.”
“I’ll take care of it, I promise.”
“Keep him alive, Kelley. I want to end him.”
Kelley pulled a chair closer to the bed and leaned closer to Lee. “Blain left. Marella asked for his help to disappear. He’ll stay in contact.”
Lee nodded his head. “That’s good. She needs to disappear until this all blows over.”
“She didn’t want to see you, Lee. She said you got what you wanted.”
Lee’s jaw clenched and his eyes betrayed his emotions. “I never wanted the baby to die, Kelley. Doesn’t she know why I went there last night?”
“She didn’t give me a chance to explain that. She’s hurt, Lee, but she loves you. Give her time to come to terms with everything that’s happened.”
“I’ll give her until these fuckers are all dead. This is beyond personal now, Kelley. They need to be put down, all of them.”
“You’ve got Juan on the door so get some rest. Nobody’s getting in here.”
“Thanks. How’s Mase?”
Kelley lowered his gaze and took a deep breath. “Too much shit’s happening all around us, Lee. Kirk took Andrea to Mason’s house. She was raped and badly beaten. I haven’t heard anything from Mason at all.”
“This is war, Kelley.”
“I’ll be heading to the house soon, Connor might have some information from Kirk and Black. Nobody else knows about Blain and Marella leaving and I want to keep it that way for as long as possible, give them a chance to disappear before anyone knows they've left.”
“It’s time for Phase Zero, Kelley.”
Kelley nodded his head grimly. “I know, Lee. It’ll start tonight.”
The door opened and Mason rushed inside, his eyes full of grief and relief at seeing Lee. “Thank God, Lee.”
“You shouldn’t have come, Mason.”
“You’re my brother, Lee, where else would I be? Do we have any leads yet? How’s Marella doing? The baby?”
“She left with Blain or will be leaving soon, disappearing for now. Baby didn’t make it.”
“Shit, Lee, I’m so sorry.”
Kelley placed his hand on Mason’s shoulder and squeezed. “How’s Andrea doing?”
“Carey sedated her. They really messed her up, Kelley, she’s got bruising and tearing, cracked ribs, two loose teeth, a broken cheek bone, split lip, one eye’s swollen shut, cracked bones in her wrist and one ankle’s twisted. Drummond stopped by and he helped Carey a lot. Said he’d check in again, she’s not worse off at my house than she’d be in a hospital.”
“Those bastards need to pay.”
“They will, Lee.”
Mason’s expression was stoic and serious, anger flitting across his eyes. “What’s our next move?”
Lee shuffled to a sitting position, grimacing with the effort. “Phase Zero.”
“The moment we get everyone on Scelto Island, we take them down.”
The three of them shared a look, their bond just growing stronger. They'd get through this, just like they'd gotten through everything else. Together. Kelley wasn't about to let down anyone else, with everyone on the island, he'd be able to think more clearly, take more definitive action without putting his family at risk.
He didn't care who liked it or not but things had to end. The Elites had to be stopped.
