Chapter 37 Carl discovers the problem with the wine
"It seems that you still got some talent," said Carl as he hugged Annie's waist and kissed her on the face. "Tell me, baby, what reward do you want?"
Annie covered her cheek where she was kissed and calmly replied, "Mr. MacDonald, I don't want any reward. Just make your people leave my friend's wedding house."
"No problem."
Carl immediately took out his phone and made a call to order his men to withdraw.
Annie breathed a sigh of relief and turned around to pick up the drugged wine and handed it to Carl.
"Mr. MacDonald, I brought this wine specifically for you. Would you like to have a drink with me?"
"Drink?" Carl raised an eyebrow in surprise at her invitation.
He thought Annie had changed her mind about him but then asked eagerly in her ear: "What? Have you changed your mind? Willing to let me touch you?"
Afraid that Carl would suspect something, Annie maintained her previous attitude and coldly replied: "Mr. MacDonald, what are you thinking? I've already told you that I don't want to sleep with you. That's why I exchanged projects with you. How can your words be so unreliable?"
Upon hearing this, Carl became somewhat unhappy and asked: "Then why did you invite me for a drink?"
Annie frowned slightly and said: "Mr. MacDonald, I invited you for a drink just to thank you since not only did twice let me go without touching me but also trusted me so much; it is only right for me at least offer a toast."
Being praised by Annie like this made Carl feel great about himself.
"Well then if that’s how it is then let’s have a drink together."
Carl reached out his hand taking over the glass from Annie who seemed nervous as she passed it over.
He noticed her fingers were trembling slightly and took a closer look at Annie.
She disguised herself well, but the rapid rise and fall of her chest gave away her nervousness.
"You drink first," Carl handed the glass back to Annie.
Annie quickly realized that Carl must have sensed something wrong with the wine which was why he let her drink it first. She stabilized her pounding heart, pretending nothing was amiss as she took a sip from the glass.
After drinking, she explained: "Mr. MacDonald, I can't afford expensive wine so I had the hotel send over a bottle of low-priced one instead; its taste is not very good. If you don't like it, I'll ask for another bottle."
Annie's explanation made Carl feel less suspicious about the situation and before anyone could answer his call to change wines he decided to try this new flavor out anyway.
Carl licked his lips after taking a small sip from his glass while observing Annie's expression closely. Seeing no signs of anything unusual in her demeanor or behavior put him more at ease and he drank some more without any hesitation.
However, having been around society for so long has taught Carl to be cautious so he only drank one mouthful before putting down his glass again.
Annie didn't expect Carl would be so difficult to deal with now that he refused to finish drinking enough drugged wine for it take effect on him.
If she couldn’t drug him then how else could she get rid of him? To make matters worse there was still someone hiding in the bathroom; if they were caught by him killing someone then they would both be doomed!
Annie felt lost and didn’t know what else she could do when suddenly Carl grabbed hold of her hand pulling her onto his lap while reaching towards Annie’s thigh with disgusting hands saying: “Mr. MacDonald, we had an agreement!”
Annie screamed in fear but Carl replied coldly: "How could I let go of a woman that I have my eyes on so easily?!"
