Chapter Sixty
Kelley drove to a building he owned in St. John’s City and pulled his Escalade into an underground parking lot. They were still busy with renovations and the office space wouldn’t be available for letting for another two months.
Kelley slipped inside the non-descript sedan and drove the two hours to Yorkdare Bay. He parked the sedan on the corner and pulled the hoodie over his head. The SUV was parked in the parking lot at the back of the club and he headed towards it.
Kelley slid underneath the SUV and located the brake pipes. Kelley took out his knife and punctured the pipes. Cutting the brake lines wasn’t as effective as people thought and it was harder to do in reality. The massive leak he just caused would be effective enough for what he wanted.
He was careful not to get any of the brake fluid on himself and left the car as the brake fluid dripped down onto the tarred parking lot. Back inside the sedan he took out the burner phone and typed out one single message.
Unknown – Get to the house now! They know everything!
Kelley waited five minutes before Petey Johnson rushed from the club alone and ran to his SUV. The car started and drove away. Kelley followed at a slower pace and watched Petey speed up on the long stretch of road.
Three hundred yards later the road swerved to the left and you were forced to slow down, that’s when his brakes would fail. Kelley didn’t feel anything as he followed Petey and watched as he neared the curve in the road.
Petey tapped on his brakes and he looked up with a frown when his car didn’t slow down. He took the curve blindly and he kept control of the SUV. Right ahead was an intersection and Petey swallowed nervously as he realized that his brakes weren’t working at all.
Kelley sped up after the curve and he watched stoically as Petey’s car went over the intersection and his rear bumper was clipped by another car. The SUV spun wildly and then started to roll. The other car had kept driving and Petey’s SUV came to a halt on its roof.
Kelley parked the sedan and ran towards where the SUV lay. Petey’s window was open and he knelt and peered inside the SUV. Petey was barely conscious and Kelley looked him in the eye. “Payback’s a bitch, Johnson.”
Petey took laboured breaths as Kelley straightened to his full height and walked calmly back to the sedan. He drove back to St. John’s City in record time and pulled the sedan next to his Escalade. Nobody would ever know he had been there, even if Petey remembered seeing him.
The cameras on the highway wouldn’t have registered the tags on his Escalade and he smiled as he hoped that Petey was in a world of pain. Blaire and Blain had shown him how to hack a phone and he erased the text from Petey’s phone.
Kelley had just sat down at the bar when his phone rang and he took it from his jacket pocket. “Hey, Mase.”
“Where are you?”
“Blue’s.”
“See you in ten.”
Kelley pocketed his phone again and looked at the two women across the bar from him. They’d do, he decided and ordered a drink for Mason. The bartender had just placed it in front of him when Mason sat down next to him.
“Have you been here the whole night?”
“No, Mason, I just arrived for a breather.”
Mason slapped him on the back in a brotherly fashion. “Damn, man, because you’ve got that look in your eyes.”
“What look?”
“That hungry look.”
Kelley laughed as they ordered another drink and twenty minutes later they were leaving the bar with the two women Kelley had spied earlier. Kelley took them to a hotel he had shares in and within minutes the receptionist slid a suite’s key to him.
In the elevator, Mason had his hand under the redhead’s top and Kelley grinned as he looked at the blonde next to him. She was glued to his side and she smiled seductively at him as the elevator doors opened and he stepped outside.
Kelley led the blonde to one bedroom while Mason led the redhead to the other bedroom. He kicked the door closed and took his jacket off placing it neatly on the sofa. The blonde stood in the middle of the room and looked at Kelley.
“You haven’t even asked my name.” She was twirling a lock of her hair around her finger.
“Does it matter? I want sex, you want sex, no need to complicate things.”
“How did you get that scar?”
Kelley took his shoes and socks off and then pulled his t-shirt over his head. “It doesn’t matter. Take your clothes off, Heather.”
“How did you know my name?”
“I overheard Bethany call you Heather. I’m not an asshole on purpose but this is a one-time thing, we’ll have fun and we’ll go our separate ways.”
“Hmm … maybe it’ll be so good that you’ll want to come back for more.”
Kelley grinned but he knew that in a few hours, he’d forget her name and never think of her again. She wanted to feel like she mattered and that she could change him. He’d let her think that for a while but he had no intention of ever seeing her again.
“What do you like, Mr Mysterious?”
“You naked on the bed.”
Heather had just gotten on the bed when Kelley flipped her over on her stomach and pushed roughly into her from behind. He pressed her shoulders down and thrust into her. The first thrust was a shock because she hadn’t expected it but everything after that was just right.
Heather felt tired, sore and sated. Kelley had known exactly what he was doing and she lay on the bed panting as Kelley stood up and started putting his clothes back on. He threw the condom into the dustbin and washed his hands in the adjacent bathroom.
“Are you leaving?” Heather had pulled the sheet up around her.
“I told you it was a one-time thing.”
“You’re an asshole.”
“True, but you knew exactly what you walked into. Goodnight, Heather, feel free to stay the night, breakfast’s complimentary.”
