Chapter 21 Dirty and Throw Away
Brandon's cold and distant face gradually cooled down, with a bone-chilling coldness in his eyes and eyebrows.
He put down the wine glass in his hand and raised his icy gaze to Benjamin, "What do you think?"
Benjamin guessed: "I think you like her a little bit. Otherwise, why would you get so angry and throw wine at her when you heard she slept with Carl?"
Brandon sneered: "She just broke up with me and slept with Carl immediately. Am I supposed to like her because of that suddenly? "
As he spoke, the chill in his eyes had already faded away, leaving only indifference towards the person he had taught a lesson to.
Seeing him like this, Benjamin breathed a slight sigh of relief. He knew Brandon had cleanliness issues and couldn't accept women who had been played by himself sleeping around afterwards; it was normal behaviour for him.
Moreover, when Annika returned home from abroad, Brandon broke up with Annie. This was enough to show that Miss Hart was not necessary in Brandon's heart.
Benjamin didn't say anything more. Instead, he finished the drink in his cup before standing up, saying: "Then I'll go back first."
Brandon didn't reply but nodded indifferently.
Benjamin was used to his cold personality since childhood, so he wasn't upset about it. Instead, he picked up his coat directly and then turned around to leave.
It was pouring rain outside, accompanied by strong winds. His assistant held an umbrella over him as they entered the car, driving off towards downtown.
At an intersection, waiting for traffic lights to change colour from red to green light, he saw Annie wearing only one dress, flagging down taxis while being drenched by heavy raindrops all over her body.
Her petite frame lacked flesh on its bones, soaked through rainwater, making her dress cling tightly to her body and appear even more fragile and boneless.
Her seaweed-like curly hair was fine and scattered, sticking to her palm-sized face somewhat disorderly, but it didn't affect her shattered beauty.
Benjamin saw taxi after taxi speeding past her without stopping. He hesitated momentarily before instructing his assistant to drive the car to where she was standing.
Annie used her hand to block the rainwater from falling into her eyes as she vaguely saw a man holding an umbrella walking towards her.
When that umbrella covered their heads, she paused for a moment, then slowly raised her gaze towards him...
In that instant of confusion, she seemed to see Brandon from five years ago...
She remembered that day when it was also pouring rain. She knelt at the nightclub door, begging anyone passing by to buy one night with herself.
Many men came in and out, touching, teasing and mocking her, but no one wanted to buy anything from her except for one man wearing a black coat who looked cold and noble while holding an umbrella and strolling towards where she stood.
When he used his umbrella on top of their heads, shielding them away from all the wind and raindrops, she felt like seeing an angel descending onto the earth.
Facing dim light, she crawled beside him, grabbing his trouser leg and crying, asking him if he could buy just one night with herself.
The man looked down at Annie condescendingly; there was no disdain or ridicule in his eyes, only coldly asked: "Are you clean?"
At that time, blushing red-faced, Annie nodded. Only then did the man extends his long slender hand toward hers.
As soon as she put hers into his broad palm, she knew this would be difficult for herself throughout life ...
"Get in quickly; I'll take you home."
Benjamin opened the car's back door; His warm voice mixed with raindrops fell.
Annie then returned to her senses and saw that the person before her was Benjamin, Brandon's cousin.
She had already broken up with Brandon, so she shouldn't have any connection with anyone surnamed Ross anymore.
But her phone was dead; she couldn't call a car or even hail a taxi. The nearby shops where she could shelter from the rain were also closed.
After hesitating for a moment, she got into his car anyway.
Her whole body was soaked through; even the car's back seat was wet as well.
Annie quickly removed some tissues from her bag and wiped the carpet underfoot while blushing, saying: "I'm sorry I've made your car dirty."
Benjamin saw her humble behaviour and stopped her immediately: "Don't wipe it. It's just a piece of carpet. If it gets dirty, we'll throw it away."
Annie paused slightly while carefully wiping off the carpet before putting away the tissue paper into her bag, then looked at Benjamin awkwardly, whispering: "Thank you."
Benjamin waved his hand casually and asked, "Where do you live?" Annie gave him her address without hesitation. The car quickly started and headed towards her home.
