Chapter 33 Leaving a Letter Before Dying

Annie wrote two full pages, hastily expressing everything she wanted to say in writing. After finishing, she inserted the bank card into the letter and wrote "To Fiona" on the envelope.
She thought about writing something to Brandon on another piece of paper but didn't know what to say. So ultimately, she only wrote his name and put the folded paper in a drawer.
After leaving, Fiona would come to clean up her belongings and find what Annie had left for her.
Having done all this, Annie took some medicine before completing tonight's mission. She had to keep herself stable or risk failure.
After taking the medicine, she opened a locked drawer in her desk and took out a small jar of sleeping pills she had saved for about ten days. She put them together with a prepared fake contract and a short knife into her bag before booking a hotel room using her phone.
She went ahead of time to decorate the hotel room before sending Carl its address via text message since he previously contacted her through texts instead of WeChat.
[Mr. MacDonald, Emperor Hotel Room 2088 - waiting for you]
Annie thought Carl would come directly after seeing this message but was surprised when he replied with just one question mark: [?]
Seeing this made Annie frown slightly as they agreed that he would receive the contract from her earlier that night. But then he sent another message saying, "Wait for me."
Annie dismissed any doubts by putting down her phone and taking some sleeping pills from their jar, pouring them all into a wine glass along with red wine inside it while holding onto a short knife which she used to crush them bit by bit until they were fine powder particles floating around inside it.
Last time when facing Carl head-on without enough preparation led to failure; therefore, this time, there was no other way to kill him! She did not want to be played by him, nor did she want Fiona to get involved.
After crushing the pills, Annie filled the wine glass with red wine and hid the short knife under a pillow. She then turned off all lights in her room and sat on the sofa, waiting quietly.
About twenty minutes later, someone knocked on her door. Hearing this sound made Annie tremble despite trying hard to remain calm. She was very nervous and scared but had no choice but to follow her plan.
Putting down the wine glass, she walked slowly towards the door before opening it slightly. The man outside wore a golden mask that covered his entire face making Annie feel uneasy at first glance; however, before she could close the door, he broke into her room forcefully.
The man skillfully raised his hand and turned off all lights in her room, leaving only light from outside shining through windows for them both to see each other's positions.
Annie couldn't help trembling as she looked at him standing near the doorway - he wasn't Carl!!! Based on his height and build, he resembled Brandon somewhat; however, there were differences, such as his strong perfume scent compared to Brandon's faint cedarwood fragrance or messy hair instead of Brandon's neat hairstyle. In addition, he wore casual clothes like a white shirt paired with brown cropped pants, which Brandon would never wear while revealing a long tattoo of an aggressive dragon pattern along his collarbone - something impossible for someone like Brandon, who suffered from severe OCD!
Having ruled out that it was not Brandon behind this mask left only one possibility: an imposter pretending to be Carl!!!
