Chapter 36 How Could I Be Afraid of Him
"Okay."
Annie replied with a cold voice, but the man hung up on her before she could say more.
She couldn't see his expression clearly and could only anxiously pray for him.
"Sir, you heard it too. It's a matter of life and death. Whatever you want to do to me pretending to be Carl is fine, but please change the time. I must meet him tonight and hand over the contract; otherwise he will kill my friend!"
Compared to Annie's anxious face, the man appeared calm and composed.
He asked indifferently, "What contract?"
As it involved Brandon-related matters, Annie naturally wouldn't say much: "It's just a project contract."
The man played with his phone leisurely and said slowly, "If you don't make yourself clear, let Carl explain it himself."
Annie had no choice but to tell him everything from how Carl tried to seduce her to how she escaped from him. However, she didn't mention their plan to kill Carl; instead she downplayed the importance of the contract.
"I have no other choice but lie that I can get hold of a project in West City District just so that I can stall him using this method until my friend finishes getting married smoothly. But he is not easy to deal with; all I can do now is create a fake contract first."
Annie saw him remain silent and became so anxious that tears streamed down her face. "Sir, everything I said is true. Please let me go!"
However, the man remained unmoved and asked inexplicably, "Have you ever slept with Carl?"
"Of course not!" Annie shouted in anger. "How could I sleep with someone who treats women so cruelly like he does?"
Thinking of how Carl sent people to Fiona's wedding chamber made her lose control; she even forgot about disguising herself anymore.
When she thought of this, the man suddenly took out a golden small knife and cut off the white tie on her wrist.
As soon as she was freed from bondage, Annie quickly pulled off his necktie covering his eyesight without turning on any lights inside this room yet again either.
She still couldn't see what he looked like under the mask but didn't care at all; all she wanted was for him to leave immediately.
She had to get rid of him first before dealing with Carl according to their original plan.
"Sir, please leave now! Mr. MacDonald is not easy to deal with. If he sees you here, he will definitely hurt you!"
The man sneered as if hearing a joke: "How could I be afraid of him?"
He stood tall and looked down at Annie while putting both hands in his pockets exuding an arrogant aura without any fear but rather some killing intent hidden within it too which made Annie stunned for a moment feeling that he really resembled Brandon...
When she thought this, the man suddenly sat down on the sofa, playing with the small golden knife, and didn't plan to leave.
Annie's jumbled thoughts quickly disappeared when she saw him acting like this.
When she went to force him to leave, there was a loud knock on the hotel room door with great force!
Hearing the urgent knocking sound, her soft body stiffened instantly.
With pleading eyes, she stared at the man's eyes under the mask and said, "Please go to the bathroom first, okay?"
Her voice carried a crying tone, as if she would cry if he refused.
The man saw her timid appearance and became somewhat impatient, but still got up and went to the bathroom.
After seeing him enter the bathroom, Annie finally relaxed. She quickly turned on the lights and took out the fake contract that she had prepared in advance from her bag before walking towards the door.
As soon as she opened it, Carl rushed in immediately.
"You bitch! How could you..."
"Mr. MacDonald, here is your contract!"
Carl rushed in with his hand raised high intending to slap Annie hard.
After knocking on the door for so long without any response, it was obvious that they were just playing with him!
However, before he could even slap his hand down in frustration, a contract was shoved into it.
As Carl looked over the contract carefully, he couldn't find anything wrong with it and his mood improved considerably.
